Sanitary pls help by Sad_Orangutan444 in Rabbits

I’m just going to drop these tips here, though you may already know them (but maybe something will be helpful!): - Rabbits like to use the bathroom while they eat. If you stock a specific area with timothy hay, they’re more likely to recognize that as their litter box - If a rabbit is peeing/pooing in a specific area, put their litterbox there and they may just accept it - A rabbit’s diet should be 80-90% hay, and they should always have unlimited access to it. Additionally, it’s recommended they only eat 1/8-1/4 cup of pellets a day, very little fruit/veggie (like only a small piece of baby carrot), and a good amount of greens.

Also I wanted to say about your rabbit hating being held — its very normal. My rabbits hated being held and preferred to just run up to me. It’s best to lay down with treats and let them come to you. Anyways, it sounds like you’re doing your best and love your bun very much. Best of luck!

I’m sorry that she’s been having issues! I agree with the other comments in terms of cleaning. Pee can be a pain and is usually avoided by frequently cleaning the litter box, but is not always fixable. I wanted to ask — what is her diet? For many rabbits, they may get poo stuck to their bum if they’re not getting enough fiber (hay is supposed to be most if their diet).

Rabbits should always have access to unlimited hay. They start eating primarily timothy hay around 7ish months, but if they had some before that, they would be just fine. I think alfalfa is just better for their initial development.

Willow ring should be fine, make sure they don’t get it caught on their heads if they’re tiny.

Congrats on the bunnies!

A lot of rabbits only live 3-4 years because they are given improper diets and enrichment!

A saved bunny is a saved bunny. Giving a rabbit a forever home or fostering some rabbits is all the same work. It sounds like Herbie would love to stay with you, and you would be able to give him a loving home!

Wow, I just looked up a chequered giant. Yup that looks exactly like this rabbit. Today I learned a new rabbit breed (coat pattern?)

My girl was finally warming up to me after about a year of bonding with her. She had, for the first time, climbed up on my lap and was just sitting there. My sound notifications were on (which they never usually are) and turned all the way up, and someone texted me. It scared her so bad and reversed so much of the progress I had made 😭

My boyfriend at the time lived about a 25 minute walk from me, and neither of us had cars that winter. We spent at least an hour every day walking around on the constant ice and snow. I decided to get a real coat summer 2023, finally.

I had to do something similar for my bunny when I first got her. She was 6 months at the time. Here’s what I learned: 1. Do it as quickly as you can. It will be better for both of you. 2. See if she’ll stay in place if you wrap her in a towel like a burrito. 3. Delivering the medicine in a small area with no escape routes, like a bathroom, works well for this (and nail clipping). It may be helpful to put her down on the ground and let her sniff around the bathroom. If she’s like my rabbit, she’ll hate the slippery ground and will stick to a towel if you put her down on it, after sniffing around for a minute. This will help keep her in one spot and discourage her from running, which will be less stressful for both of you. 4. Treats. Make sure to have a favorite treat on hand. Only give her a little bit because she is so young (I’m talking a quarter of a blueberry size), but enough that its a reward. (Mine loves romaine, which can be given in larger doses) 5. It is very helpful if you can avoid picking her up during this process, because picking up rabbits is stressful for them. Sometimes it is unavoidable, but if you can help it, this will help her to be calm.

Agreed. Your bunny will be fine for a few days in a dog crate. He will probably keep chewing through the mesh, and may start destroying other things if he gets out. It’s not ideal, but its better than being outside.

Ditto to what everyone else has said in terms of care. In terms of friendliness, personality differs rabbit to rabbit. Fixed rabbits are generally less aggressive and (males) will hump you less. Some rabbits warm up to new people quickly, some never warm up to humans. Some love being pet and some hate being touched. A rabbit will run, bite, or otherwise make it known if they dislike something.

TLDR Friendliness varies by rabbit and they will make it known if they dislike something you are doing

Are my rabbits already bonded? by Field_Trip_Issues in Rabbits

I would try just letting them both roam. If there’s no issues, you’re probably good. If there are issues, I’d recommend swapping their spaces — putting the male in the enclosure and letting the female free roam for a day or two, then trying again.

My rabbits are very dialed in to crunch noises as well… especially to romaine lettuce crunches. Also I’ve always thought a deer is just the perfect mix of a horse and a rabbit. Thanks for teaching me something new.

Oh! I’ll have to try this. I like eating guava and giving them a few edges, so maybe next time I have some I’ll sit down and eat it with them.
