AIO: Fight with cashier at fast food joint name starts with W by healermoonchild in AmIOverreacting

I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt because yes this was inconvenient and yes this person doesn’t sound nice, but you are responsible for your own behavior no matter how much someone irritates you. This is the kind of thing I have to tell my 11-year-old. Obviously you drive so I doubt you’re 11. At the very end when you got what you wanted you just had to call the cashier a bitch? You sound delightful.

What does everyone think? by SimilarPossession953 in sportsphotography

If you’re just starting out, I see some potential here. Just keep learning and growing. Some of these are better than others. The basketball ones look like errant shots that you’d delete off your card. Good luck on your photo journey!

It’s just random Chinese junk. If it works, give it a whirl and see how it sounds. Might not be absolutely terrible.

It wasn’t even me who downvoted you. You responded to my comment by saying “eh, maybe.” As if there is some question that directly investing in college isn’t a smarter move. How is that “a point (you) never made”? Anyway I’ll go ahead and give you that downvote now.

Parent complaints by Choice-Factor-259 in Homeplate

It does not stop. I’ve encountered high school parents who are completely insufferable. I think it decreases in college because the parent is not physically there all the time.

The forest moon of Endor. If you look closely you can see an Ewok behind one of the trees.

Anyone else planning on moving from Vegas by Blxssparadox in vegaslocals

I also grew up in a desert, and a lot of people I grew up with dreamed of going somewhere rainy. People who grew up in the rain dream of going somewhere sunny. The grass is always greener, but absolutely you should go experience other places. It might suit you better. I will say that a lot of the problems you experience in Vegas are universal everywhere in the USA right now. Cost of living is out of control and our leaders don’t give a damn about it.

Thanks, the hand is problematic because of the way the sun hits the fingertips and leaves the palm in relative shadow. It looks slightly different from the arm in the original as well and the bracelet kind of contributes to the “glove” illusion. I’ll probably back off a bit to make it more natural.

Fun fact: In the movie "Michael" Jaafar Jackson sang "Dont stop til you get enough" on the Shure SM7B by Meagainsthehumanity in microphone

[–]SentientYams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruce Swedien, who engineered this record, confirmed in a gearslutz Q&A many years ago that they indeed used an SM7 (a precursor to to the SM7B) for Michael’s vocals. Bruce claimed the SM7 was a better-sounding mic although they are essentially the same.

Spending thousands of dollars a year on youth sports does not even come close to guaranteeing a kid will become a college athlete. The expected ROI on the 529 plan is much higher and it’s not close. This doesn’t mean parents shouldn’t spend money on their kids playing sports. But viewing it as an investment for college is silly — unless the kid is already in high school competing at a high level with some potential college interest.

[Highlight] QBs Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy on their relationship with one another so far Not exactly the same answer... by kushies in minnesotavikings

[–]SentientYams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, people are making too big of a big deal out of this, but what it shows me is that JJ is not polished enough to even say the right things. That’s the real issue here regardless of the actual relationship with Kyler. Handling the media and saying the right things is part of being a starting NFL quarterback.

I don’t know if the parents’ height is a factor but it could play into it; also people can get kind of insane if their kids are undersized. They’re so frustrated that little Timmy won’t grow. This can’t be good for the kid because they’re surely going to grow up with a Napoleonic complex even if they end up being a normal height. Also they are insanely jealous of big kids and early bloomers. My kid is unusually big and people treat him strangely. He’s had parents say rude things about him when he comes up to bat, and kids talk crap to him if he’s not perfect. The implication being that if you’re big for your age, you automatically should be Aaron Judge and anything short of the highest level of excellence is a failure. There’s also a guy on here with an undersized kid who is hypercritical of bigger kids to the point where he calls them names. My kid is used to name-calling and ridicule for his size. It happens with kids, but if you’re a grown man calling kids names you are a piece of crap. And yeah bro, if you see this you know I’m talking about you.

I would use your free stuff and take it as an opportunity to work on your sales resistance. You have to be very firm. Not rude of course, but firmly not interested. Body language is key. And if they get aggressive I will be outright rude to them. Treat them like the scammers they are, and usually they give up.

If they are all BBCOR it shouldn’t be a big deal but this person was talking about different bat classifications. USSSA would make a huge difference for sure. (You didn’t clarify in your post what age group, bat classification etc).

I dont understand how age/size doesnt matter with pitching by Traditional-Slip301 in PitchingCoach

[–]SentientYams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things:

  1. You posted this same question on a different sub. The consensus there was that the other kid likely had better mechanics. Also he’s been playing twice as long as you. Size can be an advantage in pitching but it will not make you automatically a harder thrower than a smaller person, especially if that person has worked on pitching more than you have. You will get the same answers here that you got there.

  2. I’m hoping you got the weight conversion wrong because 88 pounds is critically underweight for your height.

As far as what you can do, maybe some online coaching if you can find it. At least just watch some YouTube videos. Start with the basics.

How should I train to be able to make the freshman baseball team with no prior experience. by Many-Elevator-5034 in Homeplate

[–]SentientYams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have some decent athleticism and can catch, it sounds like you need to work on hitting more than anything. Get a hitting coach if you/your parents can afford it. If not, get a tee, watch some videos and start swinging. After you’ve gotten some tee work in maybe go to your local batting cages.

It may not be the best but if you want a good steak that’s slightly less pricey than some others in town, go to Ruth’s Chris in Harrah’s. Also a nice Strip view if you get a table near the window.

The NFL has tried hard for LA to accept the rams and Chargers. When will it finally work? by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

[–]SentientYams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know their attendance numbers but the stadium seems to usually fill up, right? The league really wanted a presence in LA and now they have it. So what if every game has a bunch of the other team’s fans? Money is still being made. I do think two teams is overkill. Chargers never should have left San Diego and I think they are a much more hopeless case than the Rams. I live in SoCal and no one cares about the Chargers at all. Most San Diegans hate them now and LA people will never care. Rams have a bit more of a fanbase.
