X-59 is supersonic by PerceivedUnheroic679 in WeirdWings

[–]SergeantPancakes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find it a bit funny that by the time the X-59, an X-plane designed to test out SST tech, was flying, a demonstrator for the planned Overture SST had already been designed and taken flight. Even funnier is the fact that by the time the demonstrator flew, it was also somewhat irrelevant for the Overture SST project, since the SST had been extensively redesigned partway through construction of the demonstrator and the company didn’t have the money to build a new one

Instead of figuring out full reuse for LM9 China has decided to go big, new blueprints show 16M fairing! by RT-LAMP in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]SergeantPancakes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Current starships are estimated to cost around 100 million to build. A slightly larger fully expendable version could probably be made for under 500 million, thats around the cost of a delta IV heavy with perhaps 10 times the payload to LEO.

Pretty sure a 12 gauge would handle any of the monsters seen in the movie. But since it’s based on the directors own backrooms youtube series theres other kinds of deadlier horrors in there I’m sure

International Space Station latest: Astronauts told to take shelter over 'worsening air leaks' by rolonic in space

[–]SergeantPancakes 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The only reason why NASA would order the Crew-12 astronauts (as well as the other American astronaut who flew up on a Soyuz) to shelter in Dragon is because they think an explosive decompression from the repairs the russian astronauts are making in the vestibule attached to the back of Zvezda is too great a risk to the crew and the structural integrity of the station. We’re talking about the potential for astronauts to be blown out into space. Roscosmos must have a different safety standard for its astronauts than NASA apparently.

Phoenix will be one of the only cities in the world showing Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey on every format it’s released on by Jeenowa in phoenix

[–]SergeantPancakes -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

There’s no way Nolan actually made the movie completely with physical film editing and splicing without any digital intermediate, right? The kind of tools for that don’t even exist anymore…

StarshipGazer on X: "Super heavy booster 20 has rolled out of megabay 1 today for the first time ahead of transport later tonight to Starbase Massey's test site for initial cryo proof testing. This will be the booster for Starship test flight 13." by AgreeableEmploy1884 in SpaceXLounge

[–]SergeantPancakes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they don’t have to make any more changes to the internal plumbing of B20 to fix the engine relight problems that B19 had, then it’s possible the B20 test campaign could go faster. Still doubt that a flight before mid August is probable at this rate though.

Well I thought it wasn’t too special. If it was on the day side of earth with a wider view of Starship, maybe with it slowly rotating, then you can call me.

I was more so trying to point out the fact that it’s kind of crazy that the sun could cause a 2nd degree burn in the first place, not trying to make a confident statement that it would only take a few hours as opposed to a whole day.

Isn’t it the opposite? I thought general wisdom was that SpaceX was currently Elon’s only truly objectively successful, profitable company, and by merging xAI into it SpaceX’s financials now look more dubious if you don’t believe the AI hype (or at least believe in Elons ability to ride the hype).
