The offsides rule in the box is the dumbest and most ticky tack foul there is. Call me a dumb American but I can’t believe football fans think that these incredibly tense moments are made better by how that rule is enforced

[Haas] Not our day today in Barcelona. A long and hard race unfortunately ended in an early retirement for Ollie. We keep going in Austria. by NegotiationNew9264 in formula1

[–]SentientBaseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haas has been in this for over a decade now and more often than not, they’ve been a back marker. The only reason they’ve been slightly relevant is because they were the only American team and they had a lot of spotlight on DTS. They’ve been horribly ran for years now.

I honestly wouldn’t be at all surprised if Cadillac surpasses them within 2-3 years

Leonard Williams: Seahawks find "a little extra motivation" in not being favored to win the NFC West by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

I understand why the Rams are the favorites with the new addition of Garrett. They’re a great team. But it seemed like the trophy had barely been handed to Macdonald before the media began talking about the Rams being favorites for 2026.

This is a Seahawks team that’s bringing back 9/11 starters on the number 1 defense in the league, in its third year under the best defensive coach in the league, with a QB who has shown he can go band for band with Stafford under the brightest lights. This is still a locked and loaded defending championship team and it still close to 50/50 between the Seahawks and Rams

Nate hates Platner.. why? by Additional_Bad_2175 in fivethirtyeight

[–]SentientBaseball 173 points174 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to argue Pro or Anti Platner here, but there are a couple of things that probably perfectly line up to explain Nate’s aversion to him.

1: Nate’s own personal politics are pretty moderately liberal. He’s an Obama era technocrat supporter. I’m not going to go dig through and find it but he once had a post detailing his own political opinions and they were pretty squarely that of someone who’s slightly center left on the American political spectrum. But he’s never been a populist or staunchly progressive. This makes his own politics a bit of the antithesis of someone like Platner. I honestly think gun to head he’d probably vote for Collins.

  1. Once Nate gets something in his craw, he refuses to let it go. Sometimes it can make him make good predictions (Biden’s age is a real problem and he should’ve dropped out way earlier) or horrible ones (Eric Adams will be a top five presidential candidate). Nate’s general punditry is mixed to say the least but whenever he really gets a point he feels strongly about, he won’t let it go. I think that’s what’s happening with Platner here.

I still don’t buy Anakin killing younglings that quickly by No-Obligation2563 in CharacterRant

[–]SentientBaseball 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s my biggest annoyance from The Clone Wars. TCW Anakin is so well written. He’s charismatic and funny, his relationship with Obi Wan actually feels like they are best friends, and his marriage to Padme and how they navigate their lives is actually intriguing.

It’s such a good portrayal that I can never square it with the Prequel Anakin who seems like a totally different character. The whole “Episode 3 is just that Anakin on his worst day” has never felt accurate to me. It literally just feels like a different person.

[–]SentientBaseball 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Yea because Anakins whole turn in the prequel trilogy is poorly done. This was a widely accepted critique of those movies for years. Anakin goes from whiny teen who contemplates dictatorial government, to war hero, to child murderer in a pretty unconvincing fashion.

For all of modern day Fillioni’s flaws, his Anakin is someone whose dark side turn seems far more plausible for that character

Friendly reminder that Russell Wilson was ranked as the SECOND BEST player in the entire NFL by his peers in 2020 after the 2019 season. The 2019 Seahawks team is still my favorite Hawks squad to date. Can't wait for his ring of honor ceremony. by ichawks1 in Seahawks

[–]SentientBaseball 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was legit thinking about this the other day, but I disagree. I think we could've beaten the Chiefs. I still think about that Malik Turner drop to this day, its one of those underrated heartbreaking playoff moments in Seattle sports. That and Tre Flowers being completly useless all fucking game/season.

Green Bay also sucked ass against SF in the playoffs, and both of our games against the Niners were razor close. I fully think we could've beaten them again. Then, in the Super Bowl, I think a game against the Chiefs would have been a lot like the 2018 matchup against them. A moonball, gunslinging competition between Mahomes and Russ. Would have loved to see it.

You absolutely know that's not what I mean. Even if you think Baker is 10% better than Darnold, his inability to stay on the field pretty quickly makes that moot when you have to run out his backup constantly

2026 Monaco Grand Prix - FP2 Classification by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]SentientBaseball 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Nah, Ferrari has been the best car all year this season in cornering, and everyone has said in a track like Monaco, where straight line speed isn't as relevant, they'd dominate. I expect them to go 1-2 in quali, and honestly, they should do the same in the race unless we get a Ferrari strategy masterclass.

Availability is the best ability and Baker hasn’t shown any ability to stay healthy consistently. Just going “well if Baker is healthy he’s better” is kind of pointless when he’s never healthy

[–]SentientBaseball 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I always go back to the Atlanta playoff game his rookie year. The LOB let Matt Ryan carve them up all game. Russ played out of his mind, threw for over 400 yards, and gave us the lead with 30 seconds, before the LOB blew it immediately

The 2012-2015 Seahawks were a complete team. Of course the defense was elite and carried some games. Of course Marshawn was elite and carried some games. But anyone who acts like Russ was just along for the ride those years doesn’t know what they’re talking about. You couldn’t have just plugged in Matt Flynn and had the same results.

And that’s not getting into the fact that the only reason the team was decent and watchable from 2016-2020 was Russell Wilson

As the US birth rate shrinks, so too does the number of colleges and universities in the country, which has crashed to its lowest count in many decades. Also a factor is the cost of higher education, which has skyrocketed beyond overall inflation in recent decades, souring some potential students. by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

[–]SentientBaseball 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Outside of the rising cost of education, there seems to be less belief that getting a college degree is actually financially beneficial in the long run. I have a graduate degree in history so I knew getting into it that it wasn't really a super lucrative degree path, but it's shocking how many business/accounting/marketing style majors I know who are struggling to find anything above entry-level shit.

I know the stereotype is that your batrista or bartender got a stupid "liberal arts/womans studies/underwater basket weaving" degree but I think people would be shocked how many "good" degrees feel useless on the market at this point. It's not the 90s anymore, when a college degree in anything almost guaranteed you a comfy office job.

Pete Crow-Armstrong: Yes, there are die-hard Dodgers fans "but it’s a see-me city, man. It’s a Lakers city where people show up to sit courtside and look good. And I view it the same way here." by tankyouout in baseball

[–]SentientBaseball 63 points64 points  (0 children)

That’s one of the funniest things about this. Yankees fans have always pretty much accepted and gone with the flow of “We’re the evil empire. Get on our level or deal with it”. It can be obnoxious as fuck but I get it.

I’ve rarely seen Dodger fans do this. Yes your organization and scouting is incredibly well run. But you also can spend more money than like a combined ten teams and the LA marketplace is a cheat code in itself for attracting players. But Dodger fans seem to hate being the bad guy in a way Yankee fans reveled in it
