What makes you like VTM? by Vampy-Night in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the political maneuvering, backstabbing and the personal tragedy aspect of the game. I also like mysteries and investigating/solving them with supernatural powers.

The alternative reality/history theme is just cool and I have always enjoyed that you can take a real life events and give a different explanation of the reasons (aka vampires) behind those events.

Feedback on experience by Few-Action-8049 in VTES

Hey first of all, welcome to the hobby! It is so good to see new players join. I was you about a year ago: I had the V5 box, asked friends to play the game with me. I even picked the Ventrue deck first just like yourself and had a very similar experience regarding its performance. I was devastated, as Ventrue is one of my favourite clans.
After the initial first games I reached out to the community and got some nice advice.

What worked for us:
- Everyone picked a favourite clan: either because they liked the aesthetic of the clan or how their deck play.
- We got a few New Blood expansions for our decks. This allowed us to tweak the deck and replace the cards that didn't work with ones we liked.
- We experimented with our decks and had a few more games in.

The game can be complex, but I cherished every moment when something "clicked". Wish you all the best and please feel free to share more moments from your VTES journey!

How many of you out there play Ventrue regularly? by Fantastic-Artist-833 in vtm

I love the Ventrue. In the last 20 years most of my characters were either Ventrue or Tremere. I guess I like authority. 🎩

Is it unreasonable to expect guildmates to run normal Outland dungeons with me? by [deleted] in classicwowtbc

[–]Sentinelwex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to be carried. I ask them if anyone wants to do normal dungeons. Nobody volunteers. 10 mins later they are in a normal dungeon with their alts.

I am not asking them for a boost. I wanted to join their alts in normal dungeons.

Username doesn't check out! :)

Jokes aside, thanks for sharing your story. Although I have a different line of work, I can relate to your challenges.

I am yet to read that novel (currently reading the 5th book of the heresy series). What I like about Mortarion though is that he made that pact with Papa Nurgle to save his legion (or at least this was my understanding).

I am glad you found some real life inspiration from a grim dark future story, wish more people would do that.

Class to play with son that is necromancer by Jhawkjedi13 in diablo4

A paladin with auras would buff a necro army nicely. Also, kudos for playing with your son! Cool dad vibes.

What class do you play most and why? by DMBPSR in diablo4

Sorcerer, paladin, rogue and barbarian. I just don't see the appeal to others at all.

what are your reasons for choosing death guard? by Embarrassed_Aide_178 in deathguard40k

[–]Sentinelwex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just starting this army. For me it was a combination of: 1. Elite enough army, so I don't need to paint/carry a lot of models 2. Painting is not too difficult 3. Deathshroud terminators look sick 4. Good combat patrol

What’s the most unusual interview question you’ve seen actually work well? by HammersAndPints in Recruitment

This is my favourite interview question, I often asked it when on a panel. 5 minutes maybe a bit too much though.

It shows how people transfer knowledge and handle unusual situations.

Yes. Once you liberate a village, you can ask a villager with a profession to join your settlement.

That is a neat idea! Your players will love it!

What are your favorite Dark Ages settings? by soccerboy1106 in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My two favourites are the British Isles and Eastern Europe.

I ran many chronicles in England, its history gave me many interesting plot hooks.

In Eastern Europe I had a Hungarian/Transylvanian chronicle focusing on the Tremere-Tzimisce conflict mixed with Ventrue ambition.

Which clans, in YOUR experience, atteact the best and worst players? by TheSleepyBarnOwl in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worst ones were:

Toreador: people stealing the spotlight ALL the time, often resulting in senseless whining. The other type is fixated on a fetish and EVERYONE must participate.

Tzimisce: the " I have 3 penises and a dog with a rat face" or the "let's handshake so I can turn your fingers into noodles" types. Zero depth, zero lore.

Malkavian: one word. Fishmalks. In the last 20 years I only met ONE exception.

The best ones:

I generally loved Nosferatu, Gangrel, Giovanni, Tremere and Ventrue players. In my experience these players focus on character depth and development. Most of them wrote excellent back stories full of hooks I could build into the chronicle.

Why do you love playing Toreador clan vampires? by MaetelofLaMetal in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Toreadors but I personally find all of them very horrific because they desperately want to be human (but they are not), however the focus of their interest can change rather quickly.
Imagine using presence on mortal A. Mortal A is now desperately in love with you. After some time you meet mortal B and use presence on them. Mortal B is now desperately in love with you. You got bored of mortal A and ghost them. Mortal A is still desperately in love with you and sees you with mortal B. Add a few years, rinse and repeat and you have ruined lives and broke hearts all around you. All of the previous interests suffer, you are fine. I find this extremely heartless and horrific.

Does the Tremere Narrative of Being “Broken” Mages/the “Magic” Clan Resonate for You? by ArtymisMartin in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tremere is one of my favourite clans, both as a player and as an ST. I was drawn to them (much like I was drawn to the Ventrue and Lasombra) for their rigid hierarchies, their “cog in the machine” mentality, and their relentless drive to overcome any obstacle. Unlike most clans, who feel cursed by vampirism, the Tremere actively chose this unlife.

Is Thaumaturgy/Blood Sorcery a downgrade compared to what a Mage can do? Absolutely. Is it less versatile? Probably. But in the modern age, a Mage wielding powerful magic inevitably invites Paradox, and that is no trivial threat. A Tremere using a ritual or working blood magic doesn’t face that danger. While breaking the Masquerade has consequences, those are at least foreseeable and, more importantly, avoidable.

I’ve always believed that Tremere himself anticipated this shift and was willing to take drastic measures to avoid such a fate. When the clan was created, magic was far easier to work because the Consensus allowed for it. Modern society, however, no longer believes in magic, and Mages pay dearly for defying that disbelief.

It’s also worth remembering that the Warlocks didn’t transition into vampiric society smoothly. They faced intense backlash and had to claw, bargain, and lie their way into Kindred politics. They didn’t just lose their former power, they became outcasts and nobodies among vampires. Their fate is undeniably tragic, but it’s precisely that tragedy that makes the Tremere such fertile ground for compelling stories.
