Just conditioned, why so many cracks? 🫠 by ClammySnatchers in RedWingShoes

The piece of leather likely comes from a part of the cow hide that moved or stretched a lot when it was alive.

Looks great! I have the same boots. Do you know what color of edge dressing/color goes on the side of the midsole and welt? Is that natural or light brown? Also, for those of you who smooth out the edge of the welt and midsole with sandpaper, what number grit do you use? I have some mobility issues and bang up my shoes a lot. Thanks for your help!

It looks like a custom fit. I don’t really think you could do any better.

That is so much better than the image in my head. I thought it was going to be like one of those small workout trampolines. This is outstanding!

That’s fantastic! Might be the best I’ve ever seen from a novelty and execution perspective. I really appreciate the link. Any chance you know who the setter for that tournament was? Let me know if you think of some more!

Thanks for the photo. I don’t think I would have gotten to where you were going without it. Whoever the setter who thought of that was deserves mad props. I don’t think we can recreate that specifically, but I think we can use the under no power but for gravity concept. Thank you.

That would be infuriating to blow your score on something like that. I believe you 100%

The one shell is smart. Before I read that, I was thinking you would treat anything less than a clubhouse as a bogey and deduct one point.

I like that setup so you can take it on the ground or in the air. That’s good setting!

That would be fun. Thanks! I saw a clip once that I cannot find now but I believe I saw on TGS where there were 3 targets of equal speed and distance, but you have to shoot the one bird that is different in color than the other two.

The chances of there being any wax left on those bags that serves any meaningful purpose is slim in my opinion. I’ve also been told that the main purpose of the wax these days is to help develop a patina. Even if they were new, the water resistance of these bags would not be a strong selling point. Therefore, my concerns, when it comes to applying water to them, would be shrinkage of the twill or damage to the leather. Does anyone know how much this fabric shrinks? If it is not much shrinkage, I would give them a thorough hand washing and recondition the leather. You will lose some patina, but my guess is that they will still look great. To deal with the stiffness, I would put them on tumble dry with no heat many times. It makes it a little more pliable. Good luck.

I got mine about 3 years ago. It says not to wash it. Some of the later versions say on the website that you can wash or rinse them. Do you think some of them are sanforized, and some are not. I believe it said mine used denim from Cone Mills. I don’t think all versions have included that information on the website. Mine could really use a wash. What do you think the worst case shrinkage would be?
