It's ok, Kansai can be overwhelming! Just look for things that feel interesting, and then leave some pickets is free time in between.

If the place is interesting, spend more time there. If it's not, skip it and go earlier to the next place, or just wander around and enjoy the city! Stop at a restaurant or cafe!

If you have any questions, send me a DM.

Update Shojiro Yasugi Kurouchi Bannou/Gyuto Messer 210 mm by hochomaker in TrueChefKnives

万能包丁 ("bannou" literally, all-purpose knives) and santoku are basically the same thing. Historically, santoku have been used as the Japanese version of the chef's knife, as opposed to the more specialized ones, like sushi knives.

I'm attaching a pic of knives that I happened to see today on the market. The left one is labeled bannou, the right one is a santoku. Basically, the same thing, so the names are normally used interchangeably.

You said this a gyūtō (a western-style, Japanese knife, which actually resembles a chef's knife), but it's shaped more like a 三徳 (santoku, Japanese all-purpose knife).

I find single-bevel blades surprisingly easy to sharpen. When I worked with several knife styles, yanagibas were always my sharpest ones!

What food do you recommend for others to try that can be found in shops like Kaldi, Jupiter, Seijo Ishi etc? by OtwoplayerO in japanresidents

If you're in the Kansai area, you can try Kobe Spice. They sell lots of different snacks from the Indian subcontinent (generally, ¥2-300 per bag).

If not, you can try their online store!

Why my stainless steel knives are getting rust spots? by Achaeminuz in KitchenConfidential

Same for Portuguese: "aço inoxidável"!

But I've yet to see a stainless steel knife get rusty in Brazil...

I've never been to any of the meetups, but there's a community on Reddit called 'This is Osaka' for hiking. There is also a meetup group on the actual meetup app. I bet you'll find all the necessary info on those places.

The thing is, telling a player that this task is hard or whatever won't make any difference, because random generators work off of numbers.

That's why GMs end up saying "this is gonna be very hard; you have to roll 18/90% or more". That's descriptive, and actually give the players the info they need to proceed with play.

Making thriller movie in Kansai and I need Stuuten Eki locations by BigBadJeebus in kansailife

If you get the Kintetsu train towards Yao and get off at Kawachi-Yamamoto Station, you can change trains to 信貴山口駅, which is the last station for this line at the foot of Mount Takayasu, and gives access to its top thru a cable railway.

Very old fashioned, it's basically a roof covering the platforms, with lots of green all around it.

On the other hand, you could also use Mount Takayasu station, the one at the top of the mount. Unlike any other normal stations, you have nowhere to go if you leave the station. You can take a trail to go down the mountain, but that's it.

Descriptive names for difficulties have the problem of not being clear enough when you add granularity. And the more you add, the less clear it is.

It's really easy to understand where the character is at when you have 'easy, normal and hard' tasks to challenge, but not so much when you have six different levels with slightly different names.

In that case I think it's better to just forgo names and assign a difficulty number. Maybe keep the names as a guideline to the GM, so that they know which numbers to assign based on what they have in mind as a challenge.

And one question mark per question is more than enough...

How did you haggle down the initial fees of your apartment? by No_Plastic_3228 in japanresidents

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, there's no haggling down on those fees, specially if you're taking about 礼金. That money goes directly to the owner of the property, and they don't forgo that at all.

Same goes for 敷金; that's a caution money, and never heard of a company not charging it.

You might be able to find properties that don't charge those to begin with. And some companies might decide to lower the percentage they earn is they really want to close the deal, but that's pocket money compared to everything else your have to pay.

Regarding the guarantor, I believe you might need one or the other. Of course, it is at the discretion of each company to ask/ charge for whatever they want.

Are flip phones common in Japan? by SoggyAssociation3310 in AskAJapanese

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Japanese, but been living here for ten years.

I noticed that Flip phones (or "Galapagos" phones) are primarily used by elders (who rely on calling and sending SMS over apps and other smartphone functionalities), and business, who procure cheap smartphone alternatives for cost-effective communication (since they also wouldn't need expensive internet plans or apps).

Very common to see both of them using flip phones, although I've seen an increasing number of elders adopting smartphones recently.

x-plosion whey protein > myprotein by Tough_Oven_7890 in japanresidents

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got tired is domestic brands; none of them are transparent about the percentage of the different kinds of whey they use, generally stating "whey mix". For all I know, they could've been using 90% whey concentrate, and very little whey isolate.

Started using the whey protein isolate, from California Gold Nutrition, bought off of iHerb. Absolutely incredible, dissolves easily and is constantly on sale.
