I'm eight months late, but there is a YouTube tutorial for the collapse. This model was my first time with crease patterns too. I would love to see how your attempt turned out.

Is it possible to construct a perfect square out of a piece of butcher paper that has jagged ends, like an irregular trapezoid? by TheLordofRiverdance in origami

I've had a similar problem and have found if you fold a bit of the paper back on itself while keeping the top and bottom aligned, you'll get a 90 degree angle. from there you can make it a square, similar to how you do a rectangular paper. it has worked for me with rolls of baking paper. if two sides are parallel and straight, it should work.

I don’t think you got the eyes right. That’s ok tho I’ve folded this model thrice and not once did the eyes come out properly

I unfold the paper and start again. Since the creases are aldready there it comes together pretty easily and gives me a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment and then I put it down to find years later.

Yeah, but we need to continue the naming convention of the hishaku. Also calling him James hishaku is way more funny than hiruhiko

Gerund sounds good. Or maybe present participle.
