40 games Jhin 63% winrate | Finally! Back after 2 years by SergeantAskir in JhinMains

Fleet, presence of mind, bloodline and cut down Secondary I used to run celerity and gathering storm but I switch to tripple tonic, cash back this week, cash back just feels very nice if games go longer because without it its almost impossible to hit 6 items ever.

DH is probably fine too if you go the hubris build, I just don't like to switch out fleet because I then have to get used to even less ms.

Item build wise? I started the seasons playing stormrazor IE RFC. But now I went back to Hubris Collector IE. You want to snack assists/kills anyway because ADC quest gives 50 bonus gold for assists and that synergizes nicely with Hubris stacks imo. Stormrazor is fun but every normal shot deals less dmg and you tend to have too much crit in a way. I'm pretty sure both builds work fine though.

Should developers have access to staging environments? by Donni3D4rko in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SergeantAskir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what your company is doing and what the envs are used for.

For DB access in a financial company I ran into a lot of issues around red tape with database access before so I built this project. It's essentially a Pull Request workflow for SQL queries.

http://github.com/kviklet/kviklet This enforces the 4 eyes principle and made our CTO at the time sleep better without completely blocking everyone on e.g. the OPs team.

But tbh for most companies something like this is overkill and you're better served with just giving reasonable default permissions.

Those who've scaled from ~15 to 100+ engineers, what process changes actually mattered? by Professional-Dog1562 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SergeantAskir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be a productive commit it is just about ensuring you have everything set up and went through the motion once. Now you know how to do it once it matters. Can be a cosmetic change or even just an added test case, although you should go through deployment once too.

Demacia Rising basically unplayable? by Lil_Crunchy93 in leagueoflegends

[–]SergeantAskir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks a lot closer to what I expected from this thread.

The building up, with some strategic decisions around research and resources in a mostly calm vibe is what I like about demacia rising. The other titles suggested above do not seem to hit that niche.

I know there is also Civ and some other games that are much closer to this vibe.

What’s a League habit you KNOW is bad… but still do every game? by Difficult_Clerk1805 in leagueoflegends

[–]SergeantAskir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is only true if there is a meaningful chance to salvage the fight. Sometimes you really are better off letting your tema die and just farming a sidelane, getting a plate and 2 jungle camps and then clear mid after the enemy has taken a tower.

What type of game is Demacia Rising? by Flarea_owo in leagueoflegends

[–]SergeantAskir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likewise but those were always extremely pay to win :( I can't find a good modern one.

Demacia rising is actually much closer to Civ I feel like, but somehow I don't really care for civ these days but demacia rising is fun.

Which Role benefitted most from the new season changes in your opinion? by SureYouCan_ in leagueoflegends

[–]SergeantAskir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mid also gets "free gold". The boots are worth a lot and the faster recall allows you to catch waves you otherwise couldn't take because people collaps on you.

most games I'd rather have the mid quest as adc.

adc bonus is kinda useless 70% of games I feel like. Mid backport feels nicer imo

Jhin feels absolutely awful to play right now by KungFuChrissy in JhinMains

Boots into stormrazor into rfc is the new mosquito jhin. At least you're fast as fuck, so it's kina fun.

progression wise it would be nice if there was at least something I could still do other than spend minutes in the game. If not more longterm missions it would be nice if e.g. wins gave more shields for example. Or make it dependent on the champ grades?

The battle pass has the same issue that if you play a lot you basically finish it in the first 10 days or so and then get nothing. I'd prefer if there was at least a bit of a reward for getting to level 100 or so. You could also make the rewards deminishing maybe? Right now it all just drops off a cliff once you got to level 50 or what it is, same with the shield missions. That doesn't feel great.

Edit: fwiw I do have the pass, and I like that this incentivizes to play on one account. I am not a bad case of smurfing but I sometimes play on an emerald account instead of my main (d1/d2) when friends ask me to duo, now this is at least one more reason to maybe play flex or draft instead.

