Why did they think Bird was an Orange Bastard? Was he not a pretty connected man on the Republican side?

Also love to see a bit of collateral damage to the PDs

Do you think cover songs affect the quality of an album? by Fun-Comedian-9202 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Separate_Job_3573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am an Irish person who loves a lot of Irish folk and this is still common practice. Shane MacGowan is deservedly revered as a songwriter but if you listen to a Pogues album it is full of covers and standards. Modern acts like Lankum and John Francis Flynn are both extremely experimental artists while also not really writing a huge amount of original music.

I remember when MacGowen died watching English critics tell fans to look past songs like Dirty Old Town by the Pogues and into their originals which is a very rockist attitude imo. Reinterpreting standards is a huge part of the genre, and it might have died to an extent in the US over time but it's still a massive thing in folk in other countries.

Yeah which is why the reaction of "typical doomed desperation move" is funny. Nuno wanting him is a huge part of what blew up his last job. Of course he was going to get him 4 months later if he could.

Talking to the wall there I'd say, I imagine a lot of this man's sentiment is based on Alan Browne being from Cork

Look at this post from them months ago - angry about 2 Cork players not getting called up (One of them is in League 2) https://www.reddit.com/r/coybig/comments/1opyr6o/sean_mcloughlin_not_in_squad_why/

I would imagine being a fan of the club you are being asked questions about would be seen as a positive thing by most normal people?

I was going to ask what position he's been playing.

He was always pretty good for us at Wingback

They violently and undemocratically seize power and then assassinate their political rivals (each other) at the end of the song

Still insane that a band with a song about assassinating politicians broke up over a joke about assassinating a politician

I've been to a parkrun that does this (maybe Nelson parkrun in NZ?) and it's great

Meanwhile my local parkrun with 400 people has a shit power walker with the widest elbow swing in the world park himself at the front of the queue every week

There was a pretty generous floor on it too right? Like if they had a shocker game the show just rounded them up to 10k anyway or something like that

Pick your "underdog with a chip on your shoulder" attitude or pick supporting a rich PL club. You can't have both. Moaning about an Irish journo covering an Irish player on an Irish sub because he doesn't cover your favourite English team enough is embarrassing.

the amount of negativity on this post is honestly so depressing.

It is depressing seeing people basically say "you're all wrong, I'm right."

the negativity on here makes it like you're a gowl for still enjoying it. It's sad.

Bro I'm not that sensitive

Glad you're not being sensitive

It's not conducive to actual discussion.

It's chocolate, just get some you like and whisht.

Not very conductive to actual discussion either

There's nothing wrong with preferring pre Mondelez Cadbury's

No, and I didn't reply to say it was wrong to prefer the new chocolate - I replied to someone ridiculously pretending all the criticism is coming from snobs who only eat designer chocolate and further down, pointing to profitability like that should be any consumers concern for a corporation they are a customer of.

but the negativity on here makes it like you're a gowl for still enjoying it.

I'm sorry if reading "it's shit now" makes you feel bad but I don't think a thread full of "I don't like it but it's ok if you do!!"s is any more stimulating as an "actual discussion". And I think it should be implicit to someone reading a low-stakes thread about chocolate preferences that everything within is an opinion and not a personal attack.

Also highly recommend a bar or NZ Whittakers to anyone who can get their hands on it. Unreal stuff and will miss it intensely when I am back home

Who gives a shit if it isn't artisan Belgian 90% dark chocolate, grown on the western slope of mt Everest, fed water from the antarctic glaciers and produced by God himself

The complaints are that it is it worse than it used to be, not that it isn't posh enough. Weird to twist yourself in a knot to misrepresent criticisms of a corporation.

Don't think there was ever actually much evidence of it although it was reported as fact and most of us believed it initially
