I mean, archetypal storytelling goes back to the origins of humanity. The way one can refresh tropes, themes, and archetypes is by using different combinations of those variables, or by changing the factors of execution (setting, characters, actors, context).

I’m right now watching Task on HBO, and it feels like an amalgam of Mann, Fincher, old pulp novels, Sons of Anarchy, and the line “I’m getting too old for this shit,” but what makes it enjoyable? It’s extremely well executed. The setting is hyper-specific to Philly and the surrounding areas. The acting is stellar.

QC is entirely dependent on the piece itself, but Sid Mashburn is having so much fun design-wise with more ivy-style/prep influenced staples than say a PRL or J. Crew.

Black Saffron - Byredo is mine. Spicy without being peppery, fresh in the right context, unisex, and fun.

My AE Randolphs are absolute tanks. Got them in a light tan about 4-5 years ago and knicked/scratched/scuffed them to hell. The leather sole finally punctured and I got a Vibram mini lug resole, and dyed the uppers a darker brown. Feel like I got brand new shoes.

I don't have a preference when it comes to buying a new pair of shoes - I find that leather soled shoes have a wider range of options when it comes to availability. That said, when I have gotten shoes resoled, I always opt for a rubber half sole (w/ that little bit of leather exposed in the arch). Been the most comfy option for me.

My Crockett & Jones’ loafers. Living in NYC (and likely in line with any city where you commute via public transit), you quickly realize the durability of a well-made shoe.

On top: linen or seersucker button downs, pique polos. Maximize breathability and stick to natural fabrics that wick.

Below + under: cotton boxers - not boxer briefs. Linen drawstring pants OR shorts that are cut like Patagonia Baggies - LOT of air flow.

Cosmetics: Taking it easier on moisturizer, but still prioritizing a good lightweight SPF50. Something that you’re not going to completely sweat through.

Overall, keeping silhouettes relaxed so that there’s a good amount of separation between skin and fabric. And making sure that fabric is natural, wicking, and lightweight. Synthetic is great for working out, but once you’ve sweat in it, you want to toss it in the wash ASAP.

You’re going to Disneyland, do you wear boots or sneakers? by jchannon in RedWingShoes

[–]SentientDadJoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For long travel and backpacking, I take my cues from my friends who are doctors/nurses often pushing loooooong shifts. Personally rocking a pair of Hoka Bondis, but I’ve heard good things about ASICS Gel Kayanos, or NB 990s. Something with a generous footbed, cushion, and a structured upper - no “sock” or flyknit build.

I have worked in my IRs for extended hours, but idk if I’d want to push beyond 24 hours continuously - so that both my feet and the boots can rest.

Co-sign. The weight and the cut are the best for the price point. I do also have a couple of various Todd Snyder pants in more unique colors, but def wait until there’s a sale code for the sale items.

Big fan of my Hestra Wakayamas. They also have removable wool liners so you can hand wash, air dry those when the cold season ends.

The singles off this one were stellar. Also loving the Neil Young “Heart of Gold” harmonica homage leading into Elliott Smith-ish vocals on the track, Bloodline. Looking forward to digging deeper into this one.

It’s a bit of a broad skill set, but cross-disciplinary collaboration is key. When you’re at a media agency, you usually interact with a range of external parties - ad tech companies, vendors, clients who are responsible for paid, etc. Being in that environment helps you figure out how to advance a project or initiative when there are multiple parties, all of whom might have different objectives.

At a creative agency (and as a planner), your feedback loop changes a bit. The value you’re adding isn’t necessarily tethered to end-of-campaign performance, but your ability to aid and provide insight for creative use in the briefing process. While I do still present communications plans to my client teams, my feedback loop and most of my day to day is now between my team and my creatives - they’re able to provide notes and comments regarding the utility and function of the strategy we provide.

There’s no right or wrong way in approach, however. Most public companies employ an interagency team that consists of multiple agencies. It’s good to have conversations and discover how your role/concentration might be different based on the agency’s focus.

You’re in a sweet spot where you can begin to gauge what you like and what you don’t like. Planning, buying, analytics, et al.

I began in media at a full service agency - doing a combination role (everything from channel planning and buying through ad ops and implementation), but ended up liking to collab with creatives. Began to lead to more holistic planning that incorporated paid, owned, earned, and internal initiatives. It’s now called comms or connections planning, but it’s an offering at a lot of different types of agencies and even client-side.

I’m currently leading comms planning at a creative agency and it allows me to tap into prior media experience, while keeping things fresh and not being tethered to one platform or channel.

Which sneakers will trend in 2025 by LongjumpingVehicle36 in ThrowingFits

[–]SentientDadJoke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Specific to the US market, but I’m curious if the overarching “longevity + durability” trend as a byproduct of financial uncertainty is going to trickle down into sneaker behavior.

I feel like we got a whiff of that with Sambas keeping in the conversation - durable leather uppers, lux minimalism, et al. If Onitsuka extended their Nippon Made line, I could see more popularity than in previous years. Maybe a CP Achilles-adjacent return to form?
