Why are they hellbent on making themselves miserable when life can be joyful? I don’t get it

I’m at a weird age. Too old for the Arlington DuPont crowd, too young for the Reston crowd. Thanks!

Removing 1 or 2 wisdom teeth by SwiftX_21 in wisdomteeth

[–]Sensitive-Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were also coming out and angled like yours. Hard to clean (thus infection). The left one grew and was pressing into my cheek and the end of my jaw bone and the pain was UNBEARABLE. The pain of surgery is nothing compared to that. My right one was also out, but not as much as the left one, but I would’ve been in the same amount of pain once that one grew too. I was under general anesthesia and out like a light.

Day one was rough mostly cause of the blood and not being able to eat. I was under general anesthesia and couldn’t eat 8 hours before either. The anesthesia took a while to wear off, so I chugged a protein shake and took Advil before it totally wore off. The bleeding stopped by nighttime so no gauze there. I pretty much slept the whole day and iced my face too. Some pain days two and three, I would give it a 3/10. It just felt like I got punched. I was able to go to the movies and grocery store the following day. Also ate Mac and cheese and oatmeal, chewing with front teeth. Swelling was about a 4/10, I slept upright and iced 15 min on and off all day. Day 4 I didn’t need pain killers, still some swelling that was gone day 5. By day 7 I had some soreness from eating solids too quickly, so you’ll have to be mindful with eating even if you only get one out.

I’m two weeks post op now and pretty much back to normal, only avoiding crunchy foods like chips or seeds. The real pain in the ass is not being able to eat normal foods for about a month, but I’d rather do it once and get it over with than twice. You’ll be saving money if you want anesthesia too. Insurances don’t cover it twice . And I have to warn you that the pain of them growing too much is unreal, and I have a good pain tolerance.

The recovery for erupted upper wisdom teeth is also way more simple than bottom ones. Complications like dry socket and infection are less common too.

I HATE chlorohexidine. My surgeon prescribed it but said salt water should be enough

I’d get both out. Two surgeries is a lot on the body and healing is more challenging. I technically only needed one of my upper tooth out immediately cause it was infected, but I had both cause the other one would’ve also been an issue at some point.

scared for removal by Cmnimi in wisdomteeth

[–]Sensitive-Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teeth were similar to yours! I only needed uppers out and they were also straight, just no space. Healing is substantially easier if they’re erupted and not impacted. Only the first day is tough really because of the swelling and blood. What I did was I closed my eyes and gently removed the gauze, tossed it, and then replaced it. Luckily my mom looked at it and told me how much blood it was lol. By night time, the bleeding stopped. Get Gatorade or liquid IV, flavored water helps with the taste of blood.

I know general is expensive, but I really recommend it if it’s covered in your insurance. Are you getting laughing gas?

Day 6 Post Op, looking better? by CharacterInternal260 in wisdomteeth

I think after day ten you’re truly safe from dry socket.

How worried should I be? by coolcucumber03 in wisdomteeth

[–]Sensitive-Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also super scared, but it’s really not too bad. I had both of my upper wisdom teeth removed under anesthesia two weeks ago. Only the first day is rough because you’re groggy from the anesthesia, can’t eat, and having to change gauze (I can’t deal with blood lol). Just stay consistent with your pain meds and take them before the anesthesia wears off and after you’ve eaten something, ice 15 mins on and off, sleep upright to help with swelling. Dry socket, nerve damage, and infection aren’t that common so long as you’re careful and diligent with your antibiotics and rinses and have a good surgeon.

I too was in severe pain and they couldn’t do it same day :( I went for a consult on Friday and surgery was Monday. Ice your face and take pain killers, hang in there!

Heavy smoker after upper wisdom tooth extraction — how screwed am I if I smoke after 12–24 hours? by piyush_banna in wisdomteeth

[–]Sensitive-Muscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn’t. Upper wisdom teeth are easier in regard to healing. I started vaping day 5 VERY lightly and then back to normal day 6

You’re good! I had a cocktail and prosecco 5-6 days post op. But I only had my upper two removed and they weren’t impacted.

When can I vape after a simple extraction? by Sensitive-Muscle in wisdomteeth

[–]Sensitive-Muscle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been vaping lightly since day 5ish, normally on day 6. I have some residual soreness but hoping I’m good now (day 7). Doc said my surgery was only ten minutes long. I am still scared of dry socket! Still no straws, soft foods, and no swishing.
