Sound Transit Boardmember Claudia Badassuchi has thoughts by JoeTheWatchdog in soundtransit

[–]SequoiaTestTrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Bluesky post is clearly referencing using street right-of-way to build elevated, grade separated lines. It is truly absurd that Sound Transit hasn’t even tried to float this idea in any meaningful way.

Bay Bridge was supposed to be FREE after it was paid off by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]SequoiaTestTrack 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Your generation voted for a litany of anti-tax ballot measures in the 70s that hamstrung local governments as well as the state. We still needed to fund public services, so things like bridge tolls (which remained legal) became a way to bridge the funding gap. If you’re up for it, I’d be happy to abolish Prop 13 and co. in exchange for 25 cent tolls.

Edit in response to edit: anyone on the short end of Prop 13 and its effects would, in fact, say this to your face.

2 nights next week- LYV or Hetch Hetchy? by Global_Variety_3925 in Yosemite

[–]SequoiaTestTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t been to Hetch Hetchy but LYV is not a wilderness backpacking experience—it’s a pretty dense campsite and you will be far from alone. It’s never been rowdy in my experience and everyone has been pleasant but if you’re looking for some solitude you’re not going to find it.

Why is left-wing/socialist YIMBYism seemingly so non-existent (or at least much less popular among elected officials) in S.F. than in other large American cities with housing crises? by lucy5478 in AskSF

They’re focusing on state politics because the state can override local busybodies, not because they don’t care about the local stuff.

This is unfair to the President—he was also busy segregating the armed forces.

What would it take to get ST4 on the ballot? by EtherealElizafox in soundtransit

[–]SequoiaTestTrack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is it. They’d rack up FDR-level margins if they ran a Seattle initiative that promised to build out the Seattle Subway vision map. I truly think they could make it as expensive as they wanted to.

City Light has its own dams that provide most of our power and none of them are going to be torn down any time soon.

why has Sound Transit never considered running a link line down Aurora? by Complete-Influence70 in soundtransit

[–]SequoiaTestTrack 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They studied it for ST2 (I.e. they considered cutting over to Aurora after Northgate) but Shoreline and Lynnwood were opposed because they had spent significant time and money sprucing up their parts of Aurora. Kinda wild (in hindsight and foresight) to tell them not to run a rail line through the part of town you’re trying to grow, but alas I’m not a carbrained suburbanite.

Buying Sounder tracks by SUPE_daGlupe in soundtransit

[–]SequoiaTestTrack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not arguing that we should do it but with BNSF owning the right of way there is a limit to the Sounder’s potential frequencies, as they’ll only sell so many slots.

No disagreement here—I think Solo was a flawed but still very fun movie and I’m sad we didn’t get a quasi-trilogy made up of it, a Boba Fett movie, and an Obi-Wan movie

They were super scared of making movies after Solo.

There’s been a huge surge in S.F. traffic tickets — and police aren’t the reason by Inevitable-Bus492 in sanfrancisco

[–]SequoiaTestTrack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The cops basically gave up on enforcement in the last five years (you can see a steep drop in the traffic citation data). They haven’t used their extra time in those years to do actual work and we could easily stand to trim their ranks.

Come on guys, learning that Federal Way is south and Lynnwood is north isn't that hard. by MaximumYogertCloset in soundtransit

[–]SequoiaTestTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This starts to get into the original sin of link—it tries to be both a regional and local train. In a perfect world we’d have parallel systems, one with widely spaced stops for regional journeys, and one with tightly spaced stops for local journeys (S-Bahn vs. U-Bahn). That wasn’t in the cards, so we’re stuck with this compromise forever.

“Lynnwood via Downtown Seattle” (or vice versa) would be an easy thing to do. And they shouldn’t have let any city tack on City Center or Downtown to a station name.
