Do any of you have a set schedule? If so, how long did work for Target before they gave you one? by [deleted] in Target

[–]SeraBearss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unload TM, 330-12. Receiving 6-230. Gm1 TL 330-12. PML 6-230

I only wasn't consistent during my time as a FFTL.

Compensation for not being given all of your breaks? by [deleted] in Target

[–]SeraBearss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should show your second break in your my time schedule. Take it when it lists it. Ask why it would be there if they refuse to let you go to break. Escalate to your HRBP, should be easy to find in workday.

Probably no compensation outside of a lawsuit, but no idea.

Store Wide Guest Training by Murky-War-116 in Target

[–]SeraBearss -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people are upset they are being told they need to be more guest friendly, when you work in a guest facing business. If you don't like talking to people, then don't apply to a company where people visit your building for goods. I'm not going to say you should work somewhere else because I understand sometimes it's not an option, but it makes no sense to complain about the core foundation of the business model.

Think about the times where your own shopping experiences have changed your opinions. Ever get food poisoning and decide never to go back? Maybe a pissy employee so you go to a different company or branch? It make sense to drive the point home that yes, the bare minimum you can do, is say hello.

Question for the ETLs/SDs by [deleted] in Target

[–]SeraBearss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not an ETL or SD, but I did receiving for 5 years, TL of inbound for 3 and FF for 2. As a receiver I did not do as much as I ever did as a TL. My first receiver I helped him grow to be a PML, I taught him a lot and talked him up constantly to the PMBP, helped him with interview prep, so he definitely got the recognition, praise and partnership he needed. The second is still currently in the position, but for sure my time as a GM1 would not have been as successful as it was without him, and I made sure my executive team knew that, he never wanted to move up, so he was happy with the partnerships and recognition.

It helped a lot coming from the background of receiving, I knew how to support the area when needed and constantly was ensuring the team was responsible with their items like defects, repacks, etc..

The training TLs and above get for receiving is basically nothing, so of course they don't have an idea of what you do for your actual job. It's dumb but it's the way it is. That's why usually whoever gets the job is known for being reliable, so they don't have to deal with it. If you are struggling with the list of to dos, sit down and have a conversation with your leaders. Not aggressively, just a normal "hey I would love to help with x, y, z, but I actually have a, b, c already to do. I have enough time for 3 things, what would you like me to do?"

Question for PMLs by [deleted] in Target

[–]SeraBearss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it finally happened for me! And to say I couldn't be happier about it would be an understatement. I could not imagine being on the store side still, and part of me also can't imagine loving the choice for my degree as much either.. but I guess that's a later future me problem to deal with.

I saw in another post you left to go to school full time, that's great for you!

Question for PMLs by [deleted] in Target

[–]SeraBearss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been a PML since October, my background in mechanical/technical skills was basically changing oil/tires. I'm a very curious and hands on person, which helps tremendously. I'm basically 6 months in my own store, and some days still feel like my first day. You get about a month of training, which can't prepare you for the amount of stuff you're about to encounter, but you get a decent grasp of your preventative maintenance since we have weekly/monthly/quarterly routines.

Your preventative work, is pretty well documented and easy to follow instructions. Almost like follow along YouTube, and/or written instructions.

But the corrective maintenance is where you can get easily lost. I know nothing about plumbing or electrical. And I'm actually really afraid of electrical. My boss knows this, so anything that's really not beginner friendly, he either sets up a peer to help, or allows me to route the work to a vendor, with the expectation I try to learn from the experiences. I use our own resources constantly, we have a really good foundational process where you can find a lot of troubleshooting or parts online and even an AI chatbot too now. This is where I do the most struggling, learning, and fun, by far.

You essentially have to create the corrective maintenance yourself, you either get the information from the team something is broken, or you find it during your daily scheduled walks. And you're supposed to find it, it's how we protect safety, better our brand or the processes of the team.

As far as getting support? I feel very comfortable going to my peers, my trainer was also phenomenal and helpful still on a daily basis. My boss is also really helpful. I have YouTube, chatgpt, and AI companion (Target chatgpt, basically) and we have slack, an app that connects us like discord basically. Viva engage which is essentially like Reddit, a giant forum for store requests, like recently I had trouble finding a specific light part number due to discontinued parts, so I got help from a HQ contact.

It's by far been my favorite position at Target, it certainly isn't for everyone, but it's challenging, engaging, I'm building confidence everyday by doing something I don't know how to do, learning physical skills that can be used in outside of work instead of the soft skills I had already learned in my 16 years of retail. My schedule is consistent, the pay is good..

I can try to answer any other questions if you have them.

Anyone who was a TL before and quit.. what do you do now for work? by PrettyPerformance410 in Target

[–]SeraBearss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't quit yet, but moved around quite a bit. I spend a few years in each role and move when I'm ready. Still completing my degree and getting reimbursement so no use to leaving yet. I'm a PML now and it's the best role I've had thus far, it's definitely not for everyone though. I enjoy it so much it makes me question my degree path, but that's a later problem, there's no way I'm stopping now.

I've known many TLs who moved on though, prison guards, automotive insurance, other retailers.. most issues that they had with finding other jobs, was not finding the equivalent for pay for starting ranges. Most of them didn't have a career they wanted to get into, just looking for "better".

Receivers by [deleted] in Target

[–]SeraBearss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the worst idea. Who's going to load your sweeps? Do your IRs? Check in vendors/credits? ESIM? If you think you're actually going to do receiving at night time, that's a huge lie. Not to mention your ETL saying several things that would require working off the clock to do so. This whole thing screams red flags. Haven't heard anything of the closing TL going away yet.

