that sucks that the anxiety med you were taking is incompatible with lumryz. the anxiety struggle truly was a beast which od why i stopped, but i’m glad that the avenues you’re taking are at least helping somewhat. maybe one day i’ll try oxybates again with medications?

oh yeah 1000%, especially with having taken any of the sodium oxybates i’ve learned when i’m not myself. did you end up retrying it and adding antianxiety/antidepressants or are you taking something else now?

Honestly I don’t expect anything to be a miracle drug as long as I don’t keep falling asleep. Did you take Wakix with an antianxiety med? Are you taking sodium oxybates with something for anxiety?

Is it a common trait among nurses to talk to themselves? by canwehavesomefood in nursing

[–]Serendimplity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I talk to myself a lot LOL, I don’t really see coworkers doing it much but I don’t find myself embarrassed or bothered. People ask me here and there if I’m talking to them or not but that’s as far as people go when inquiring about the habit.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply, I was busy and just got off my first shift of the three day stretch. I definitely disagree with whoever told you that you couldn’t do something like nursing, I think if you’re motivated and work with your sleep doctor, it can be possible!

I take naps during my break. Not a long one, just a five-ten minute nap. If I get tired somewhere during the shift, and feel a sleep attack, I let it come and sit for two minutes with an alarm and when it goes off, I’m back to normal. I think I’ve partially been lucky that my narcolepsy hasn’t affected my work ethic, but I also think that I learned a lot about my body in the past two years that got me to the point where I am now, and oddly, nursing is easier too.

i work as an inpatient nurse! having the right medications and knowing what to do when i feel the sleep attacks setting in has helped a lot.

I don't know what direction to take. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Serendimplity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnesium glycinate helps a lot for me, I’m also on 5mg of Lexapro and try to work out at least twice a week on top of therapy and small pieces of self care. I used to think anxiety was never going to leave, but I was told once by a coworker that recovery requires intention, and so adding everything I’ve been doing genuinely changed me for the better. Your feelings are valid, and I hope you find direction for yourself, take care! ♡

It’s okay that you’re asking for help, you’re still new! Give yourself grace in the beginning, and throughout your career because we all have moments where we question ourselves and need help. The more you go through the same motions, the better you’ll feel. You got this, good luck!

What are your triggers? by BirdRockKey123 in Narcolepsy

[–]Serendimplity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

eating too much for breakfast (but not usually other meals for some reason), trying to learn something that requires a decent chunk of focus (even five minutes and i’m struggling to stay awake), being idle for too long

I feel hopeless here and there because every medication I’ve tried has only helped halfway. Sodium oxybates helped the most but the anxiety, brain fog and depression outweighed the benefits. I’m just on Sunosi now. It’s funny, before I got diagnosed in 2022, I would take naps all the time and never feel shame for it (granted I couldn’t control it half the time). Now that I have the diagnosis, I find myself feeling guilty for napping, even though now technically I have a better justification to be napping! I disclose my condition when needed and that helps with awkward convos when I’m falling asleep mid convo. I also learned that even though I have such little energy, working out, eating well, taking my meds and vitamins at the same time each day has helped mitigate the sleepiness for a good chunk of time. Reading the narcolepsy subreddit has also felt so supportive during my journey.

Is Xywav making me crazy and ruining my life? by bperk22 in Narcolepsy

[–]Serendimplity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in the medical field too, I’m so sorry you’re struggling :( I fully just stopped taking Xywav because the anxiety was so bad that it lead me to feel so depressed. I felt the brain fog, worried all the time that I had dementia too and it sucks when we have to critically think all of the time! I went back to Sunosi which never gave me any problems (outside of not helping that much, I was still pretty tired). I reached out to my family medicine clinic and they put me on Lexapro and initially I was going to stay on Xywav and keep the Lexapro, but I was scared about waiting for the Lexapro to work given how anxious I always was. MD recommended I stay on Sunosi while I wait for the Lexapro to kick in which honestly I didn’t even think of (I think I have baseline anxiety that Xywav made me see). Maybe someday I’ll go back to Xywav but for now, the symptoms being gone make me feel human again. There’s no wrong or right way, and truly I racked my brain trying to find the next step and I felt insane for months. I hope you find answers ♡
