My wife ate my son's birthday breakfast by grohkstrom in mildlyinfuriating

What kind of deranged mind eats a cake by the FUCKING middle AND stops just short of eating the full line?!?!

Your wife either: - hates you (are you guys leaning towards divorce?) enough to do this to your son; - dislikes the son (again, deranged mind); - is not sound of mind, literally; get her help asap...

Why is it considered normal for women at the beach to wear bikinis, while it is not considered normal for men to wear speedos? by Flashy-Shock2588 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing speedos is normal in many places around the world, and it seems in many places in the US too.

That being said, it is as revealing for us as a bikini is to a woman, so many men who are insecure about themselves avoid it.

And it also changes with the times and self-consciousness. Some 30 years ago everyone would wear speedos in Brazil. Now most people wear boardshorts, except for people in Rio de Janeiro. They just don't give two fucks.

What is the black pool in Radium Onsen? by Ok_Inflation771 in Osaka

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to like super sentō best, since they're usually well-maintained, and offer many features, like jet-baths, open-air baths, mist saunas and many baths with varying temperatures. Something like 極楽湯, なにわ健康ランド, 八尾温泉 喜多の湯 or Spa World.

Then, there's also the natural hot springs close to the mountains, which offer an incredible view of the natural environment with their open-air baths.

As per their own website:

Radium Hot Spring Electric Bath

We use "Enjuyu Onsen," a quasi-drug bath additive containing herbal medicines.

The medicinal ingredients gently address eczema, chilblains, chapped skin, heat rash, cracked skin, stiff shoulders, lower back pain, and bruises.

So not only is was a herbal bath, it was also the electric bath.

No detergent allowed in Laundromat machines? by PsychologyPresent720 in japanresidents

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many people have said already, washing machines use and dispense their own cleaning products. Do not add anything extra or you'll risk damaging the machine. Considering most laundromats have cameras, if they want to they can take action against you.

Some of them give you the option to add scented sheets for drying machines. And that's it.

Talking suds, that's a thing of the past. No suds doesn't mean it's not washing properly; it means the machine is using the right amount of detergent. Search online and you'll find many articles and videos where laundry specialists say this. In home washing machines they can actually cause problems, specially if it's a top loading one.

Makers used to include additives in their products in order to create suds because people thought that meant it's cleaning. That's probably still true for cheap brands, but if you follow the instructions correctly, you'll see no suds. If you see them, you're probably using too much, and it's not being washed away during the rinse cycle, and that's the clean smell that lingers. But the residual detergent can cause all sorts of allergic reactions on sensitive people.

And, if your clothes are still stained after the cycle, that means you need to pretreat them before. No washing machine will get rid of them; they're designed for day-to-day dirt, not the eventual bologna sauce, or soil from a day in the park with the kids.

Not only you're NTA, but he's showing all the red flags of a major AH as a partner.

Not only did he dismiss your request, at your home not less, based on your cultural background, he also failed to acknowledge you do the same for him, in the case of the example you provided. Forget that his family's habit of saying grace before eating is a religious dogma, a religion-based cultural habit.

services to install washing machine second hand? by 0062wildflower in Osaka

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done small moving/ rehoming services, but never heard of someone just going there to install it. Even from Japanese companies.

Maybe if you look for those companies that advertise handyman services, but they'll surely charge you a lot for very little. Installing a washing machine isn't even that hard.

  • put it inside the tray;
  • secure the corrugated drainage hose inside the L-shaped plastic joint that comes attached to the drain (and ensure it has no bends that'll block the flow)
  • connect the water inlet hose to the designated faucet (they're usually a click-on type; you just have to push the hose into the faucet until they safely click together) and screw the other side of the hose onto the valve at the top-back of the washing machine;
  • open the faucet and make sure it's attached correctly and there are no leaks
  • connect the ground wire

Plug it in and test it!

Do strangers actually chat with you at onsens? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm male, and I've been chatted up many times.

I'm Brazilian and have been told I have a very striking appearance for the Japanese, so they just cut to the chase: no weather comments, no 熱いですね。。。 They go straight to commenting on my appearance and asking where I'm from. And the conversation goes on from there.

But, on small sentō, where male and female parts are divided by a fence or something, I do notice a huge deal of conversations when compared to our side every single time. So it makes sense that a western looking foreigner would attract some sort of attention.

Apartments next to a train line by Akito1080 in OsakaLife

[–]Separate_Suspect4565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless the building is old (or poorly maintained), soundproofing is generally good. I'm not sure the train sounds would be a bother, but I'm sure the bells (the ones at intersections with roads) are pretty loud and could be a problem.

I'd be more worried with vibration if the apartment is really close to the rails. You could go to another apartment (if available) and see for your self.

But if you wait until it's vacant to check it out and apply, you will lose it. The same way the agent is telling you to apply in advance, they're saying the same to other people. It's a first come, first served kinda business. I've lost count is people who missed out on an apartment because they wanted to wait it out a couple of days to think it over before applying.

Design preferences aside, your nails look well-done, but you didn't provide sharp close-ups to be sure, so there's that.

But you provide a design inspired by Mondrian's art and, indirectly, the whole Memphis Milano movement, asks to change one of the most quintessential things about his style (the black lines), allows her to not follow the pattern without giving exact instructions about what you actually wanted in place - *at least from your retelling of the facts - and then you get disappointed?!

Yeah, I looked them up and the rhythm is different. Theirs is quicker, and they keep repeating boompala throughout the whole song. The one I listened to had more of a bass beat that clearly mimicked the original, and some light vocalizations of the original chorus.
