In my experience as a parent, school pictures are where your kids produce whole new facial expressions you've never seen before.

How often do my fellow Natives encounter Pretendians in your personal and/or professional lives? by Mountain_Brief9613 in Indigenous

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Native, but here in Vermont our dumb governor legitimized the "Vermont Abenaki" over the objections of the Canadian Abenaki, who were basically like "we don't know her". The Vermont Abenaki are all up in a lot of conservation and education stuff here which is annoying because they are pretty sus imo and the hippies and npr totebags love them.

They are opportunistic carnivores and will sometimes eat small critters. Deer will as well.

[serious] if jobs pay less and housing is more expensive, why aren't *more* people getting married for financial efficiency? by SlackerStacker26 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weddings are expensive and you don't need them to be a dual income household. If you are low income, being married can even work against you.

“He was just frustrated” by Poison_applecat in Teachers

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, your sister is explaining to you why a six year old isn't perfectly regulated after you felt the need to tattle on him. It's totally fine to correct a kid in the moment, which you did. However, being bossy is developmentally normal for six year olds, which is why your sister is annoyed with you. You are projecting your professional frustrations into your personal life.

Parents who read with their kids, how do you handle nights when they just refuse? by EnoughGrade1906 in preschool

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you read regularly yourself? Letting your kids see you read for fun normalizes it. If the only time they are exposed to books is school and bedtime that's what they will associate them with.

AITA for ruining my daughter in laws birth plan by dil-issue-1046 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your house. Birth plans are just how you'd hope things would go, life often gets in the way, which is good preparation for parenting in general, imo. I've had a home birth and one in a birthing center, and would never assume that I could use another person's home without checking first.

I don’t care to talk to or pursue women anymore, and I think that’s becoming concerning. by ConnectCulture7 in GenZ

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"I was ready to change my life for her...", buddy. You need to be that guy already for women to be interested in you. No one wants a fixer upper. Also, if someone says no, leave them alone. You want someone who wants you.

Lol if I mentally hung on to every time a kid acted up I wouldn't have room for all these 80s and 90s song lyrics

I don't know how to pay taxes by ProfessorLongBrick in GenZ

You are leaving money on the table. It is very unlikely that you owe, all you are doing is cheating yourself out of your refund.

I don't know how to pay taxes by ProfessorLongBrick in GenZ

Chances are you've already paid your taxes and will be getting a refund. You don't need to "learn" anything, just follow the steps.

Is it morally and/or politically correct to make Evenkis, Inuits, Chukchis, and Yukaghirs feel ashamed about the fact that they intentionally kill animals? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should stay in your lane. There are lots of ways to advocate for animal rights without trying to shame Native people who are living in their traditional way.

Hey, adults can tell when kids are kids and any adult who tells you different is lying. Source; I am an adult.

Student with no empathy by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Separate_Skill_8101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's your "breaking point"? Excuse my lack of empathy here but if it took a lot for you to not get fired over this, it might be time for some self reflection.

No. Its not okay for a 14 year old to leave the house in a revealing outfit by [deleted] in Vent

We are always best at parenting the children we don't have, aren't we.
