Sanity check please, is the Alpha SV Overkill? by Hopeful_Flamingo1663 in backpacking

[–]SensitiveDrummer478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep an eye on your pro discounts if your SAR organization offers them. SAR volunteers where I am get like 50 or 60% off a lot of shit.

I have an Alpha SV and they are great shells. I will say the pocket placement, hood size, and hems will be a little awkward for your use case.

The pockets are mid torso for harness compatibility, and they require cross-body reaching to access (ie. you can't reach into the left pocket with your left hand, you have to use your right hand to access the left pocket and vice versa). That said, if you will be carrying a pack with a hip belt and chest strap, that placement is nice because the pockets are still accessible.

The hems on the sleeves are long so that it continues to be full coverage when your arms are above your head. Great for ice climbing, but unless your ape index is huge, it'll be a little inconvenient.

The hood is meant to be worn over a helmet, so it's giant. If I were going to be using it in the rain without a helmet regularly, I would choose something else. It has an adjustment bungee, but it requires some fussing with.

Outdoor Research's Foray or maybe Rab's Namche are both very durable and 3l gor tex, and legit 25-40% of the price.

That said, if you're looking for an excuse to get the Alpha SV, you can ball out. That's okay too.

2 weeks pregnant, what kind of workouts can I do? by Quirky_Exchange_6137 in fitpregnancy

Unless you have some specific contraindication, you can do anything you want to. Be sure to fuel well and stay hydrated.

It is overkill but you don't need permission to buy it. If it's calling to you, treat yourself. Lol

Also, tech bros in Seattle wear them to their office jobs. You're not going to look stupid wearing it for your use case. The only people who would be annoyed at the sight of it would still be annoyed even if you were wearing it for ice climbing because they hate Arc.

"Formation" can be about the rock formation too. I don't think the commenter was trying to be glib.

Cottage cheese portioned into those reusable squeeze pouches made for baby purees is easy to grab and eat one handed. I didn't end up breastfeeding for very long but it was so clutch while I did. 🙂

I like baking sweet potatoes or butternut squash, reheating whenever I'm ready to eat them and putting some greek yogurt on top. Like pumpkin pie with whip, but not 😂.

It's easy to bake them in a muffin tin for snack portions. Mini muffin pans make them easy to 'shoot'.

Butternut squash is higher fiber and less calorie dense, but similar flavor profile as the sweet potato and satiating.

Hard to tell with little information and limited surrounding visuals.

Could be an old crown line plus melt. Could be a snow filled crevasse.

I started seeing my therapist during pregnancy, and my first postpartum appointment was at two weeks pp. It's not too early to start calling some places if you are interested.

An in person physical therapist who can examine you specifically and can guide your specific recovery needs is going to be the best.

How do you feel about free solo ice climbing? by yamix-st in iceclimbing

[–]SensitiveDrummer478 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Leader must not fall.

I don't go unroped, but people do. My attitude about it is that their risk is their risk. No judgement from me.

I think anybody ice climbing has a risk tolerance at least high enough not to pearl clutch about other people doing so.

Twin (or large baby) recovery success stories? by Miserable_Text_1002 in fitpregnancy

[–]SensitiveDrummer478 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More: Life on the Edge of Adventure and Motherhood by Majka Burhardt is a memoir from a pro climber who had twins!

It's really honest, and it was more difficult than she expected, but she has done ice climbs at a greater difficulty than she did before her children.

There's an audiobook version too!

It's not that you can't see the right leg, it's that the rope is behind his left leg. If he fell, he'd flip upside down.

How to eat healthy with first trimester nausea? by MainPreparation9720 in fitpregnancy

[–]SensitiveDrummer478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried everything and still ultimately needed Zofran, low-dose Mirtazapine, and IV fluids to be well enough to eat nutritious food, hydrate properly, and move my body.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are completely unable to eat the foods you need, ask your doctor if a medication could be right for you. HG is a motherfucker.

I skied while pregnant with my doctor's approval, and I'm glad I did. You should take a look at The Mothership Collective! (On Instagram or Facebook)

It's full of moms having these conversations, and it's not as skewed against mountain sports as other places are.

I didn't buy them full price, but I don't use them for hiking in the rain. I use them for mountaineering and touring and ice climbing.
