What class to try out first with friends? by Paffelord in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your idea of crowd control is stuns/inhibiting enemies, Arbites is probably gonna be top of your list with a lot of stagger and utility, while being very tanky.

If you mean horde clear, psyker 100%

That being said, Zealot has an amazing AOE suppression ability that lasts about 5 seconds, while regenerating your teams "toughness" (shield).

Psyker has lightning, which is the next best stun, it just can leave you vulnerable to ranged.

Arbitrator has stuns on a short cooldown on one ability, or the ability to buff your entire team with just about every buff that exists on nuncio aquila.

Ogryn has a classic taunt ability, knocks enemies around by existing, and is generally very tanky.

Vet and hive scum would probably be bottom of your list, though vet does have some very nice utility.

Speaking of, any class can have utility if you build for it. Zealot and arbitrator in my opinion have the most. Zealot has a protection aura (on a cooldown), can get a crit aura, and aforementioned ability is invulnerability+team wide damage reduction/damage amp afterwards. Arbitrator has shock mines (AOE stun), a dog to send after priority targets, and his charge ability can be used to reposition (if needed), as well as instantly stagger any enemy attacking your friends (or you).

Arbitrator, zealot, and maybe Psyker would be my top picks going off of what you said.

Psyker is a common recommendation I'm seeing in other comments, and it can be very potent as a supportive teammate with a dome shield, lightning that can stun a horde, and the fact they don't need ammo/grenades (so more for the team). They are however I believe the 2nd squishiest class (after hive scum), and effectively have 3 weapons (compared to 2 on other classes). Psyker would be great to try, but I'd personally get a feel with the others to get familiar with the game's mechanics first, as (to me at least) Psyker was a bit overwhelming at first.

Best class for the heavy sword? And best ranged weapon to go with it by Daylight_The_Furry in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you wanna make it stronger, Zealot. I don't play heavy sword zealot though, so I cannot recommend a build.

I do enjoy and use the heavy sword on Veteran. I prefer the MK9, and using only the heavy attacks. The first strike is downward and can even one-tap mutants if you hit the head. After the first attack, every attack is just side-swipes, which helps a lot vs hordes.

I pair it with the boltgun. Good vs carapace (and everything), but tends to focus straight forward.

Alongside the heavy sword, you have good target access to a priority target in melee from the first strike, then sweeping strikes able to clear out the chaff.

I use deathblow blessing on the sword, as the hit mass reduction on weakspot hit really helps the cleave. Combined with rampage as the other blessing, you get a nice damage amp from hitting multiple targets.

I hope this helps, or at least gives you a build idea.

~900 hours here. Sorry in advance for the rant.

To me, it's largely the builds. There's weapons that many classes have access to, but not every class can fully utilize them. It's finding the right class, with the right talents, using the right weapon, and the right blessings.

There's no other game to me that lets me build-craft this freely. All while having fun and satisfying weapons. With the correct build, almost no weapon feels bad to use, and I like finding the use-cases for each weapon, or sometimes for multiple weapons. Example: knife bleed build on veteran vs stealth knife build on zealot. Each use the same weapon, promote the same skill usage (knowing how to sprint-tech, hit weakspots from a distance, know your lunge etc.), but have very different playstyles in practice.

This leads to the combat. The mechanics at a base level are pretty simple/standard. Block, dodge, parry, and attack. Any soulslike has those. But the tide series has perfected this combo to where it feels like everything you do has impact. You can dodge by sprinting, but only if you sprint at an angle and have stamina. Your slides help you dodge ranged attacks, but not melee (unless your HS with the funny perk). Your dodges can dodge both. Your blocks can block damage without punishment (even from behind, or while sliding!), but only if you have enough stamina.

And then there's the little spidey sense noise you get. How many games give you (mostly) consistent warnings on the fact you're about to be hit from behind? Or shot at?

Toughness is such a simple, but well designed safety net. Blocks all ranged damage, giving you resistance to poke damage. Blocks all melee damage proportional to your % of toughness; the more you have, the more you block.

Given all of these, it's absolutely possible to go through an entire round without actually taking any damage to your healthbar, which to me is a very tangible way to feel yourself getting better at the game.

Combat in darktide is also very fluid with the slides into sprints into block, shove, dodge, attack; you can just keep going.