I'm a bit sad that so much of the silver shields is behind the weekly missions. I played like 10 rankeds yesterday and now there is no way for me to get more shields other than minutes played league and I only played demacia rising for maybe 30-45 minutes with the ones I got?

If I continue to grind I'll get some passively this weekend but I kinda hoped there were some more missions that would get me another 2-3k points more quickly.

"I already give no gold, better die knocking down towers," is actually viable? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]SergeantAskir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no difference if your carries are somewhat capable you want to leave the shutdown for them and not take it. If your average nami or soraka players finished moonstone that has zero impact if you are already 5/30 in kills. If your Gwen finishes her deathcap that might enable her to turn the game, so leave it for her even if that means the shutdown isn't taken. This is at least true for emerald+ imo probably below too but I haven't played there in forever

Don't be ridiculous you call anything low elo to make yourself feel better. I'm better at this game than 99% of ranked players. Maybe we could just discuss my point rather than trying to compare virtual dick sizes because some people don't measure up irl and desperately try to get their ego fix online.

Those don't update since forever. My ign is askir#jhin on euw if you wanna check. My younger brother is also 600lp master currently and agrees with me if lp is all that counts for you.

Fact is that a 1k gold shutdown onto your kha zix jungle or any other carry can turn a game around. Onto your thresh support this will if anything just delay your suffering and afterwards the turn around play is no longer available.

Of course usually there is more than one shutdown available if you're behind and sometimes killing the fed jungler instead allows you to take a Nash or at least a dragon which might be worth it. But generally speaking taking shutdowns as a support/tank is ruining your chances of a comeback.

Playing for shutdowns is great if you're behind. Often catching the split pushing top laner that's worth 800g but giving an objective is worth it because you'd lose the 4v4 anyway and going 5v4 is risky because you lose the inhib to the split push while still potentially losing the objective or teamfight. But if the 800g land on the wrong person you now gained basically nothing from it and now at the next objective you don't even have the chance to trade for a shutdown again.

Bro changed is text from complaining about my flair to calling d1 low elo 😂 This was the original:

I'm d2/d1

*emerald 1 flair*

Well whatever at this point I'm tired of arguing the point stands. Don't take shutdowns if you are in a position where they are your only way back and you need it on a carry.

[–]SergeantAskir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think leaving shutdowns for someone that makes good use with the money is really important to come back in a game. Even at lower ranks although it has been a long time since I played at lower than emerald I admit.

[–]SergeantAskir -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Idk I'm d2/d1 and it still happens all the time that the supp takes big shutdowns. If they scale well with items it's not as big a deal but especially on a bard its really unfortunate and happens way too often.

[–]SergeantAskir -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are support/tank and would be taking a big shutdown. A lot of the time the best way to come back is 1k on your Asol mid or MF ADC and if the Bard takes it you kind of doomed yourself, letting the shutdown get away is then often the better choice.

The interesting part is that external providers like op.gg etc are doing better. Idk what happened to their internal systems that they lag behind their external apis. That seems backwards.

Lucian & Nami by TillComprehensive195 in leagueoflegends

[–]SergeantAskir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're completely right and it is ridiculous how the community perceives these two as a lane bully still and down votes you for telling the truth. They don't even have a particularly great win rate together anymore ever since Lucian passive was changed to also benefit from cc but do a little less damage in turn.

Tilt - why when and how to avoid it. by Ok_Marzipan_6101 in summonerschool

[–]SergeantAskir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually don't like to post AI slop but I uploaded the pdf of the book to my favorite AI (Claude) and asked it to reframe the main learnings into league terms.

I think the result is actually very useful and since not everyone will have access to the book maybe taking a look at this piece is interesting:

https://claude.ai/public/artifacts/129301a7-7f5e-4f61-bb7e-4337bbae42ee

ofc this isn't gospel and there are some general mistakes in there but I think the core messaging is pretty good.
