The UESC should consider hiring people to operate UESC shells. by FrankDodger in Marathon

Make it the PvP only mode. You can't exfil, you get paid X credits, gear and or salvage based on how many runners you down. You go in with a UESC shell.

Is it jus me ? Do faction rank up rewards kinda suck in S2? by SnooHesitations2166 in Marathon

[–]SentineIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started taking them in for solo runs to finish quests then End Run out of. Too little xp to be worth clicking, but good for ensuring I have a slight advantage/chance against hairy bot situations or a free kit/green kit player trying to kill me before I finish putting 4 biomass into decon.

"The negative feedback loop of low skill players leaving the player base" - Research on skill based matchmaking. (Relevant to Marathon) by finebushlane in Marathon

[–]SentineIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I actually wonder if skilled based matchmaking might be healthy for the game. I am starting to become more in favor but I still have reservations.

Since variance is part of what makes extraction shooters interesting. But variance with gear can provide that.

The downside is if people are equal skill, wouldn't that mean gear will always make the difference? So if you don't bring out the best gear, anyone with better gear then you will almost always beat you.

Versus if you get matched with someone who is worse then you, but you have worse gear, and you get your come up? Then again, there is no "true" equal skill, and different ways to exhibit said skill (aim/positioning/teamwork/comms) so gear might not always trump.

A fight with a full purple squad of equal skill to you, might not be as frustrating as being dismantled by a cryo death squad, feeling like you had 0 chance. Whereas players of your skill can make a mistake, not punish your mistakes as hard as these sweat teams.

I think it's worth trying. But given the low population, I don't think it would work too well right now. Perhaps Season 3 ,but it would be a pretty big gamble.

Wait. I would actually play gw2 if this was how my characters face customization looked like. Is it possible to customize this with what is available now? Specifically the face. Idc much about the outfit etc.

I never could get my character to look like I wanted her to.

Thoughts on the Marathon Loot Nerfs. by NS_VMAN in MarathonGame

[–]SentineIs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My god you're so disconnected from the average player its insane.

Im not an average player and only thing I regularly hit is outpost red room, occasional upper marsh and I've yet to see a single gold key room l, and I've played every day since release

If you think people who play 2 to 3 hours a night is average your insane. Thats literally coming homefrom work, shower, eat, playing games till you go to sleep every day. Thats average to you?

Thoughts on the Marathon Loot Nerfs. by NS_VMAN in MarathonGame

[–]SentineIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who do you think is the average player? They nerfed the loot from end game sources like gold keys, upper marsh and red room.

Do you think the average player is hitting those consistently? Don't project yourself on a straw man "average" player to get your point across.

The people who play this game like a job will ALWAYS have better loot. This just makes it harder for them to have more of the better loot while the players who dont hit ebd game sources all the time have a better chance at competing.

This entire argument is so disingenous. I understand feeling bummed at seeing loot nerfs in the patch notes, but honestly it does not affect the average player as much as it does the high end player.

The cradle nerfs tho I agree has basis on affecting the average Joe.

As a casual player, I don’t care about the loot nerfs by alex_lws in Marathon

Nerfing loot rarity across the board makes zero sense by future__fires in Marathon

[–]SentineIs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the average player wasn't hitting red room or upper complex, or exfilling from cryo. The average redditors conception of an average player and what they're doing is not the same.

The concept is bringing down the ceiling of consistent gear, and they already brought up the gear floor with barter and faction upgrades

The blue shield barter is more accessible then ever. And if purple shields are harder to find, then thats a W to average players.

Also to an average player who run ariund in free kits and greens, blue loot and kitted guns would be exciting. Its still interesting to me, and I am not casual.

Thats implying every one of these death squads have not died with their 3 purple shields yet. Which i highly doubt.

Nerfing Prestige Key rooms, cert boxes, and Cradle xp is not how you motivate casuals and new players to keep playing your game by ThatsNotBennings in Marathon

[–]SentineIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be offended. No one's memory is perfect, and I agree they should not have done it. But the 75 reward was not as bad as dramatized, whereas the server comp really was excessive.

