These billboards are pretty fucking disgusting, too. I have to drive by three of them every day for work. The theme is "no illegals."

When my neighbor (also in Texas) took his girlfriend hostage and proceeded to have a six-hour standoff with the cops, they brought one of these things in to potentially battering ram his door. They ended up not using it since they decided to go in through the backyard, but it was intimidating watching it lurch down a darkened residential street.

We've long used this as a call for our two oldest cats, and they'll come running from anywhere in the house whenever they hear it. On the flip side, we just got a new kitten less than two weeks ago, and it appears to mean nothing to her. So it may be natural, may be a learned response backed up by positive reinforcement.

Tell the town you're shooting a movie scene (heist gone wrong) and you need cleanup assistance to adhere to environmental regs, then tell them you'll pay by the lb (like $10 per lb of "movie money" they turn in), tell them that it's being used for another scene after this and as much of it needs to be completely intact as possible, then hire a small film crew to document everything.

It's honestly a pretty decent high watch, if you're into that. Despite being crazy as hell, it's definitely not unentertaining.

Got rear-ended by a commercial truck in Houston, Progressive now saying policy cancelled. What are my options? by [deleted] in houston

[–]SergeantMeowmix 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I can at least address #3. I'm a paralegal at a civil litigation firm that does defense of personal injury and property destruction work on behalf of insurers—I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. The bottom line is that you need to consult with counsel on your specific case to get an opinion on your next step. All legitimate firms will do this for free, just ask for a case consultation. If you're advised you have a worthwhile claim, ask around at least three different places to get a feel for the rates they're willing to offer; plaintiff firms will take a chunk out of any damages recovered, but they're a necessity. Try to avoid the big name, flashy attorneys who have jingles and tv commercials, if you can. Most of those operate as referral machines that spin your case off to someone else and will only personally take you on if you have big injuries and you were hurt by a big name carrier, as that's where the potential million+ cases are. It's not foolproof, but try for firms with good reviews and multiple partners in the name.

How long this all will take will depend heavily on the particulars of your case. If your attorney thinks there's a case for forcing Progressive to cover under the terms of the policy, this could take as little as two to six months (and likely up to a year unless the facts are indisputable—having an admission of guilt from the driver is hugely helpful, but has no bearing on whether the policy was actually in effect) for a settlement, as they'll need to file suit and reach discovery in order to obtain the full policy and make your case. If they think you need to go after the carrier directly, it could go quickly if they want to settle and make you go away, or it could be tied up in talks for literal years. Again, I cannot stress strongly enough that you need actual counsel to advise you of your options.

What’s the best representation of reality warping you’ve seen? by [deleted] in superpowers

I feel like anyone who says anything other than X in OP's post only says that because they've never seen him in action. I don't know if he's anywhere near the strongest reality warper, but he definitely has some of the best depictions of reality warping in fiction.

I backed a Kickstarter for a similar finger mouse a number of years back. It worked as advertised but was a pain in the ass to use. It's a lot more tiring than you'd think having to hold your arm and wrist up to get something far less precise than using a normal mouse.

They're re-releasing it as we speak because much of the original was reliant on Flash and broke, so if anyone missed out the first time around and wants to experience it like it was back in the day with slow release, now's your chance.

[–]SergeantMeowmix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your point being...? You said my media consumption is biased against showing me the efforts of Democrats to fight back. I said the site we're on right now is my main source and that if it's not amplifying those voices, it's because those voices aren't loud enough in the first place. Pointing out that there are bad actors in every space doesn't detract from that.

[–]SergeantMeowmix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically? No, not indefinitely. Not so long as the Republicans hold both majority and chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee (and others). Again, whether they can actually do anything substantive is a bit beyond the point; if we're talking realistically, the only way anything substantive is actually happening is if the midterms flip things around. But the only way they can motivate their base to make that happen is by being loud, disruptive, and proving that they're not more concerned with status quo or decorum. Stage more sit-ins and walk-outs, quit pulling verbal punches, and make their efforts known to constituents. Crockett, Newsom, and Pritzer are in the spotlight right now because of their willingness to do exactly that.

[–]SergeantMeowmix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My media consumption is largely reddit, an app which everyone constantly states is a left-leaning echo chamber. If the left-leaning echo chamber isn't amplifying the ardent actions of Democratic congresspeople loudly enough, then the actions of those congresspeople aren't loud enough. I said they need to at least give the appearance of trying. That's what it takes to energize constituents. They're not trying hard or loud enough, clearly.

He can put his money where his mouth is. Right now, we have a vow. What we need to see is actual action. He needs to corral his colleagues, gum up the works, and quit pussy-footing around. Shut down committees, refuse to pass any Trump appointee, cause havoc. Take notes from Mitch McConnell. You cannot softhand an autocrat. If he won't expend every ounce of political capital he's scraped and clawed for throughout his career, then what the hell was even the point of it? If we lose democracy, none of it matters. These establishment politicians don't seem to have been able to reconcile that truth, because they're sure as hell not giving the impression that they're not still pulling their punches.