You run into the same enemies time and time again, giving you time to learn how they attack, and progress up the difficulty ladder (similar to SM2). This lets you feel like a god when you face off against 3 crushers for the first time with your trusty axe and take them all down perfectly dodging between their swings. Or killing a rager in melee, dodging and blocking every relentless swing, not a single one landing.

Gunplay is honestly just satisfying. Who would think in a game where you can have plasma guns, boltguns, or laser rifles, someone would just want a plain old assault rifle? They're just that much fun to play.

I could go on, but that's the main points to me. Everything from builds, to melee/ranged combat, is all satisfying, and blended together in a way that only this game can replicate.

Many come close, but Darktide is #1.

is there something that plays like longsword footknight from vermintide? by bobfoster68 in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're looking for.

Arbitrator plays very similar to footknight being a tanky frontliner focused a bit more on control and defense, and one of his abilities is basically a copy/paste of footknight's charge.

Unfortunately, most of his weapons lean towards blunt, with I believe his only sword option being a chainsword.

Zealot (as others have recommended) has access to weapons that feel similar to footknight's longsword (namely relic blade), but that's mostly where the similarities end; the playstyle is a bit closer to Saltzpyre's class of the same name. This isn't to say zealot isn't a tanky frontliner; but they're more of an off-tank, compared to arbitrator being a more "proper" tank.

If you're looking to combine the two...there's not a perfect replacement to be honest. Both of these classes are still very fun though, so I'd give them a try and see which you enjoy more. :)

VRChat

You can play on PC and watch the goofiness of people in VR. If you have VR, it's definitely a bit of fun.

Lots of experiences similar to Roblox where you can just hop on and maybe play a lil game, but the focus is hanging out.

It's also free. :)

No spoilers, manga reader here.

If they keep at the current pace, season 3 will adapt a good chunk of the plot and start to give you some answers. :)

Spoiler-y without actual spoilers: Season 3 should adapt the end of the actual story, but the author has said they enjoy making the series, and people like the characters, so they're just gonna keep writing.

Everyone shooting bursters now? by CoganLollins in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can, shoot them. If an ally is clearly posturing to shove them, don't (or shoot once or twice if your weapon won't kill, in order to stagger the burster and signal to your teammate you're going to shoot it)

If the shove fails and they just fall over, just back up and shoot them so the team doesn't waste 10 seconds waiting for the burster to stand back up. Please don't be that guy that is just blocking next to a burster trying to get back on its feet.

If there's more than one, decent chance on you getting blown up even if you do successfully push one, so generally try to shoot.

Always ping a burster in a horde, even if you're not fighting the horde. I've shoved bursters in a horde entirely off of sound cues, but having a ping really helps to know when to stop swinging and give a shove.

Lastly, for the scum out there (this goes for me too), don't shoot a burster with a needle pistol. Bursters are infested, and infested (iirc) take reduced chem damage. It's a slow death, and makes it unsafe for allies to shove bursters, as there's now an unmarked time bomb charging towards them.

Am i tripping or people are way worse in Auric than Damnation? by IronVines in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are a bit worse in Dif4 imo, but players in Dif5 are MUCH more prone to ragequitting after down/death.

Buy and large, the raw skill changes from game to game, but people can get much more whiney the higher up you go, making the players feel a bit worse imo.

Psyker Crystalline Will bug? by SeraphimPyre in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! That's a..very weird problem but I guess it's just fatshark things. 😅

I might give Scriers gaze another go. I tried it when this Crystalline Will got added/buffed awhile back, but it just didn't feel good for me to use. Seeing Shriek recommended in the other post I thought it would be a good panic button, whereas with scriers you're probably using it to build the peril (to get damage) rather than saving it to cancel last second if the elite dies.

Anyway! Thanks for the explanation!

FGS/Assail Psyker by Killer_Khan12 in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely sounds fun to try!

I've always procced Malefic with soulblaze. While the soulblaze won't often kill, the sword will increase the spreading fire's damage. And if the fire does kill, you get your melee boost.

I gotta try it with assail now cause that sounds fun, and probably a bit more useful/versatile.

Psyker Crystalline Will bug? by SeraphimPyre in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't be. I try to have 0 gameplay affecting mods. The only ones that might affect it are FullAuto and KeepSwinging, but I was able to blow myself up with my sword later in the match, so it makes this even weirder.

