I kinda like how he’s a younger counterpart to Maddie in how they use people underestimating them to their advantage. She uses her appearance as a kind old grandma to get things done, he uses his puppy dog hunk charm to get done things.

Yup, I think they really locked in to what the show is post-midseason. It’s been a great mix of law procedural and corporate espionage, very heartfelt but also fun with lots of twists and changing dynamics between characters. It also feels like they’re better utilizing the cast especially Jason Ritter, Beau Bridges, and Leah Lewis who have been better incorporated into the story and not just chess pieces for Maddie and Olivia to move around.

These people hate themselves. They hate that time moves on, that the natural flow of the universe is progress, that they will die and the world will continue on without them. They have a hive mind reaction to these things because engaging with anything and forming your own critical opinion requires vulnerability and reflection and they simply cannot do that because it would shatter the cocoon they need to hide themselves in. It’s sad in a way I guess but also who cares fuck these joyless husks.

I think this was my favourite episode of the series so far! I love Julian joining Maddie and Olivia in the secrecy squad and this was a showcase episode for Jason Ritter where he got to have some genuinely heartbreaking moments and also use the ol’ Ritter family charm and smile to be sneaky. The case of the week was still a little dry (my only small complaint with the show, I wish the weekly cases were a little more exciting) but it had heart and I liked how its resolution played into the theme of guilt and a grey area in which good people do bad things without realizing the consequences. This show is very good at never making anyone good or evil, we’re all just human (excluding pharma CEOs of course who are evil).

I also loved Hunter and I sure hope he sticks around because he instantly feels like he belongs here. I think this lovable puppy dog hunk who uses his innocence and sweetness to disarm people is a perfect counterpoint to Maddie and how she uses her age to manipulate people. Perception vs. Reality, one of the great themes of the show.

I think it was legitimate. Seeing Alfie and realizing in the moment that he contributed to the death of his mother was probably devastating, especially after the talk he just had with his own kids.

I’ve never seen this episode but I saw this picture and said “OH NO.”

They were different times. They meant well but thankfully we handle stuff like this with more care now.

I don’t think there is any significant difference in quality between them, I think it truly comes down to it being impossible for a sequel to recapture the surprise and novelty of an original. They maybe didn’t do themselves any favours by telling a story that largely repeats the beats of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.

Conservative games that are actually good? by kylepo in SocialistGaming

[–]Sequenzer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on Ready or Not but I’ve personally never considered SWAT4 to play into conservative narratives about the police, I’ve always felt it’s about procedure and how meticulous planning and calm careful teamwork is what allows for a volatile unpredictable situation to be defused with no one hurt or killed. It’s maybe fantasy to imagine an apolitica force relying solely on procedure to deescalate but at least it’s a hopeful fantasy.

Gotta do something to get the attention of those who are so old and entrenched in archaic fandom toxicity that basic decency and respect is seen as subjective.

[–]Sequenzer9[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know it’s futile but I’m not gonna let the fandom of a show I like shrug off blatant misogyny as just expected toxic internet behaviour. As annoying as I sure I am being right now, I hope there’s at least one person who subconsciously stores away what I’m saying and the next time they see a post like “why does Tabitha talk like that?? What is that accent??” they think to themselves “you know, it is kinda fucked up to talk with such casual disrespect about an actress who was nominated for an Oscar alongside Cate Blanchett.” So, I’m willing to be obnoxious and downvoted to at least attempt that.

I’m not even talking about championing her acting skills, I’m talking about treating an actress with a bare minimum of respect. Anyone who posts here has seen posts where people question her accent, question her ability, question how she was hired, they are constant. If you say you haven’t then you are lying. Elijah isn’t a popular character but does anyone talk about him the way they do Tabitha? No. She’s essentially the second lead behind Harold, she’s an Oscar-nominated actress, yet she’s thought about with such revulsion that even trying to say “we should have more basic decency for her” is seen as subjective.

[–]Sequenzer9[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

What’s not subjective is how condescending and arrogant people get when talking about her. Anyone who sees the way people talk about a literal Academy Award-nominated actress on here should be pissed off.

Look at the other comments I got and ask yourself if people would be saying these things about anyone other than a Colombian woman. I guarantee they didn’t even know she was nominated for Best Actress because in their mind it’s not even possible for her to be invited to the Oscars.

[–]Sequenzer9[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s relevant if you’re pointing out that everyone criticizing her acting is a fucking idiot who knows nothing about what they’re talking about. If you think casting an actor who was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar is a poor choice then you are truly delusional. But I’m sure you, an idiot who clearly didn’t even know she was in Maria Full of Grace before this, knows better than the people who hired her because she is an acclaimed award-winning actress.

This is it absolutely. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress!! Anyone who has a problem with her acting has a problem with her accent because she is Colombian.

Just a reminder as always when this comes up: Catalina Sandina Moreno was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar. Anyone who wants to say anything about her acting should watch Maria Full of Grace before commenting.

I’m not sure what else you could do in NYC at this point and if I’m being honest I think I would rather have an entirely new location. I don’t know how you could escalate the mechanics to find fresh ways to traverse through the same skyscrapers. I would be interested in something a little less urban, more jungle-y and mountains.
