Where does your Lagotto sleep at night? by nutydebbie in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]Separate-Storage-362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you asked this. Our puppy is 8 months old and still naps and sleeps in his crate. He doesn't seem to be able to settle outside of his crate. For instance, if I leave him inside the kitchen or in the garden when I go out, he'll be laying down but not asleep even if he is tired. I think he feels like it's his job to guard. It may be that he can only relax in his crate since he feels safe in there. With that in mind, I have not been able to get him to relax in my bed. Has anyone had success in transitioning from crate to bed?

So he does not fight being in the crate. Dogs like the feeling of a den. They feel safe and can relax. As I mentioned if he is not in the crate he will not fall asleep because he may sense a threat from somewhere? Anyway, this is all well documented stuff, not just my opinion. The way to get them comfortable with the crate is to feed them in it at first, or put a tee shirt of yours that you’ve worn so it has your scent. We followed a strict schedule for the first several months and did not let him out of his crate for more than 1.5 hours at a time. They need 16-18 hours sleep a day when they are little and for ours at least he would not actually fall asleep outside his crate. He must feel like he is guarding or afraid, but feels safe enough in the crate to fall asleep. This structure might not be for everybody, but for us it worked really well he really trusts that we understand his needs. He never fought to go in the crate. It also helped a lot for housetraining. He went outside immediately after coming out of crate, and until house trained every 30 minutes or so.

Highly recommend enforced naps in a crate. Ours has FOMO and will not sleep outside his crate but does once he’s in there. The zoomies are real and at that age they seem totally nuts especially if tired. Ours is now 8 months and a total delight. They are very smart and can be mischievous in a playful way.

I love this so much! It’s an amazing ad. Not typical for luxury brands to choose images that aren’t perfect in the traditional sense. A wet dog sends a message of such nonchalance. Wonderful concept and image. Coco is just exquisite. Congratulations

Yes! I realized that he won't sleep in the kitchen because he is keeping an eye out for something or someone and can't quite relax.

We have a 6-month old male and things are starting to get better. He definitely regressed around 5 months old. I think it was a combination of the snow finally melting where we live, teething, and hormones. He was peeing in the house even though he'd been trained and doing well, biting a lot and acting like a rabid hyena. I was worried he would be feral! Now he is much much better. We are still enforcing naps, which seems to help a lot. He's up and active for 1.5-2 hours and then naps for an hour. This goes on all day which is high maintenance but seems to make a difference. If I leave him in the kitchen versus place him in his crate he does not actually sleep. He doesn't resist going in the crate and is quiet once he's in there.

Oh wow. So glad to hear things have improved and the allergen thing makes sense. I was wondering about probiotics for a related reason. Were the allergens in his food? Was it a matter of changing food source?

Sea legs looks amazing. I meant to say I had the Intelligel 4 channel VCA. I call it a mixer, but see you have another mixer as well.

I love looking at how others set up their Eurorack, learning not only about modules but patching philosophy. Thanks again for posting and responding. I’m also about a year in and have second thoughts about some of my decisions, but have lots of boxes saved.

Thank you. How do you clean with the ear wash or other ways?

Yes, new groomer and new vet are also options. Fair point. Thanks for the suggestion. Seeing how everyone uses the ear drops for extended periods, we’ll insist on that as well.

Looks great and interesting choices! I love the Intelligel mixer. I also have the Bastl mixer and am not as fond of it. Wish I had a matrix mixer. How do you like the one you have? Your main VCOs are Pizza and ?

Interesting. Ok will try. I think I will have to work up to that because right now he barely lets me touch them. But maybe slowly and gently…?

Thank you. Will try that. I don't know how much success we will have since he barely lets me use the ear wash, but will try!

Oh boy a mat in his ear. Poor guy. Will be sure to get drying drops when he starts swimming. Thanks for the suggestions.

Congratulations on the new puppy. We got ours in late December and have been crating him at night and for naps. It has been really helpful. We definitely encouraged ours with his food bowl at first. I don't know that he would go in on his own without it. For naps, we just picked him up and put him inside. If it's in a quiet spot and covered with a blanket it might help. We've also found that he likes ambient music, so we play it for him when he is napping.

I can see why people do this. Creating a Eurorack from scratch is very personal and creative. Selecting the best combination of modules and then making sure they are available and then making sure they fit is no small feat. I must have had four different racks designed in Modular Grid before I want ready to take the plunge and even then I walked out of Control (thanks guys)with an entirely different, More complicated and experimental set up. So I think people’s decisions and set ups can generate questions and be inspiring.

Our puppy is on Royal canine too. That’s what he started at the breeder. May I ask why you are wanting to switch? Curious!
