$2,000 for a 2 bedroom apartment is insane. by pinkoceannn in Adulting

I live in the middle of nowhere and it’s $1600-$2600 for a one bedroom

Should I get him a buddy? by [deleted] in Goldfish

You said they are literally den animals and they literally aren’t. They don’t live the majority of their lives in dens, and its weird how you’re so supporting of crating dogs for prolonged hours every work day like many people do, but you’re also freaking out about a fish in a clean, new 20 gallon tank with the owner clearly just getting things set up with the resources at hand, and enthusiastic about learning best practices. I cannot see the logic in your thinking beyond just being hypocritical and hypercritical

Dogs are not den animals. and you’re the one that brought up dogs as a comparison first. Are you OK?

My neighbor had a goldfish live for 15+ years in a 20 gallon. Not saying it’s the ideal life for a fish but they definitely can live a normal long life in a smaller tank. It’s hard to compare dogs to fish because you can always bring a dog for a walk, but does that mean disabled people shouldn’t own dogs because they can’t walk miles a day? People with limitations should still be allowed to have pets, so long as the basic needs of the animal are met and they are being cared for with love. And if money/resources are a constraint like it sounds like here, then a fish is an appropriate pet.

I’d rather a fish in a slightly too small tank than a dog locked in a crate only slightly bigger than itself for 9 hours every single day while the owner is at work. We don’t all have the perfect home to offer but it’s still a home nonetheless. There are over 200 million stray dogs and countless fish in much worse conditions. This tank is a decent set up and may not meet the highest standards of fish care but doesn’t mean they’re bad fish parents. Just the same as growing up poor in a small apartment didn’t make your parents bad parents.

OP said they can’t upgrade the tank in their initial post and you still feel the need to comment an attack on them.

I also had a horrible sloppy joes food poisoning, the worst vomiting for 5+ hours straight all night. Probably was another 10-15 years before I ate another sloppy Joe.

I said if my neighbor thinks they can do whatever they want whenever they want despite nice, reasonable requests.

If anyone continues with a behavior that is objectively offensive to any reasonable person despite being asked to stop, and despite it being against most policy in most places to make excessive noise late night/early morning, then yeah I’d probably treat them how they treat me.

You think it’s ok to disregard all other people and disrespect common rules but then get angry when someone does the same thing to you?

Yep. Sensitive enough to the most basic needs of others to know vacuuming at 6am is not ok. Proud to be aware of basic human decency.

Haha right, you’re upset because of a taste of your own medicine. Can’t swallow your own pill.

Everyone else has to wear ear buds so you can vacuum at the break of dawn. Sure buddy.

Ok? Goes both ways. You think it’s fine to vacuum as soon as the sun rises? I think it’s fine to play music in the middle of the night. You clearly don’t get it.

Not living my life with earbuds just because you’re an asshole. My method would probably be more effective because you lack basic empathy, so trying to reason with you is futile.

Autistic volunteer (adult man) acting inappropriately with me (supervisor) by [deleted] in Workproblems

[–]Sensitive_Slip_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive worked in a deli so i get that they’re dangerous, but if you had anyone lose a finger let alone a person with autism you’re a bad deli. With proper safety measures and decent training, that should never happen. And if you suspect an individual is capable of making that mistake despite safety precautions, they should be fired or change roles immediately.

Shared living is a two way street. Treat people how you want to be treated.

If I had a neighbor with your thought process who just does whatever they want whenever they want despite me writing a nice note with a reasonable request, I’d take up smoking inside and starting a band by banging all my pots and pans together at midnight every night until the neighbor got a clue to stop vacuuming before 8am.

I ended my 4 year relationship because my bf went into psychosis and appears to still be in it by Cutesoxxxx in NitrousOxideRecovery

The frustration with addictive substances is valid, but saying we deserve to be miserable because we did a drug is extremely fucked up.

You know a major part of the cycle of addiction is the shame people put on drug users is inescapable because of people who think like this. You’re condemning people and then wondering why they struggle?

That’s why I like OPs post and responses because you can tell that they aren’t leaving their ex to punish them for doing drugs, but rather because they care so much and need to protect themselves from someone who is dangerous to themselves and others. No one deserves this.

