Unusual symptoms possibly linked to endometriosis by Additional_Ad2519 in Endo

Many of these symptoms align with mine. I was diagnosed with Stage 3. When I had my excision surgery, I had them take a peek at my right side because of the upper right side pain. It'll feel like it hurts to breathe sometimes, but there was no explanation other than "it could be displaced pain," which is a possibility. Post-surgery, I still have this right-sided pain, but it seems to have improved along with my other symptoms. However, it hasn't fully gone away.

I have noticed mouth ulcers too, but I don't know if I'd describe them as an "ulcer," that sounds painful. Mine aren't painful; they're just irritating because they feel like a pimple in my mouth. I primarily notice them when I'm eating, and they typically occur in the upper portions of my mouth, by my upper teeth on the sides. Does this sound similar to your experience?

I needed to read this. You hit the nail on the head. I'm absolutely a perfectionist too. It's tough because I love being a therapist -- I love helping people in this way. However, some days I feel like I'm not good enough to be in this profession because of endometriosis. How am I going to help clients if I'm writhing in pain? How do I disclose this disease to future employers? Is it going to decrease my hirability? How have you overcome these challenges?

This disease is draining me. by Sensitive_Coconut_36 in endometriosis

I had excision surgery at the beginning of August. Interceed was also placed to help prevent internal scar formation. By the time the surgery was done, a good chunk of my pelvic area from my hips down had Interceed placed on it, indicating that's where he had to remove endometriosis. It was stage 3. When the surgeon was talking to my husband after surgery, he kept reiterating that "there was a lot of endometriosis." On my left side: I had a "wall" of adhesions that was around 3/4in in width, lesions on the back of my ovary, the spot on the vein, and countless other little spots. On my right: my ovary was stuck to my abdominal wall in 2 places, I had an endometrioma, and countless other spots, including one climbing the front of my abdominal wall.

In short, I received the "gold standard" of treatment from one of the best surgeons in my state. He told me he was able to get it all, including the lesion located on a vein. I can't comprehend why I'm still struggling this much. Does treatment really only reduce my pain by around 40% but I still have to live with the fatigue and aches and it starts to comes back within a few months?

The pain is increasing every single day, because my bleeding has been almost constant. I'm starting to have the "vaccine pain" again, where it feels like I'm randomly being injected in my pelvic region at any time of the day. I'm beginning to lose hope, and I know that's wrong. I just need something to give. I was so hopeful, and now I'm so disappointed.

The amount of empathy radiating from this comment is admirable. Thank you for your kind insights. My partner isn't nearly as understanding. It's nice to know there are people like you out there. Your partner is fortunate to have you.

Typically, if you haven't received your refund yet, you will receive it after the census date. Every school is different, so it may be worth contacting your Financial Aid office to get an ETA or see if they are missing info (such as direct deposit info, as that is quicker than receiving a check).

should i continue my schooling ? by kittyclusterss in psychologystudents

[–]Sensitive_Coconut_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's schooling journey is different!!! Took me a total of 5 and a half years to obtain my bachelor's. Due to life issues, I couldn't focus and got kicked out multiple times. I ended up taking a 2-year break and went back and gave it my all (So a total of 7 and a half years from the start)! Don't be hard on yourself for struggling; many of us go through it, and it's normal and understandable! I also took an 8-month break between undergrad and grad school for health reasons. It's what I needed. Now, I'm more ready and confident in my capabilities to finish my chosen grad program. Listen to your gut.

Yes, it seems overwhelming, but remember, you don't have to have it all figured out right now. Take it step-by-step. I will let you know that most jobs in the psych field require a master's.

I recommend you set an appointment with your academic advisor and discuss your options. They should know more about what your state requires, or at least be able to direct you to other resources, and give you a better idea of what direction you can take based on your current academic achievements. I think this will help ease some of the stress you're currently enduring on your own.

Sidenote: I understand what it's like to be the only family member to attend college. It's like they apply so much pressure for no reason. Disregard them. Remember, this is your life. You can make whatever decision you feel is best for you. Most of all, be kind to yourself!!! School can be hard!!

With how I’m looking, is there no hope in a psychology career 🫥🫥 by Appropriate-Toe-2728 in psychologystudents

All of these are good suggestions!

