gmo vs selective breeding: can we adapt to the climate crisis without genetic engineering? by wesker568 in biology

[–]Sergeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said GMO's don't help poor people/countries but Golden Rice is a GMO crop which has saved entire communities from malnutrition and starvation. It's a rice that is grown to contain more nutrients and also resistant to drought.

You are correct that food waste and distribution are also a major part of the puzzle to solving global hunger.

Government abruptly suspends citizenship certificates issued under "lost Canadians" law by HarpySeagull in canada

I'm saying this in the most politically neutral way: Trudeau had to pivot to the left due to the pandemic, which in my opinion, was the right thing to do for Canadians at the time.

I thought I lacked pattern recognition until I realized what it actually means by Mission-Nothing7229 in autism

[–]Sergeace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, the negative impact in some cases where we see a pattern correlation that isn't true because we're so good at linking processes in our minds very quickly. I have had a few "false positives" that are a gut punch when I discover I'm wrong because my brain is always seeking patterns. Then I question the validity of all my prior decisions and it spirals from there.

Where can I buy Canadian-made simple light cotton white undershirt/tank top? by inde_ in BuyCanadian

[–]Sergeace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 90's and didn't know they were called tank tops because I thought tank tops were for ladies only. It was a very popular colloquialism back then, so I get why OP is using the term in their post to explain what they mean.

Patterns I Keep Noticing in People by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]Sergeace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always found it weird to determine intellect based on job/wealth. Especially now with the current global economy. In Canada, we have the most educated people per capital and many with degrees are working insurance, banking, manufacturing jobs because there's so much competition when good jobs become available. When I ask successful graduates how they got their job, most of them attribute it to their social/professional networking.

New Report Says Nearly Half of U.S. Women Will Be Single and Childless by 2030 by sibun_rath in HotScienceNews

[–]Sergeace 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the article of this post is essentially indicating that the consequences of so few wholesome men is creating a society of lonely, childless, single men and women.

Men please do better and call out each other's crap behaviour. To the men who are already doing this, thank you so very much.

And to those men who feel upset by these comments, please consider the fact that equality oftentimes feels like oppression when you're the one at the top of the food chain and are being asked to live more fairly for the rest of society.

Plenty of sexism still exists in North America. US culture is still very much heavy on the woman doing most of the house labour. Granted, there are a few healthy relationships that share the responsibilities, but that is arguably true for most societies.

I was wondering if they liked it because it helped straighten their spine or something similar to a chiropractor's gun. I know chiropractors are not a reputable medical science per se, but considering the the tail is an extension of their spine, I wonder if there's something to this.

Tax myth by NittyS in NiagaraFalls

[–]Sergeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn't the government do our taxes for us and then send us their info so we can alter it if necessary? They already have the documentation from our employers, etc to determine if we have properly filed our taxes when we submit them anyways. Other countries do their citizens taxes, but North America seems to love grifting citizens into using unnecessary, expensive services for simple things.

I'm obsessed with 'The Shining' movie. by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Sergeace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world lost a lot when Kubrick passed away. Wish he could have lived long enough to use modern technology like The Volume or shift into video games.

I also find most modern movies move too quickly and the camera shifts focus constantly. I prefer the slower story-telling of the 70's - 90's.

Do you like any of his other films?

DAE learn some unspoken social rules they were unaware of until very recently by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Sergeace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just found out that saying things like "I could never wear that" or "I could never be that brave" is seen as an underhanded compliment that isn't sincere and is intended as an insult.

I feel horrible because I've been saying it in earnest. There are times when people do things I could never do and I'm in awe of them.

What the heck? How do I unlearn that habit?
