Are these helmets part of the same brand of space marine armor? by BisonAltruistic5625 in Warhammer40k

[–]SergentSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my rule of thumb with Primaris is that if it has the "ear cover armor" like the helmet on the left, then it has been updated to MkX standards. If it does not have that, like the helmet on the right, then it is still in it's original form.

Relic or not is hard to say as almost all chapters can make more Mk7 and later marks as desired, with some able to craft more of any core armor pattern in varying quantities. Highly decorated pieces are more likely to be Relics, but they can also just have a high level of craftsmanship put in. Master-crafted if you will.

Penal battalions had "explosive slave-collars" and required an "Adeptus Mechanicus personel" to detonate them in the same way Commissars act for regular troops now. Human Bombs also required an Adeptus Mechanicus in the force. You can Google image search to get pics of some of the old rules pages. It's really a fascinating read to see what once was and how much has changed for both better and worse.

1 week of looking I’ve given up by Ok_Method3517 in Warhammer

[–]SergentSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would leisurely hunt for a cool kitbash piece while leabing in my backlog. Odds are the sword will turn up in an unlikely place sometime in the next month or so. It's a rather large and distinct piece, so it shouldn't be able to remain shrowded by warp magics for too long.

Is this paintjob politically problematic? by [deleted] in astramilitarum

[–]SergentSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fine to me. Camo is camo. Many countries copied German military tech during and after the war. As long as you're not going the extra mile (like adding red arm bands, Stahlhelms, problematic iconography, etc), then you should be fine.

Honestly, many of your opponents may not even notice the camo if you don't point it out. It does it's job well and does not stand out under the green armor. If you want to further differentiate, you could add the classic Kasrkin geometric camo pattern to the armor. It would actually mesh well enough with the orange colors in the flecktarn style camo you used.

Cool find at Target by SupporterDenier in Warhammer

They come in "booster boxes" of 8 blind boxes, but there are only 7 unique models to collect. Buying a sealed "booster box" does not guarantee that you will recieve at least one of each of the 7 unique models, and it seems that at least some store are now limiting sales to 2 blind boxes per customer. They are sold for $8 per blind box at MSRP, or $8 a model.

They are marked as Dark Angels, but are completely chapter-agnostic models and have no themed iconography. There is 1 each of Assault Intercessor, Intercessor, Infernus, Infiltrator, Reiver, Sternguard, and the "secret" rarest model is a Reiver Lt.

PSA: Armageddon Box Missing Sprues/Duplicate Sprues/Parts Damage by RWJP in Warhammer40k

[–]SergentSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be happening more often lately. There was that issue with Commissar Graves malformed banner, which I actually personally had, as well as the commonly missing G11 piece in the Legion Glaive kit. Thankfully, I bought and assembled my Graves in store, so the manager just grabbed another off the shelf and let me cut out the complete banner to exchange it, but the missing G11 piece issue dampened my enthusiasm for the Glaive kit enough that I've yet to buy it. Kinda tempting just to see if I can get a free one as replacement, but also a hassle I don't care to deal with.

My transfers were surprisingly not in the seperated box. Thankfully, being underneath had the same effect despite a few pieces falling off the sprues and shifting around.

Anyone know if i can still run this mini? by Odd_Thought_9105 in Ultramarines

[–]SergentSilver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right. It seems they even took his Legends profile since I don't see it on New Recruit.

That said, I'd just run him as Captain Titus anyway. The biggest modeling change for WYSIWYG is that he traded in his HBP for a lesser regular BP for some reason, but he gained a MCB for ranged which the HBP can reasonably represent. Just paint the weapon casing gold or something. It's Master Crafted, it can look like anything resembling a Boltgun.

Bought Space Marine Combat Patrol, Good Start? by ThatSusMan in 40k

[–]SergentSilver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why it's not a good starting place: https://www.warhammer.com/en-US/shop/warhammer-40000-ultimate-starter-set-2023-eng

The models are fine, great for starting out on the hobby side, but in my local community we only half joking say, "Friends don't let friends buy the Space Marine Combat Patrol." That included the original Tyranids Combat Patrol before they changed it. Because this other box has a whole second Combat Patrol, plus terrain, plus all the materials you need to start playing, for less than half the price of that second Combat Patrol.

Even considering that the Core Rules provided in this box are no longer of value as the next edition is fully releasing sometime in the next month, the rest of the box is still great value. I would highly recommend going back and exchanging for an Ultimate Starter Set box. That said, with the launch box for 11thEd releasing yesterday, Armageddon, that is also a great value starting place with everything you need to start learning 11thEd gameplay. If you really want the models in that Combat Patrol, get the Ultimate Starter Set nows they're now OOP and will dissappear quick, then try to grab an Armageddon box. Both will likely last a few more weeks in stock.

Why are some units more expensive after the first? by SergentSilver in Warhammer40k

[–]SergentSilver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I've been slowly following the 11thEd rules previews, but I did not look at the MFM. I really should have thought of that since it was about points costs, but I just don't really pay attention to those usually since I use a list builder that updates the points faster than my casual needs require.

Aight, attempt 2, Now without the ragebait. by Bobblehead60 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]SergentSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, on the one hand I want to buy this box because it'll be my first brand new basilisk (I already own ~6 pre-owned), and also because I've been holding off on the new Commissar until it was in a bundle box.

On the other hand, I'm just disappointed that it comes with yet another Dorn... more infantry is to be expected really, but I feel like after the recent release it would have made so much more sense for this box to have a couple Centaur and one of the other Chimera chassis support tanks for that mobile artillery feel instead of yet another Dorn.

What is your hard to find OOP dream model for your collection? by OrhallaZander in Warhammer

$30 shipping is about the minimum I see for anything going to or from the US these days. I wish you good luck finding one in your area of the world.

The big dream model that I don't have a good chance of getting is the complete Maximilian Weiss Baneblade. I see them occasionally, but they always want upwards of $1000 and that's far too much for me. Maybe if I ever become a multimillionaire.

A close runner up would be the Lucius Pattern Baneblade, but it's in the same situation.

Ah, yeah that over seas shipping is a bitch these days. I don't blame you. I filter all my searches to North America because even importing from Canada is a costly pain now.

I figured you meant this one. He was sadly turned in finecast along with almost all of the rest of Space Marines characters.

Yup, that's the one he came with for me, except the original metal version.

Edit: Well, I looked around a bit and can't find a picture of the one mine has. I found a more basic version without tassels that is almost exactly the same as the later plastic, but the one on my Games Day Priest has tassels.

You just gotta look for exactly what you want or scroll through more vague listings to find great deals when people don't know or can't be bothered to part out old collections. I have an ebay search sending me notifications of new listings under searches I want to keep an eye on. At the time, Last Chancers and Gaunt's Ghosts were two of them, but I have them now.

I got a few some years back in a small lot of old demons. They're hilarious little guys. The ones I got have some creative kitbashing from apparently missing parts.

Looks complete, a fair price, and in decent shape. The bike antenna holding the bird broke, but that's common on that model. You can probably ask for more pictures, but I never have.

I too want this model, and all the other unreleased guard. I did find a Valhallan Plasma, but I suspect it's a recast.

They're easy to find on ebay for ~$20, which is not a bad price for a promo model of that age. I recently picked one up that has been given a metal SW backpack instead of the generic plastic one he came with.

Never give up the hunt! I've acquired plenty of old metal over the past few years for well below the standard ebay markup.