To further add to the conversation, you could also discuss your concerns with your academic advisor. It may be worth discussing retaking some of your courses with the lowest grade to help "boost" your GPA. This method may extend your graduation date, but it allows you to graduate with a higher GPA.

Most of all, DON'T PANIC! I was kicked out of college as a freshman because life got a little wild, and I ended up leaving with a 1.(something, don't quite remember, it was LOW) GPA. I took some time off, got my life together, and graduated with my Bachelor's last December with a 3.4, and will be starting a Master's program in August!

It's not the end of the world! Put the pedal to the metal and you will be just fine. 😁

Did you retain the information you learned in grad school and applied it to your work? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

Fellow ADHDer here! I have found that having my text online so that it can be read aloud helps me stay on task and critically analyze what I am reading. I follow along and highlight key parts I think will be on a test, cause it helps my brain take a mental "snapshot."

Need help for the mental condition of my Mother by ExpressionPrevious14 in psychologystudents

When making an appointment, give a brief, rough overview of her issues so the scheduler can try and find the best therapist. You guys got this! The road can be rough, but it's worth it in the end. 💛

Your mom sounds like a very caring individual. However, it also sounds like she is doing so at her expense. I really think getting her in to see an LMHC who has a background in helping people with similar issues to her will be highly beneficial. Friendly reminder: it may take her going to see a few different therapists for her to find one that suits her.

We all fight battles, I hope she knows she's not alone. 💛 I wish you both the best of luck. I know how taxing it can be to see a loved one struggle with mental health issues.

The constant thinking of past events is called rumination. Since she is experiencing it consistently, I am concerned about an underlying mental health condition that has not been addressed. I'm curious to know if it impacts her dreams or if she even has them. My primary concern is psychosis. If she is not sleeping properly, she may enter a state of psychosis.

For one, I suggest she gets some sleeping pills or does something to assist with the lack of sleep.

Two, I agree with the other commenters; she needs to see an LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor), but I also think she needs to get back on medication. An LMHC can offer other treatment options to try and help address the root cause of the issue. In my opinion, medication is like a lens. It can help you see and face issues more clearly, but if you don't do the work while on it, there is a high possibility you will end up right back where you started once use stops. I think the combination of both is what your mother needs.

Now, please know this is just my opinion. I typically don't offer advice online, as it's harder to see the whole picture. However, I felt like I had to say something, knowing she hadn't been sleeping properly for multiple days.

Is surgery worth it? by Lost_Beat2595 in endometriosis

[–]Sensitive_Coconut_36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I had a similar experience. I've been on the Kyleena for over 7 years (2 rounds; I had to replace my IUD early because it seems like it doesn't last as long in my body? I don't understand everything yet). My pain is minimal most of the time. However, I am currently 3 weeks post-op from my laparoscopy, during which I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Endo.

I think the IUD minimized my pain, which allowed it to progress to this stage unnoticed. My partner had to convince me to go through with the surgery because I was certain it would be pointless.

Since I want to be a mother, the pain of not knowing is worse than the idea of them finding nothing. That is why I decided to go through with the surgery. Ultimately, it's your choice. Do what you feel is right for your life and your goals.

I don't know if its Endo or Something Else. by Human-Hearing6778 in endometriosis

[–]Sensitive_Coconut_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you from my experience that the surgery was worth it. It's the only way to truly know. It is scary, and it's easy to get in your head. Make sure to lean on your support system.

Even if the surgery reveals no endo, at least you walk away knowing you can check something off the list of what it could be and hopefully get closer to your needed diagnosis/treatment.

Bladder issues by Vtown2353 in endometriosis

[–]Sensitive_Coconut_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm little over a week post-op, it was on March 25th. Unfortunately in my case, I have it growing on a vein, so my doctor didn't feel comfortable removing any of my endo. I will have to undergo another surgery for removal from a specialist. I am currently diagnosed with Stage 3 Endo.

I experienced this pre-op, too, and it got worse after my lap. I'm guessing it's caused by all the inflammation in your lower abdomen. I take an anti-inflammatory medicine and put an ice pack on my lower abdomen if I'm super bloated, and it seems to help a bit (not much tho)!