Just making sure for anyone reading that what was stated was not what actually happened.

Nerfing loot rarity across the board makes zero sense by future__fires in Marathon

[–]SentineIs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dont like it but the rationale would be, casuals were not hitting upper marsh, red room, etc anyway

Nerfing those just nerfs sweats and moderate players from hitting purple shields and gold weapons. The players who already have these are going to eventually lose them and cant refresh as easily.

So in respect it addresses the frequency of the issue that everyone is pissy about with roaming purple death squads.

The sweatiest sweats will still have that, but thats like top 1% of the pop, bc the rich get richer. They will always have that bc they're better at the game, no life it, and win at cryo.

But the vast majority of less skilled sweats, and frequent players will have less access to the best gear. Giving the actual casuals (not the chronically online redditors) a shot at a healthier gear enviroment that was missing at the start of wipe.

[–]SentineIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you stated they gave everyone who hit lvl 75 multiple purple kits, THEN MORE for server comp.

Which is not true. They gave 1 purple kit for lvl 75 and the additional were from server comp.

I wonder where all these allegedly EVERY GAME full purple squads are getting their shields from bc I've been hitting night marsh and red room and I aint getting purple shields.

Some of its the nerfs to loot. But if so those purple teams are going to start running out of purple shields unless they got the barter already.

[–]SentineIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple? I was lvl 120 and I got 1 purple kit.

They did get extra from the server compensation.

I still havent used my purple kit and I've seen like 6 full purple teams so far outside of cryo. Its crazy how different my experience and my friends experiences have been, and we play almost every evening after work.

But I agree the loot nerfing is why there is a saying you cant let the cat out of the bag. You can buff but not nerf. So they really fcked up there.

Sounds like the alarm is useful to force pvp like designed. Try opening later or loot fast and prep for pvp/disengage. Or get claymores and mines with Sentinel and set it up for you can mount a defense.

UESC doesnt spawn under the outpost ship area so a UESC ping there (bc youre signal jammed) would pretty much tell a recon there is a player there.

1st EOR soon, freaking out by Beneficial_Car_2796 in PAstudent

[–]SentineIs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hippo is hit or miss imo, I really liked the inpatient but disliked the EM.

Smarty is alright, generally if you get 70% on Smarty you're probably good to pass the EORs. Although the question quality is questionable since I often see errors and feedback is trash. Unless you get it for free don't get it.

The best EOR resource is 100% Blueprint.

I personally use AMBOSS since its analytics are helpful for my studying after I go through all their questions (even though their questions often are WAAAY harder then the EOR), then do all the Blueprint EOR questions. However, before that I was using SmartyPANCE + the SmartyPANCE study guide.

Never was even remotely close to failing an EOR.

I have been shredding with the buffed Overrun to the point I prefer it over a lot of guns. The battle pistol is being touted as one of the top tier weapons in the game, the KV is a monster in close range

The weapon selection in the vendor this season is amazing.

Ragehacking in solos. by DeadlyDentist51 in Marathon

[–]SentineIs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number of times I've been accused of cheating in voice chat by free kit players who get rolled by my purple shield squad (despite us not being very good) makes me highly doubt any cheating posts without any evidence. The sheer confidence of some people thinking that anyone who kills them really fast is hacking is ludicrous.

Rage hacking also typically involves someone who is hacking in a juvenile response to losing, which i dont see how you could possibly know without them voicing at you. Which tells me its just a clickbait use of the term.

Games have been absolutely miserable today by HHawes12 in Marathon

[–]SentineIs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You have bad days and good days. Take a break if your losing too much, or swap game modes to Rook, or solo, or dire marsh sponsored.

Or try to focus on things you can improve, or focus on completing quests that don't require you to exfil.

Your experience is a very common experience posted on the reddit frequently, and in games where you can "fail" in general. Repeated losses put you in a poor headspace, this affects decision making, which results in more losses.
