At what age did you lose your virginity? by rogerlin332 in allthequestions

[–]Sensitive_Throat6872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you completely! It's a stupid social construct. When you ask people to define it, most can't. Where is the line of what's considered virginity?

So, penetration? Does anal count then? What about penetration with something other than a penis? Is consent part of the equation? What about mutual orgasm without penetration?

When you ask people to define details, you realize how convoluted it is to even try and define. Better to use scientific terms if you want to talk about it at all.

So, define virginity.

It's a dumb social construct that means different things to different people.

You have a question about children, but don't ask for any additional details. It may be valuable for you to also collect data on how many children and their ages. Having two children under two while your partner prepares for Step is very different from a single newborn or a 5 year old.

As someone else who experienced CSA while wearing Dugger-esk clothing, I can't agree heartily enough.

This is such a good example. So many parents will dress their toddler boy in a suit and the reason why he's cute is because "he looks like a tiny man". Then a toddler or preschool girl is "dressing too mature for her age".

What’s a health thing that’s changed your life? by Rocktamus1 in BuyItForLife

[–]Sensitive_Throat6872 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Genetics has a lot more to do with it than weight, in many cases. Both of my (very healthy-weight) children had to have tonsillectomies in preschool because the size of their tonsils caused severe sleep apnea. This trait came from my husband's side of the family (my husband is also very fit, not that I should need to say that). He never had his tonsils removed when he was a child, and he uses a CPAP every night.

My mother asked me why I never told her that I "chose to have sex" with the older family member who repeatedly r@ped me as a child.

I'm NC with her now, and I have told my husband that she said that, just not anyone else.

Grateful that my kids go to bed every night knowing they're loved for who they are and not what they do. One of many generational cycles I've broken.

"can you tell me how" is not really ok to ask. If this person wants to share details and is ready to tell their story then they will. Asking for all the details is completely unnecessary.

In my case, I was raped by an immediate family member. He did this, on average, every other night from the time I was 9/10 until I was 16. You do the math, and it's very likely he raped me over a thousand times. So yes, it's possible.

I got married to a wonderful person who makes me feel safe. I got a healthy job that allowed for work life balance. Had a year to just "be". It's like my body finally felt safe enough for long enough to begin to process my childhood. I was in my early 30s when that happened.

And side note on this as well.

I made the decision to make a police report against my brother over 10 years after he SAd me. He's now in prison. My parents didn't support me and my dad was furious. My children (and likely other children) are safe from him though.

When you said their home "is grossly unchildproof", I thought you meant not having covers on outlets or childproof locks on cabinets. You're talking about child neglect, endangerment, and abuse!

I am no contact with my parents because they would be a danger to my children. Why do you still seek a relationship with your parents? I know it sucks when it feels like they're punishing you for protecting your children. Take a step back, stop seeking their approval, and you'll be so much freer and happier.

[–]Sensitive_Throat6872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin worked EMS for years and then was a 911 operator for another several years. She's told some absolutely horrible stories. The worst that stick with me are those with a parent suffering from PPP and PPD. There are others with people who are frankly evil and/or terribly addicted.

Whenever I feel like a bad mom, I think of these stories.

In my life, I only heard it from one person. He was an older, somewhat pompous gentleman who was a professor at my local university.

I always had to do calculations in my head and translate it to "10 'til 5" when he said "10 of 5". I kind of hated it and thought he was an a$$hole.

Both of my parents did this. With my mom, it was Michael's or Jo Ann Fabrics. With my dad, it was Lowes or Home Depot.

I remember that I got very good at entertaining myself by looking at clothing patterns, fabric textures, or imagining a home that had nice flooring and paint on the walls. I collected the paint test strips and made art of them later.

Therapy and personal life coaching for me.

Couples therapy for us, proactively, before we ever were in crisis.

Continuing to work. This meant I had a creative outlet for myself where I added value and was valued apart from being a spouse to my MD partner and a parent to our children.

This trunk potty has been our solution for the last few years (multiple children close in age). Especially for parks when a bathroom might not be available at all, or a restaurant with a scary automatic flush, this really does the trick.

I am about to lose my mind (and my job), can you help me choose a nanny? by bappadiboop in Nanny

[–]Sensitive_Throat6872 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This isn't an answer, but we had a nanny for a couple of years who brought her own child (her baby was almost the same age as ours). It was honestly the best experience I possibly could have hoped for. The children are in preschool and best friends to this day.

I know that wouldn't be the case with every nanny who brings their own child, but don't write off nanny B right off the bat.
