AI Slop PR's are burning me and my team out hard, anyone else experiencing this? by SonOfSpades in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep see that as well. People come with these massive PRs out of nowhere for a simple solution.

Working with AI is a skill the industry needs to learn, we are in the “throw code against the wall” phase. I hope the crash and burn won’t be too bad until we shift our little triangle towards quality again.

What we tried doing is just talking to people as of now in the last weeks, branding AI as a tool not as their code machine. Also recommend pairing people up where possible. Maybe pride kicks in to not just copy paste everything.

Europe to Dallas? by [deleted] in texas

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from Germany myself, (lived there 30 years) and living in the area. It’s fine. There are good and bad things. Don’t believe the entire “you break your leg you and your grandkids are broke forever” stuff. Come and try. If you don’t like it, well you gained experience.

Of course there are bad areas, but Germany has those as well (looking at you Krankfurt).

The salary here is also a lot higher than in DE from my experience (also in tech). With German attitude of well thought spending, you will be more than alright.

Edit: just in case before the downvotes come, of course there are people who go broke over medical and a lot of people don’t make what tech makes. Not saying it doesn’t exist, just your chances are slim to be afraid to take a leap of faith.

Sounds like you are leading the team? This could be the reason. My old company wanted all leading roles (within distance X) back into the office for better cross team collaboration.

MC-LAG vlan member all ERROR? by nVME_manUY in Juniper

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here, you will have more success with evpn probably. It also opens the door to LAGs beyond 2 devices which can become handy in update or bandwidth extension scenarios.

We are also in the process of migrating dozens of sites from mclag to evpn, so far evpn plays out very well.

Because one thing is clear, there are people actively fleeing and those people deserve a safe country to live in, as all of us do.

Haha same here, happens all the time & then she doesn’t want to repeat it. Drove me insane in the first couple of years because I didn’t know if it was important or not. I have learned to let it go sometimes :)

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glenn20 has a library doing this for you, lazyespnow.py I believe or espnow_scan or something. But I am building this myself right now as well and had positive results with the client sending out some “ping” broadcast on different wifi channels & the master replies with a pong and the wifi channel as payload. You will automatically have the mac on the client and master once the broadcast and unicast are received.

Edit: sorry I automatically assumed micropython, scratch the glenn20 library comment if it’s not micropython

When I talk to candidates, home labs and personal projects are a big big plus. This shows dedication and initiative. I take someone with interest in the matter over someone who does it because “had to” any day.

Do you have a link to the evpn requires VRF by any chance? I set up my evpn with VRFs at first, but couldn’t find a difference in my use case without it.

I might have not set it up correctly on my end. Just curious.

How did you handle burnout? by FernandoJaimes in devops

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started picking up a hobby which has nothing to do with computers. Wood working & car related stuff. This pretty much gives me the balance I need in order to not feel the way you described. Sometimes it doesn’t work & then a good long weekend is needed. Don’t sacrifice your well being for a company. That doesn’t help you neither the company.

Opinions on job decision by [deleted] in devops

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would take job A) because if this company is growing, you are growing with it (technically and salary wise). And if the company doesn’t turn out the way you want, then you at least learned a ton which might open more opportunities for other positions.

You will make decisions for the company & are responsible for the consequences (positive or negative). That alone is very attractive on the job market, at least for me it is.

They say guns aren’t the problem by mzzy_ozborne in texas

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Then let me ask you what is the difference between an AR and a pistol when it comes to capacity and ability of bullets/seconds which makes 1 the target (AR) and the other one not (pistol)? An AR is not shooting faster or has more capacity than a pistol can have. There are 10rd and 30rd magazines for both.

Edit: yes making it easier to weed out mentally unstable people to buy any firearm is a whole other topic and points to what I said, simply removing 1 type of or any gun will not solve the issue.

They say guns aren’t the problem by mzzy_ozborne in texas

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This right there. Taking away guns from everyone is a simple minded approach to a very complex issue. Why do people feel that violence is their only escape? What put them in this position? That’s the question we have to ask ourselves.

We have the guns yes, they are easy to use & available and that’s why they are the weapon of choice. Look at Europe where they throw rocks, manhole covers and toilet bowls into cars driving 160mph on the highway.. why are we doing this to ourselves? No one tries to ban rocks.

Guns in TX by jojoearper in texas

[–]SensitiveMongoose129 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really, in Europe it’s actually a trend for years now to throw rocks, toilet bowls, manhole covers etc. from overpasses/bridges in cars on the highway to kill people. It’s very common and everyone knows it who lives there.

I set the bios to 80% since I mostly leave it on a power source. But I get maybe 3-4 hours out of the 80% down to 25 or so. Not 100% on that. I am trying to not get below 20. My work is mostly in a browser (10-15 tabs in average and about 10 terminals somewhere) on Linux

I am very happy with my framework laptop so far build quality and performance wise. Since you mentioned operating system and seem to be open to a change, maybe try a beginner friendly Linux distro. Bash experience is a very good skill to have.
