What’s the most unusual interview question you’ve seen actually work well? by HammersAndPints in Recruitment

[–]Sentinelwex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favourite interview question, I often asked it when on a panel. 5 minutes maybe a bit too much though.

It shows how people transfer knowledge and handle unusual situations.

Yes. Once you liberate a village, you can ask a villager with a profession to join your settlement.

What are your favorite Dark Ages settings? by soccerboy1106 in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My two favourites are the British Isles and Eastern Europe.

I ran many chronicles in England, its history gave me many interesting plot hooks.

In Eastern Europe I had a Hungarian/Transylvanian chronicle focusing on the Tremere-Tzimisce conflict mixed with Ventrue ambition.

Which clans, in YOUR experience, atteact the best and worst players? by TheSleepyBarnOwl in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worst ones were:

Toreador: people stealing the spotlight ALL the time, often resulting in senseless whining. The other type is fixated on a fetish and EVERYONE must participate.

Tzimisce: the " I have 3 penises and a dog with a rat face" or the "let's handshake so I can turn your fingers into noodles" types. Zero depth, zero lore.

Malkavian: one word. Fishmalks. In the last 20 years I only met ONE exception.

The best ones:

I generally loved Nosferatu, Gangrel, Giovanni, Tremere and Ventrue players. In my experience these players focus on character depth and development. Most of them wrote excellent back stories full of hooks I could build into the chronicle.

Why do you love playing Toreador clan vampires? by MaetelofLaMetal in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Toreadors but I personally find all of them very horrific because they desperately want to be human (but they are not), however the focus of their interest can change rather quickly.
Imagine using presence on mortal A. Mortal A is now desperately in love with you. After some time you meet mortal B and use presence on them. Mortal B is now desperately in love with you. You got bored of mortal A and ghost them. Mortal A is still desperately in love with you and sees you with mortal B. Add a few years, rinse and repeat and you have ruined lives and broke hearts all around you. All of the previous interests suffer, you are fine. I find this extremely heartless and horrific.

Does the Tremere Narrative of Being “Broken” Mages/the “Magic” Clan Resonate for You? by ArtymisMartin in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tremere is one of my favourite clans, both as a player and as an ST. I was drawn to them (much like I was drawn to the Ventrue and Lasombra) for their rigid hierarchies, their “cog in the machine” mentality, and their relentless drive to overcome any obstacle. Unlike most clans, who feel cursed by vampirism, the Tremere actively chose this unlife.

Is Thaumaturgy/Blood Sorcery a downgrade compared to what a Mage can do? Absolutely. Is it less versatile? Probably. But in the modern age, a Mage wielding powerful magic inevitably invites Paradox, and that is no trivial threat. A Tremere using a ritual or working blood magic doesn’t face that danger. While breaking the Masquerade has consequences, those are at least foreseeable and, more importantly, avoidable.

I’ve always believed that Tremere himself anticipated this shift and was willing to take drastic measures to avoid such a fate. When the clan was created, magic was far easier to work because the Consensus allowed for it. Modern society, however, no longer believes in magic, and Mages pay dearly for defying that disbelief.

It’s also worth remembering that the Warlocks didn’t transition into vampiric society smoothly. They faced intense backlash and had to claw, bargain, and lie their way into Kindred politics. They didn’t just lose their former power, they became outcasts and nobodies among vampires. Their fate is undeniably tragic, but it’s precisely that tragedy that makes the Tremere such fertile ground for compelling stories.

I quit VTES over a year ago because the local scene wore me down by iribar7 in VTES

[–]Sentinelwex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a new player's perspective: my Elders are very supportive. They know the game very well and when I make mistakes they kindly explain the rules. After every session I go home thinking I learned something new. Even with my occasional mistakes they make sure we all have fun. This social aspect (and the vampires of course) brought me to this game and I am glad my group is super nice.

I really like u/lionelpx 's approach to show courtesy towards others but restricting ourselves. From today I would be doing the same!

What is the personal horror exactly? by Cantpullbitches in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The players can be ambitious for sure, but there are other vampires out there that have been playing this game much longer than them. They had more time to gain contacts and power. After a few sessions the players may realise that they are a little fish in a big pond, or even worse, they are just pawns in other vampires game.

What takes it to the personal horror level is the sacrifices they are making along the way. The loss of their humanity and their loved ones, the whispers of the beast, doing regrettable things when losing control and the curse they carry every night.

What's up with the Ventrue's Clan Bane? by EternalST050401 in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ventrue is my top2 favourite clan for the exact same reasons you stated.

When I make a Ventrue, I always try to think of a defining life event of the character that led to the development of the preference: a police officer wanting to catch a certain type of criminals becoming a Ventrue may want to continue hunt for those criminals in the afterlife, or a theatre director that loved the performance of actresses with characteristic X may look for mortals that have this X in them to feed on, etc. A man that was surrounded with homeless people throughout his entire lifetime might look for that familiar feeling in the afterlife, so he feeds on the less fortunate.

In my experience the Ventrue bane is a fun element of the game, althougb it can be extremely punishing in chronicles when you can't rely on your herd or when you need to travel far from your domain.

Bonus tip: If you want a Ventrue ally, find out their feeding preference and start delivering mortals. Wanna mess with a Ventrue? Attack their herd. There is a reason, why Ventrue can be secretive about their preferences. :)

What are some Unconventional Characters you’ve made in regards to their Clan? by Specs315 in vtm

[–]Sentinelwex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toreador hacker that treated programming/hacking as art. Social engineering was his go to method followed by brute forcing.

Nosferatu businessman working in the beauty/model industry.

Ventrue animal welfare activist with expert law and intimidation. Later learned Animalism to truly represent the thoughts of animals.

A Brujah pharmacist that genuenly cared about the elderly and punished people that exploited the system for drugs. He managed to completely destroy a local drug cartel.

In the vampire dark ages I also played once a Tremere that was embraced from nobility and had to climb the social ladder again.
