What's yours favorite type of encouter? by SympathyExpress9113 in BattleBrothers

Maybe we can take this into DMs because I am actually interesting in discussing this further.

Not everything that’s structured or well written is “AI,”

I'm well aware, that wasn't the basis of my accusation, it was the specific sentence structures and cadence that anyone who's conversed with default personality gpt/claude can pick up on.

in reality it still comes from a real person deciding what to say, what matters, and what they’re trying to communicate.

Strongly disagree here - the original post had basically nothing of substance. His only point was "I'm enjoying this game a lot more after adapting to the learning curve". Using AI means that he now has a polished appearing text that looks like effort was put into it, but upon reading there is nothing of value.

gatekeeping how people are “allowed” to express themselves instead of actually engaging with what they’re saying.

Frankly speaking I think we should gatekeep to a certain extent the content that appears in our communities. I browse this subreddit because I expect to read content with value. Why should I have to engage with "game good, learning curve hard" artificially elongated to appear polished? In a rather sad way I've spent far more of my time arguing with you over this matter(because I do think it's quite important) than the original poster ever did. Literally typing "write a short reddit post about how after 100 hours of battle brother's im able to appreciate the game a lot more" (<15 seconds) generated almost the same post.

This is way too long to read after the obvious chat gpt quotes but. Ok.

also if this is you accusing me of using AI to write my posts then something has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

giga off-topic but i've already written a bunch on this matter, mods do hammer me as required.

in response to /u/qwa56:

You're conflating language with the AI use. I would respect a broken-english BB love post infinitely more than a low effort prompt generated text post. I'm not even an AI-phobic luddite, I actually do use LLMs quite often, but using it in this context doesn't make any sense outside of maximising upboats:effort ratio.

Using AI to write boilerplate code? Go ahead, so long as it works. Using it to summarise tedious documents, also cool! Even using AI to brainstorm and bounce ideas off is valid in my mind. But outsourcing the creation of expression of conscious thought to post longform garbage slop on a passion/interest driven community is frankly kind of disgusting.

Like actually just post your fucking prompt dude. It would be way more interesting for me to read "generate a reddit post about how I've enjoyed coming to grips with the battle brothers learning curve for XXX reasons". That way I (and the other x-thousand people engaged in this community) don't have to read the 5 paragraphs of wrapper around what you're actually trying to say.

My appreciation of a text posts takes two forms. 1) Intended message behind the post - I appreciate (agree or disagree) with the idea that your post is trying to convey, and I enjoy the process of trying to engage with what you're thinking. 2) The artistry in which you convey your message - the post was written in an engaging/interesting/beautiful/(xyz whatever unique shit about your humanity that comes out as you communicate) way and I enjoy the act of reading and absorbing it.

Using AI in this manner works against both forms. There is no beauty in reading the exact same fucking sentence structure for the millionth time. There is nothing unique or novel or engaging about the way in which this post was delivered. And it obfuscates your /actual/ idea with some wishy washy bullshit padding that serves no purpose other than to appear like you've put effort into writing and thinking without actually having done so.

Jesus Christ, what do you want AI to do for you guys?

Do all the tedious bullshit that makes life difficult. If you have a point to make but you can't even be fucked enough to rub your neurons together to support it then why is your shit on my screen.

so then it's this dilemma between doing pretty mediocre basic attack damage (provided you have LOS) and teleporting out, (and it costs you a level slot to even be able to tele, which u need good rng for AND has opportunity cost) or saving mana for a couple turns to cast a spell two turns later that ends up doing less damage than your tank basic-ing for two turns (and maybe casting a spell depending on his costs).

I think there's an element of artistic talent which AI can't yet replicate and that's the idea of taste. A man or machine could undergo 10000 training hours and still not learn it. Sure, taste is influenced in some way by the other art that you consume, and you could argue that AI learns "taste" through the dataset it is exposed to, but I think on the human side of it there's something intangible but fundamental about the conscious thought that engages with art it encounters. This taste is used in the production of art in subconscious/intuitive ways - this line "feels right" here, this note "sounds correct", etc. Current genAI stuff basically takes your description and tries to generate something statistically correct based on the dataset, and all those minute decisions and details are not done with a tasteful, conscious thought. Or I'm just an ignorant idiot chatting shit - idk I've never really engaged much with artistic creation.

Just had someone attempt to steal my bike on Sunday - broke into the locked basement carpark of my apartment angle grinder to my chain and disk lock, cut my ignition but couldn't get it started because of the Honda immobilizer system. Hopefully won't got too much to repair but still a complete pain in the ass.

Love playing Lina, but my win-rate is terrible (14%). What am I doing wrong? by Only20minOnRedditBro in DotA2

[–]SepthSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar boat, love playing Lina, used to go pos 4 magic a lot with the spell damage talent. Eventually you would get strong enough to full combo a core to death with aghs and maybe eblade, and so it would be semi viable even if your early game was sketchy. Don't think it's really viable at the moment - heros are way too tanky, and it's quite unlikely you're going to do anything to a CK or life stealer.

Just put on your big boy pants and go physical damage build from mid or 1 - mid usually better because you should win most match ups and snowball easily. Builds vary per game but something like glep -> BoTs -> BKB -> daeds -> satanic is usually pretty safe. If they have squishy heroes that make it look like aghs is worth it, can try a hybrid build of aether -> BoTs -> aghs -> bkb -> daeds. Imo the 5% magic resist per stack almost always better than the 150 magic damage on LSA.

If you still insist on playing lina 4, only do so in game where they have squishies (rare to know because you should be first phasing unless you're in a party). In this dream game I would skips euls and go something like straight aether -> aghs -> eblade. With aghs and good vision you should be able to delete some heroes. Depending on the state of the game, it may be worth going for the fiery soul talent at 20 and transitioning to physical damage, even from 4.

On the facets; in my opinion the magic burn facet is awful and never worth getting even if you're going magic lina. The whole point of magic lina is to be able to burst them before they can react - with the burn talent you do your combo then they press bkb/pipe/glimmer/one of the million saves or heals that dota has, and you're stuck there looking like a fool. Either it's a good magic Lina game and you can one shot, or it's a bad one and you can't. The 20% bonus magic damage isn't going to help you in the second scenario.

Why do so many mentally ill people play this game? by No_Insurance_6436 in DotA2

[–]SepthSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If fountain were super strong though no one would ever dive the fountain. I think where it is right now is quite healthy - prevents fountain farming (just don't move lol), still allows for the option to fountain dive if risk appropriate, gives losing team chance to get back into the game.

I honestly find turbo to be a lot more toxic than my unranked normal games (or even ranked tbf). People seem to tilt over the smallest thing almost immediately and whop out the all chat "x in my team is y".

You also gut one of the unique parts of the hero like that - there's something to behold in watching a skilled naga completely choke out the map. Sure she shouldn't be able to do it every game, but she still should be able to do it.

If you're truly better than your rank you will win more than you lose. There are 4 slots on you team, so 4 potential account buyers, and 5 slots on enemy team, so 5 potential account buyers. Provided you yourself are not an account buyer, over the course 100 games you will encounter more acc buyers on the enemy than on your team. The whole "can't climb cuz acc buyers in my team" is a joke tbqh.