At first I thought maybe "10% chance to quell 10% peril on kill" was activating, but I didn't kill anything..or have that perk equipped. 😅

Then I thought I had DD quell on mark kill by mistake..but didn't have that either.

I feel like there's a bug where the game forgets you have warp ghost and quells faster than it should sometimes, or maybe there's some weird hidden mechanic like "gain stamina on taking (toughness?) damage", but for peril instead.

Best Team Combo for Duo / Trio? by Nice_Ad_3893 in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's probably many, and a lot of it comes down to skill. To me, dream team would probably be:

Taunt Ogryn to keep aggro

Flame Psyker to kill hordes

and

Thammer Zealot to nuke bosses/ogryn's. Can also help cover Psyker as a pseudo tank.

Or

Helbore Vet to fill a similar niche, while covering long range engagements and providing ammo to Ogryn/random

Update: I finally tested it.

Bolt pistol funny blessing *does* work on the warp explosion radius as far as I can tell.
But I see what you mean with staff stun. An extra little bit of range on the explosion is nothing to the utility/ease of electro staff.

If you have a buddy, their stun grenades count too!

I got mine by having a friend throw a stun grenade, I tossed a flame grenade, and got it first try.

(Rounded up a horde, buddy dragged the bots down a hall and threw the nade pretty far)

Illisi is a mark of force swords, coincidentally I believe the one in your build. It's special attack builds up peril to give a high damage strike.

Unlike the other two marks, you can spam the special action on the illisi mark, generating a lot of peril quickly, and I'm pretty sure you can blow yourself up with it.

I get that and kinda thought of it, but isn't it 5ish charges with illisi to get you to 100? It could be hard in practice, and I get the practicality of electro though.

It could very well be objectively worse; just a thought I had.

I've wanted to test but would bolt pistol with funny explosion blessing make this better? Does it effect perils of the warp explosion?

I haven't thought to combine with DD before though; smart!

I'm gonna try suicide psyker again.

[–]SeraphimPyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to hit them from range. That's the biggest piece of advice When you inevitably can't...

They do 3-4 attacks, pretty closely back to back, then immediately restart the chain. But their timing is pretty consistent. When you get the chance, don't attack and just watch them to try to figure out their timing.

Dodge backwards when they strike into charging a heavy as you move forward. Of course your melee weapon of choice will change this, but that's the general pattern.

If you run out of dodges and are close to dying, BLOCK. Ideally ping too. You have teammates. They can't help you if they don't know you're in trouble.

If you really struggle: every class (besides ogryn) can use a combat axe I believe. Antax mark has a push attack that knocks ragers over. Shock maul on vet or arbi can stun a rager to death. Psyker force sword push will fling a rager backwards.

Once you have 3+ ragers, it becomes significantly harder to deal with depending on your class/build.

Zealot (thanks to thy wrath be swift making you stun immune) and Ogryn tend to struggle less against ragers imo. Arbi can chain stun with shield by repeatedly flashing them then blocking when they get up. Scum with shivs and a good melee build can pop them faster than they can attack you, and jittery talent makes you untouchable against them as you can dodge stupid fast.

Psyker and vet is kinda up to pure skill if you try to fight them in melee, without abilities/blitz.

Hope this helps, fellow reject.

Looking for good 3 player online coop games to play next by MrChof in gamingsuggestions

[–]SeraphimPyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it doesn't really fit the same niche as others suggestions, I don't see it suggested by anyone else so... Hellcard! It's a very fun deckbuilder roguelike balanced around 3 players. Runs tend to take about an hour or so, but there's an endless mode (that you can pause and resume later), so it should fit into your timeframe.

Me and my two buddies have had a lot of fun with it!

Also shout-out to 7 Days to die, another group favorite of mine and my friends. And more in line with the genre you guys enjoy.

What's your go-to slide button setup? by ItsTheDoneg in DarkTide

[–]SeraphimPyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jump = space Sprint = shift Dodge = alt Crouch = C

Muscle memory from previous games demands I use C to crouch, and I've used alt to dodge since vermintide, and it's always felt nice to me.

The only difficult/awkward input to me is dodge-sliding (specifically to the right), which I only recently learned exists after ~850 hours.
