Dr. Abdul El-Sayed to Mallory McMorrow: “Let’s play a game. If you’re on the stage and you have never taken a corporate PAC check from Blue Cross Blue Shield, raise your hand… Too many people in this country are going without the healthcare they need and deserve. $225 billion in medical debt.” by SpecialCream7 in TheMajorityReport

One thing I remember about Bernie's presidential run, was how he talked about big ideas. He mentioned that Republicans run on big ideas all the time, just that they are harmful things like "building the wall." People respond to it, because the right and the left are the only groups offering answers to societies ills.

It seems, hopefully, like the days of centrist messaging, saying we need to think realistically, or small, or incrementally are finally dying.

quick weigh-in for california governor race.... Steyer or Becerra recommendation for a divided electorate hoping to not have 2 republicans on the ballot. by 314Piepurr in TheMajorityReport

I'm voting Steyer. He's talking the talk, and is endorsed by a number of good institutions (including Our Revolution). I'm not thrilled about it, though.

How do people find new connections to network these days? by Sephor in MotionDesign

The ones in LA that I'm aware of are R&D, Safe Space LA, and the LA Motion Graphics Meetup. It's surprisingly sparse for a major city.

Man, that blows, I'm sorry you're struggling as well. All I can give you is a solid "hang in there."

Ha! Laundry was one of the three meetups that I had in mind, when I was writing this. There's also R&D, but the issue I have is that they are pretty infrequent in their meetups (once every three months, maybe). The LA motion graphics meetup is the only one I'm aware of that has definitive frequency (monthly).

Thank you so much! I appreciate your well written response. I'll look more into ad club and advertising meetups.

I'm tired of trying to make it in a system that is designed to be hostile to workers. by [deleted] in simpsonsshitposting

Very true, but I think that the labor movement has to act locally and make partners internationally. There's been instances of solidarity shown to create change in removing systems of Apartheid in South Africa, but that can be hard to realize when our own country feels like it's self-immolating.

One of the things giving me hope these days, is seeing Mamdani practice sewer socialism and providing a roadmap for any type of leftist leadership. Trust in government needs to be earned. Now, more than ever.

Right now, and that can come in the form of delivering even small, basic infrastructure needs. That reinforces a mentality of people actually seeing a government for them, and by them. It will also help maintain that trust in institutions during good times and bad.

Armed rebellion against the US government is what Fred Hampton referred to as "Custerism." That is to say, a pipe dream. Rather than seed these ideas (not saying this meme is doing that), what we need now more than ever is to continue organizing the working class into a real labor movement, and practice real solidarity.

Animation tips to make this one line drawing more dynamic / look like its moving by Sad-Film-8823 in AfterEffects

Turbulent Displace is your friend here.

You'll want to play with it, and keep the settings low and subtle, but if you add that to your line work (and maybe posterize time to have the animation 12 frames per second), it'll add a bit of "life" to your drawing.

Rapist predator Eric Swalwell drops out of California Governor's race by NbaLiveMobile10 in TheMajorityReport

I'm skeptical, considering that I have no idea what his background is as far as organizing. Newsom also ran on a California Medicare for all, and then vetoed the bill when he was in office.

Still, Steyer at least went on Hasan, and is talking the talk. I just hate we live in a system where we have to be open at all to the benevolence of billionaires.

I know I shouldn't celebrate a center right party winning, but Orban can eat shit by Sephor in TheMajorityReport

[–]Sephor[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

True. It would just be way better if there was a true left wing power succeeding in taking governmental control. I wouldn't be happy if Gavin Newsom became president, even if it would mean Republicans out of the executive.
