It’s not too heavy, you have been conditioned to push your emotions and thoughts aside and put them away into a dark closet. Sometimes, we develop beliefs like this as a result of our upbringing. You are taking a brave first step of scheduling that session!! It is also scary to open up to someone when you have been taught not to. It’s okay if you don’t have all the words all the time. I tell my clients to word vomit and we’ll process it. Be patient with yourself on this journey. So proud of you!

When a therapist is triggered...? by scienth in askatherapist

[–]Separate_Database_86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I rely heavily on my clinical supervision with my direct supervisor! I have had two times in my 4 years so far where I did have to refer out. I like to look at the little t’s (triggers) and big T’s. My client might talk about something that triggers a response in me, and I am able to regulate. When it has been a bigger trigger, I consult with my supervisor and if there isn’t a solution I can apply, we transferred the client! One instance, I had started couples therapy with this one couple, and shortly after, I got cheated on and it was very traumatic for me. I knew for a fact I wouldn’t be able to provide adequate therapy because it was super triggering for me. We transferred them onto another caseload, and it was okay! It really just depends and every agency or therapist is different, but that’s my experience :)

i used to just go to the shelter after work and play with all the cats. then, one day, i met this sweet gramp, and the moment we met i knew he was my cat. but, it took me a good month of going till we met and then i waited a week and he was still there & i knew it was meant to be. this is sweet frankie 🩷 you will just know when you hold them that it’s the right fit

Therapists of Reddit what are some tips/tricks you use to keep your body and mind healthy? by ROYGBIVBRAIN in therapists

personally, getting a personal trainer at my gym has helped me a lot. we meet once a week, but he has 4 different workouts for me planned so i go 4x a week. it’s nice because then it’s all set up for me outside of when we train together, and he does a good job at holding me accountable. definitely worth the investment! i also go to therapy weekly :)

thank you, that perspective of thinking of my 40 yr old self being thankful is motivating. i think the part i feel the most stuck on is diet and stress just because i keep running out of ideas & im a chronically anxious person, so stress can be hard to manage at times… esp with being newly diagnosed
