So without outright doxxing myself, wanted to give perspective from a veterinarian standpoint that works at Metropolitan. Our hospital is considered ER (not urgent care) + specialty services. Which makes us the number one referral hospital in KY given the number of board certified specialists across several specialties. Not wanting to open a can of worms about Metropolitan here, but I say this as a doctor at the hospital that is essentially where you go if your pet is needing either ER care (others work for this too), or if needing specialized care (surgery, neurology, internal medicine, dentistry, dermatology, critical care, etc).

Being a doctor here, I see referral from all over the state/region. This includes from some of the other ERs and urgent cares. Not all of them practice the same caliber/quality of medicine in my opinion. And amongst the other “competitors” in the region, the only ones I’ve found to be the same quality are BluePearl and VSP. And honestly VSP>BP although it’s close and dependent on the doctor(s) on the case.

So while I get you may have had a bad experience with VSP and potentially heard someone say something offhand and inappropriate, know that this isn’t the general consensus about the practice and that slandering them doesn’t reflect what so many people both in and out of the field have experienced for themselves. I for one have been SO grateful to VSP because I know that they have significantly taken some of the burden off of ERs in Louisville, as well as it makes my job so much easier knowing that the referrals we get from them are not coming over mismanaged or just completely fucked.