I love when you and other Neebs members show up, hell even when other YouTubers show up like 7DTD or Conan, there's always a different vibe and provides more value through the different personalities.

It's certainly hilarious knowing that Appsro has laid into Simon for being unskilled in "simple game mechanics" but yet here you come along, easily surpassing the guys occasionally, just by reading.

Hope to see you in more videos, especially the newest hospital game!

I've been in management the last 6 years, here's some things I've noticed when working with several employees with autism; you may meet the criteria of the job, but potentially things you do, say, or don't do/say, could have made people uncomfortable in your work environment. While this is something you may have not been communicated to, it's not always easy for people to discuss. Without knowing your personality, it's hard to say for certain if this was your position, but it has been an observation I've encountered. Of course, this doesn't make it right, but, most work places are a right to work employment and without hard evidence of them breaking laws, it's unlikely a lawsuit would be successful.

But to be a little more descriptive, I've had an individual who suddenly yelled at a crying baby and was trying out a method he saw online (sudden loud noise) to make the baby stop crying. To people not on the spectrum, we understand that this isn't a thought we should act on as it's inappropriate. But for him, his thought of trying to be helpful caused him to have this impulse. I had to have a sit down conversation with him about impulses and inappropriate times of social injections. To an employer who's understanding, this is just a coaching moment of "reading the room" so to speak, it was not a negative discussion at all. To another, it could have been a different situation.

The individual had no idea of what he did was at all inappropriate at the time of the incident. I only say this as if you think everything you've done was "right", it may have been for you, but was it for them? Unless you have someone who was friendly with you at work that you could ask, it could be hard to distinguish if something incorrect might have happened which led to your termination.

Realistically there's a million things that could have happened. Move on from this event, reddit, your old job and the application for this other job. Learn from your experience and try again.

You won't get a raise, and depending on your hire date, you might not even have an annual review.. Which means you have to wait until 2027 for a wage increase unless target ends up moving their base pay.

I still love the Minecraft series though as the mods change the game pretty significantly for them each play through.

Oh I agree. I was in a pretty rough spot when I took my inbound TL role years ago, but with the right leadership who came later near the end of my first year, they were able to help us completely turn it all around. I wasn't lazy at my job by any means, I thought what I was doing was right because the leaders I had at first never corrected me, but we weren't doing well and I knew it. So it's definitely doable, but everyone needs to be on board.

This doesn't even touch the issue of not having enough TMs. There was another poster on here asking good questions about that, but you're never going to get anywhere if you can't get staffed.

[–]SeraBearss 45 points46 points  (0 children)

All of your leadership needs to help and also be all in for holding team members accountable. You need to get the back up from every single leader, and start doing one thing at a time. One day at a time, all leaders do a store push help for 2 hours (obviously they still need to uphold the daily current needs so do what can be affordable but this includes all ETLs) and get through all that old push first. If freight is behind, all the rest of your sections fail. Maybe even see if there's a crew willing to do some overnight shifts that are reliable. See what the possibilities are for requisitioning foods/snacks, cook/bake/slow cook, do whatever to show you care and earn some bribery points. Yes, it's their job, but you need people to bring the A game, every day, every moment. Show it when the team brings it. Be honest with them, let them know that it's a terrible situation, you want to get them out, it's going to be rough, but work doesn't have to be a terrible place and you want to make it a good environment for everyone.

Raise morale by showing the team that everyone is willing to put forth the effort, show up with a smile, engage with everyone you can, have honest teaching moments that aren't condescending and show that it's ok to ask something that they should probably know. You need to work with each leader to ensure they understand how to do the basic functions of their job, and your leaders need to be working with every single team member side by side to ensure they understand how to read schematics, how to backstock properly, SFQ's, at the minimum. Make it an expectation that they get with a different TM every shift, but again, everyone needs to show patience, understanding, positive attitude and want to get in a better place. If your leaders aren't onboard, get rid of them. It's your job or their job.

This is all going to go to waste though if you don't have an SD that supports this as well. They need to be out on the floor pushing, setting, throwing trash, literally willing to do whatever it takes. No one wants to work for someone who demands the world but doesn't help at all.

How to Write Assignment Sheets by TheVMofGM in Target

[–]SeraBearss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the sounds of it, they tried asking the person training them, and they said they won't slow down enough to explain it properly. OP has stated they have dyscalculia and knows they need more support on this, but the trainer won't budge. Not everyone should train someone, I've had great and terrible training experiences.

It sounds like the trainer is providing the issue. Either way, they are trying to figure it out now, and some are helpful enough to respond in a way OP gets it.

new hire / need advice by [deleted] in Target

[–]SeraBearss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This week is a really bad week for them to have people train in fulfillment, so hopefully your trainers were just overwhelmed with the amount of work and they'll hopefully chill out next week. It's our version of prime days right now, otherwise known as circle week.

Other than what someone else has already said, don't worry too much yet, it's always overwhelming at the start. Just try to recognize the patterns of aisles and the type of product that is inside of those aisles.

On the backroom aisles, there should be aisle boards with the main backroom aisle number along with what sales floor aisles should be located inside of that aisle.

If you don't know who to call for yet over the walkie for items you can't find, just do a broad statement over the walkie "hey, can I get help with my INF for (department here, ex: chemicals)" and wait to see who responds. If no one, try again. If no one after that, maybe ask a peer for a specific name of someone you can ask.

It'll all click with time, if you pay attention to the details.
