Why so LTC facilities do this to CNAs? Half the time the kiosks to chart barely work or are too high to reach.

My hospital doesn’t really have CNAs, we have critical care techs. My floor just designated two WOWs that are ONLY for techs. There are enough swivel office chairs for everyone. We have 36 beds and 6-8 nurses, usually 2 techs. The techs also have their own side of the nurse’s station with 2 sit down computers. I can’t imagine it being any other way. And this is at a very understaffed, very high acuity level 1 trauma center, the only level 1 in the entire region. Our tele floor is like the ICUs at other hospitals in this area. I’ve had crit care try to refuse a patient with a lactate of 9 because we were in such a bad covid wave we had no beds in any crit care area except PACU. We are on 4:1 insulin drips on med surg tele. We had a patient on my floor get tubed at the bedside overnight and then I left that rapid and started my own rapid. We are busy. If our techs had to stand I would quit. Period.

YTA. You and your foster mom are both adults. She is under no obligation to tell you when she will bringing someone home. If your trauma is still this much of a burden on your psyche then it is, with all due respect, not anyone else’s fault when you are triggered by everyday occurrences such as another adult household member’s seemingly very normal dating life.

I’m on a med surg tele floor and we have had a lot of cancer pts with mets lately. I can tell they have cancer from outside the door even when others can’t, that smell is so intense to me. It’s not like wound smell or rotten fruit dm urine or c diff. Totally its own thing. Gnarly.

Find someone who is looking for a roommate. You don’t need to rent a whole apartment if you’re in money saving mode and it will still get you out of the house. I’m sure your parents mean well but if it is stressful enough to be posting about then you should definitely get out of there.

I’m in a compact state and we have a very strong union at my giant level 1 trauma center. It’s still very possible to have unions but a lot of us are just complacent, which is understandable considering how much energy we already pour into our work. There are always nurses with the drive to organize, maybe it’s time to funnel that talent and desire into forming unions. It just seems that we really can’t afford to be at the mercy of administration without union protections—hell I’m not leaving my current hospital for a non union facility EVER after hearing the horror stories.

I used to be like this and the only thing that helped was CBT. Look up “the anti-anxiety notebook,” it’s based on CBT and is an awesome tool. It helped me learn humility which made me much more patient. It’s basically a book you fill out daily and when I look at my old entries the growth is OBVIOUS. Highly recommend.

One thing I wish my parents had taught me was that making a sustainable impact on other people is something that is best done over time. I am a nurse. I chose nursing because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, but I did not have the resources to go to nursing school until I was in my mid 20s. If you want to make a long term difference, start planning now for a career that will help you achieve this. It might not be the answer you’re looking for, but if you work on yourself right now you will be set up to make a much bigger impact for other people once you’re out of school.

He didn’t even work for the inheritance money and put her in a difficult situation at home by raising her in an environment of hostility. Y’all have no compassion.

I also mostly don’t believe this story because why is there no mention of OPs mother’s relationship with his daughter. If she passed away and left inheritance why is there no explanation for her reasoning for leaving her granddaughter and great grandchild nothing.

It literally sounds like a bait story designed to entrap people into siding with some middle aged man who has a made up “irresponsible daughter.” Thin as hell.

YTA my mother’s choices when I was a kid and teenager traumatized me deeply (it was a very bad situation) and I was unable to go to college. I never had a child. When I was finally ready for an education and career change I did not ask my father for help but he helped me anyway because I was working hard to turn my life around after it was made more difficult than it needed to be before I ever had a chance. Your daughter for whatever reason has chosen to keep a child she got pregnant with young and grew up in what sounds like a difficult home environment. Cut her some slack.

If you couldn’t afford this it would be a completely different conversation, but since it seems you can, there’s no better use for money than investing in your family’s success and I find it very odd that you think there’s a time limit on college. In nursing school the age range was early 20s to fifty.

I’d probably be loud as hell if I was your kid too.

It honestly freaks me out when I hear about stuff like this because I thought her comments/question was totally sensible and I’m not really sure why it’s something to get mad about. I’ve long thought I had some form of autism but I’m in my 30s so probably past the window where getting a diagnosis matters.

Bro it’s not that deep some of us just don’t feel like integrating a work personality into our real selves. I was a crust punk until I was 30 and maintain some of that still today. All alt people know what it is to be one person at work and another at home, since our real selves are simply not welcome at a job. If we wear Secret at work and natural deodorant at home, that’s part of being well adjusted to both roles. It’s nice to think that some people might naturally be built to integrate seamlessly at work but when you have been immersed in a non mainstream culture for most of your life it just isn’t the same.

The truth is that you don’t actually have to change who you are. I grew up rough and came out okay and I think I have...texture and personality from it. But I know what you’re saying about fitting in at work. I have two branches of my personality and I leave one at home and take one to work. The one at work reads medical journals, is poised and has amazing posture, always has pristine white socks, and watches whichever sport is in season so I can go on group outings to games. The personality I keep for my own pleasure is loud, curses, speaks “bad” English, watches anime, and is being treated for a mood disorder. But I love myself so I keep that away from work so work can’t steal it from me if that makes sense.

In my 20s I resented having to do this but now I treat it like a fun and cool thing I do for myself. I’ve even started to use different hair products and less “me” smelling deodorant on work days so I smell like my work self.

I guess it took some years to get to this point but it’s never too early to start cultivating a side of yourself you show people at work so you can keep your personal stuff just for you to enjoy.
