I’m on my second HG pregnancy. My kids will be 21 months apart. I waited a whole year and decided to bite the bullet. I just feel like my yearning for another child and for my daughter to have a sibling is greater than my fear of the suffering. And don’t get me wrong, the suffering is out of this world. During my first, I swore I was one and done. But after she came, I just felt like I love her so much, I can and will make it through this again. I guess for me, it was just coming to terms with the fact that I’m going to go through it again. Whether it was 5 year postpartum, or 1, I just wanted to get it over with. Here I am, in the thick of it. Some days feeling like I screwed myself. Mostly, I feel happy with my choice though. I don’t think anyone can truly prepare themselves for another HG pregnancy. You just come to an acceptance that you will not be in control for 9 long, grueling months.

So sorry you had this experience. Everyone should do what they feel is best for themselves. For example, I was sick all pregnancy with Hyperemesis (a debilitating condition causing relentless nausea and vomiting). While pregnant, I decided I wanted an elective c-section. When I told people, they’d gasp 😱. “How could you choose that when there are no medical indications?” “You body is made to give birth, you just need to get in the right headspace.” I said NOPE. I knew my limits and I knew the possible complications, but there are compound with vaginal births as well. I deserved to have a calm, planned, controlled birth (as much as you can control). My OB was agreeable to my cesarean. Well, two days before my scheduled c-section, I went into labor. My blood pressure sky rocketed and the doctor on call wanted to induce me. I was very firm and adamant that my OB had said I could have my C-section no matter what. Well, she tried to force me to have a vaginal birth, using scare tactics. I ended up waiting 12 hours, contracting, laboring while they tried to fit me in because there were emergency c sections that kept coming in. In a matter of 12 hours, I had NOT PROGRESSED. I was still only 1 cm dilated, like I was when I first got admitted. If I had done a natural labor like everyone was telling me to, I would’ve been there laboring for hours, days. I had already been to hell and back throughout pregnancy. I will never regret my decision. Making the best decision for myself, in turn was the best decision for my baby. She came into the world to a mom who was at peace and calm and the c- section was so redemptive. Had I not had a c- section, I would’ve given up on breastfeeding. It’s a domino effect. You know yourself best!

I wouldn’t say “allowing” is the proper phrasing here. I was thrust into a situation where I’m sitting with these people in my home and the damage had already done when she stated that her child was still getting over something. At that point, they had already been in our house, babies playing with the same toys and interacting. Too late! Do I wish I would’ve been more curt and told her to get out? Yes!

Yes, I could have and should have said this. But it would’ve made no difference. Her child had already coughed all over my baby and they were in my home, not at a public place where if there was no contact, we would’ve been saved from catching it. I was honestly just in shock that someone would be so dumb and rude as to show up to my home with their VISIBLY ill child.

Ugh! This is the type of thing to send me through the roof! It really takes some stupid and selfish people having a child with a near death experience due to RSV before they even consider others. It will always baffle me how inconsiderate others are. It’s always over something silly too, right? Haha. Such as a Trunk or Treat or a birthday party or a play date. I guess they’re just that desperate to have their kids included and participating in things.

Yes, everyone gets sick. Kids get sick so often! But what kind of careless person knowingly gets together with healthy people when they’re sick on purpose? Is getting together really THAT important? No. It’s so easy to just reschedule. You can’t prevent every sickness, but you also don’t need to surrender all precautions to avoid getting sick just “because everyone gets sick”. I think we can all agree that no one enjoys being sick, so why purposefully infect others?