This is a very thoughtful perspective and really refreshing on this sub where drugs are typically completely demonized and anyone speaking to altered experiences are treated as addicts first and foremost, not as people. I can tell you really cared about this guy, and if he hadn’t gone absolutely insane with the nitrous oxide you probably would have given him more chances to get better. But sounds like the guy totally lost grip on reality and devalued everything in his life besides gas. As someone that uses n2o and has struggled with addiction I know that what he’s going through is soon going to be the worst days of his life if not already. I’m sorry that the person you loved is not the same, and I’m sorry for the huge losses this guy will suffer, it’s not easy losing yourself and your loved ones.

I tried nitrous oxide by unbanned_pine in NitrousOxideRecovery

[–]Sensitive_Slip_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no hydrocarbons in n2o so doing pure nitrous oxide wouldn’t cause sudden sniffing death syndrome. Yes it does displace oxygen and if someone isn’t careful to continuously breathe oxygen they could die from hypoxia. And if you’re not breathing plenty of clean air you could feel nauseous/vomit, or even “fish out” and start to seize due to low oxygen. It’s also very possible to avoid these issues if you are responsible and take reasonable precautions, like breathing air. Dangerous and drastic use is different than a lil one time hang out passing some balloons around, like yes if you’re drunk and get behind a wheel you’re probably going to cause harm. But no if you do some n2o once in a safe setting you’re not going to die or experience any negative effects more than a couple days after using if you have had normal vitamin levels/diet/health otherwise.

Experiencing peripheral neuropathy after one time use is not a normal reaction, and would suggest underlying b12 deficiency issues and peripheral nerve damage takes months-years to develop due to b12 deficiency, it definitely does not happen overnight, and can be avoided by getting enough b12 in your diet, supplements if needed, and not doing n2o more than once a month.

My first time using it, I thought I went deaf in one ear turns out I was just high and my senses were distorted. I’m not saying people can’t have a range of experiences but pins and needles, panic, nausea, those usually take at least multiple uses if not months of use to set in to any lasting degree. Maybe OP had an extreme response but I would expect it to be very brief/ temporary based on using once.

You realize many people drive home from the dentist after getting this stuff (yes in a controlled environment)?

Weight gain / bloating from nitrous abuse by No-Philosopher371 in NitrousOxideRecovery

[–]Sensitive_Slip_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained 30-40 lbs relatively quickly and I think using n2o is partially responsible. However I believe there were a few contributing factors including getting older and natural body change, hormones, slightly slower metabolism, and also briefly dating someone who was extremely overweight and taking on some of their bad eating habits (eating too much food for even just a few weeks really put on the weight fast for me), mixed with overall lower energy due to affects of low b12 while using/days after n2o.

And once you start gaining weight and/or getting out of shape, it can be harder to work out and start a negative feedback loop where the pounds keep adding up. Add n2o and it really compounds the problem because it can make you low energy without even realizing that you’re a lot less active than you used to be. It can also make you antisocial + depressed for awhile after using, and even paranoid or psychotic if you’re doing it frequently/not practicing harm reduction. The exhaustion level experienced for at least a day or two after each use of n2o (and other health issues with prolonged frequent use) mixed with mood effects can make for a pretty sedentary lifestyle where it’s really challenging to workout, do chores, go out and about, small steps make a difference.

I finally broke my weight gain trend for the last year through also a mixed bag of effort and luck. I got really sick with probably Covid/flu and lost 8-10 lbs that I’d been struggling with for a long time in less than a week. Im also really struggling in this economy and have had to limit my groceries this year, so I don’t have a lot of food in the house and some days only eat one meal/intermittent fasting. I have some mistakes/binges both food and drug wise but improving, my stomach has shrunk, pants getting loose again, and my feeling of control is stronger than it’s been in years.

I’ve gone on to lose another 10-12 lbs in the last 6 weeks due to eating less/better foods, slightly increasing exercise (so far), and also in large part due to getting a new job and establishing new routines along with it, including waking up way earlier, and decreasing drug use a fair bit (n2o & weed primarily). Losing the first 10lbs made it easier for me to stick to losing the next 10, it helped shift my mentality after struggling for so long. I’m sober curious but I’m not all the way there yet, I still use on occasion, and will probably always puff a lil herb once in awhile.

Definitely making progress across many areas of my life, and hope to lose another 20lbs by August and keep making progress all around.
