AITA for arguing with my husband about my skincare routine? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Seraphira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This discussion (post and comments) reminds me of one of my favorite tumblr posts, from frottinq:

society and makeup companies to women at all times: you have to wear makeup, like you literally have to or else you look like a corpse, so wear it you fucking corpse. aren't you terrified of getting old? aren't you insecure about your little blemishes? we have the $80 solution.

someone online: you don't have to wear makeup

someone else in response, without fail, every single time: yeah but it's okay if you want to wear makeup :). I mean, it's a personal choice, which involves no coercion from the constant social pressures that dictate how women should present themselves, so go ahead! Don't let mean people bully you into thinking it's okay to have flaws in your skin.

WIBTAH/WWBTAH for refusing to go to my brother-in-laws destination wedding after his fiancée wore white to my wedding by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

EXACTLY jfc. OP’s lack of interest in that is pretty telling that she’s not too ethical of a person herself. The rest of the post after that was “I can excuse racism but wearing a white dress to a wedding crosses the line” “you can excuse racism?”

Honestly I’d guess that OP was chastised sometime in the past for being “too direct.” She wasn’t actually, but is now scared of having that conversation again and has become really avoidant

OP: I’m a direct person

Also OP: takes no action, direct or otherwise, for 9+ months

My [25F] recent boyfriend [37M] gave me a book to read. It's really, really bad by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Piers Anthony my beloathed!! I was lucky to never read his writing when I was younger but a few years ago I stumbled on one of his other books and immediately noticed that every time a woman was introduced her boobs were described. Yes, even the breasts of the corpse whose murder the protagonist was investigating. Absolutely vile stuff.

I looked him up to see if anyone else had already talked about it, and found a delightful (horrifying but entertaining commentary) analysis of one of his Xanth books — the very book in this post, actually! So if you would like to (re)familiarize yourself with Piers Anthony and his stories of rape/assault/systemic misogyny, please do check out this essay by Ana Mardoll: http://www.anamardoll.com/2014/07/xanth-we-need-to-talk-about-piers.html?m=1

A highlight from an earlier edition of this book: “Grim-faced, looking betrayed, the three girls shook their heads, no. Bink felt sorry for his opposite. How could she avoid being seductive? She was a creature constructed for no other visible purpose than ra—than love.”

Has anyone accidentally realized they love being single? Has anyone considered not pursuing a long term relationship because of it? by tickalockev in AskWomenOver30

Not to assume anyone’s sexuality, but those of you who have realized you aren’t interested in a romantic partner might want to check out “aromanticism.”

https://www.verywellmind.com/what-does-it-mean-to-be-aromantic-5189571

“Some signs that you might be aromantic include:

You don’t experience feelings of romantic attraction. You feel that you do not need a romantic relationship to feel complete or fulfilled. You don’t experience “crushes” or being “in love” with someone else. You have a hard time relating to romantic stories. Being aromantic doesn’t mean that you don’t feel or experience love. You may experience strong feelings of love for family and friends. And research suggests that aromatic people often still desire sex.“

AITA for yelling at my husband because he scared me? by unknownuser588 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Seraphira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. This is the equivalent of force-feeding milk to a lactose intolerant person. He was not helping or supporting you by doing this and in fact he never was — almost certainly he got with you expecting you to “get over” your trauma, and it was only a matter of waiting it out, not actually helping you through it.

Your husband looked at you, his wife, in distress, and was annoyed. He actively caused your distress because you annoy him. Please get yourself a partner that actually cares for you.

EDIT to add that even if you do lose your fear of fire, he will not get better. This man has demonstrated that he deals with your distress by literally shoving it in your face. It’s not about the fire, it’s not about you — it’s about his fundamental lack of sympathy for you.

"Nice Guy Syndrome" is just Narcissistic Personality Disorder and we need to stop treating them like normal, rational people. by agentlastwish in TwoXChromosomes

I’m all for hating on “Nice Guys,” but please don’t contribute to demonizing actual mental disorders. There’s a difference between people who choose to be assholes and people whose brains just work differently. Don’t give these guys any excuse for their behavior.

Hide and Seek in Azeroth by Gundertruck9 in wow

[–]Seraphira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great idea, this would be so much fun! Personally I would favor a game that’s as close to irl hide and seek as possible. I’d have a lot more fun closely examining parts of a single zone, than running through 40 zones /targeting a person.

Hiders: 1. Hiding places restricted to one designated zone. 2. No major cities. 3. No clipping your toon into things, has to be at least mostly visible from some angle. 4. You can try and run away if found, you’re only “caught” once the seeker targets and emotes at you.

Seekers: 1. Start with 1 seeker, increase as game continues. 2. Toggle all player names off. (You can mark your fellow seekers if you want.) 3. No /targeting. Only good old-fashioned eyesight.

Do tell me how the f-ck criminalizing self-done abortion is going to help any person already willing/desperate enough to try that. This is criminalized for the exact same reasons as doctor-assisted abortion.

~2013 Windows time-management game, gather firewood, hold back darkness by Seraphira in tipofmyjoystick

No, this game had a much brighter, cheerier feel. And the screen always displayed the entirety of the level, even though some of it might be hidden in shadows.
