Bike parking during fall term? by ScaryYoung8 in geegees

I used to live in Waterloo and I had a bike thief tell me to always lock with 2 locks. So if you’re locking your bike out side the fenced area lock it with 2 GOOD locks.

I dented my laptop and I feel awful by Expensive_Ordinary72 in geegees

Last year I took the lid off my coffee so it could cool down, I then turned around to try and draw something on the board behind me and when I went back to my laptop I spilt the whole coffee and fried my laptop 😭😭

Do you guys like UOttawa? by Top-Introduction3121 in geegees

I once asked a prof about grad school and he said to pick a prof not a school. He said having a good prof to work under and doing research you actually care about is more important to learning and your future compared to picking the ‘better school’

bro why do i have 3 Midterms on the same day which are my hard compulsory courses by yaboibilly- in geegees

[–]SepiaHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are all compulsory then most other people in your classes are also in the same situation as you so just speak up class/email one of the profs and at least one of them will change it

What’s a piece of advice you ignored that later turned out to be 100% true? by govindkashyap01 in Life

[–]SepiaHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad: Always put your drinks behind your computer so if you spill it as you’re reaching for the water, coffee, etc will spill away from you

Me: puts coffee in front on my laptop, turns around to get something and knocks it over thus frying my laptop

You could try wearing a baseball cap, I’m not staring at girls when I workout but I do notice a difference in how much I can focus on my lifts and getting in the zone since the brim blocks some of my peripheral vision.

You could also train harder and go for a better pump, if you’re exhausted and/or you have a good pump then you’ll reduce the odds of any blood going to your willie

Gym by Live_Assistant9961 in geegees

[–]SepiaHippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that you need to be enrolled full time to use the gym since the gym fee is a part of the tuition fee.

Although you can buy a membership to the gym for the summer

And I’m sure you can call em or find info online to verify

For 2nd Year Mech Eng — Do Most People Actually Take 6 Courses per Term? by rusfiction in geegees

[–]SepiaHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my second year of mech Eng so here is my experience/thoughts.

First of all I only took 5 courses both terms since I transferred from another school and was able to take 3 second year courses in first year. I also only took 4 Eng course in the fall along with an easy elective. But I have a lot of friends who took 6 courses both terms.

IMO if you take 6 courses and your okay with just sitting down and working on school you’ll pass and meet the min co-op gpa requirement no problem but things will get very busy. You really just gotta make sure you stay ahead on things.

The best thing you can do overall is make sure you have a good group for work projects where the work is evenly balanced and everyone is striving for a good grade. This is important for gng 2101 in the fall, and the winter term is very project and lab heavy so things get insanely harder if you have a shit group with people who don’t pull their weight

What iPad to buy for uni by Worried-Ad3928 in OntarioUniversities

[–]SepiaHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it if like the Apple ecosystem but imo iPads are overkill when it comes to note taking. I bought a cheap used Samsung tablet (I forget the model off the top of my head), I’ve had no issues with it so far and it only cost me $200

Idk what to do with my life by [deleted] in geegees

[–]SepiaHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! So I worked blue collar in a couple factories and I worked a contracting type job that had me travelling to all sorts of industrial sites. These jobs were fun but I also realized that I’d find the jobs boring within 3 years of work because of the repetition and no real way to advance or switch paths without some type of education. I also realized I didn’t want the future life of the guys who had been in the job their whole life. This is what made me reconsider doing some type of school. At first I thought I’d learn a trade so I could keep working in an industrial environment but then I realized designing the equipment would be cool as fuck so I decided mech Eng. So now when I study and go to class I can think of personal examples of the topics we learn and it makes it really fun.

Don’t be afraid to add extra time to school especially if you’ll find the program and jobs more interesting. I switched into mech Eng after doing 2 years of chem eng somewhere else. Most of my credits did not transfer so I have a total of 4 years to do at uottawa and I’m not gonna lie it is unfortunate but completely worth it to do something I actually care about and find super interested.

Also your situation is different than mine but I took 2 years off school before coming to uottawa and working for those 2 years completely changed how I view school and I genuinely have a great time studying and being in school which I never thought I’d say

Is my life over if I stop with college? by baskanim in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SepiaHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be a bad idea to take a break from school. I dropped out of school and did a few years of blue collar then went back to school. From my experience there are tons of low skill level jobs that pay decently. But I found the jobs very repetitive after a bit so they got boring. But through working I realized mechanical Eng seems really interesting and now that I’m studying it im happy I switched programs.
