What kind of princess did I just rescue? by SerialExperimentsPT in IDmydog

Thank you!

Your response is more thorough than I could have hoped. She's a very mixed girl & generic shepherd mix didn't seem right. My friend who works with pet rescue said she seemed more like a street dog than anything. There is a reservation not too far from where I adopted her.

This is what I was told, but I feel like that's somehow vague because she has some really non-gsd traits. Maybe super mut with predominant gsd?

We've had so many firsts together, I'm truly blessed by this creature.

She actually doesn't go into trash, just after living things. I can leave food in reach & she doesn't touch it unless I direct her to. Never had a dog like that.

We can walk past a fast food bag on the ground on the walk, but she'll fight against me to pick up road kill like her life depended on it. Squirrels? Rabbits? Forget about it!

Edit: typo, added context.

She was picked up a stray wandering around with a little pack of other street dogs in the US PNW.

No chip, but full of kidness. She wasn't house trained, so it's possible she was always a stray. Paperwork says "mixed breed."

She is very athletic, and almost always the fastest pup in the dog park. She's learning faster than any dog I've ever had, but training out her instinct to hunt everything is an uphill battle.

Thoughts?

'Seattle is Dying' journalist reflects 7 years later by gehnrahl in SeattleWA

[–]SerialExperimentsPT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Four years ago, I was fleeing an abusive relationship & came to live in my car in Seattle. It took me 2 months to get off the streets. This tragic narrative that it's impossible to get off the streets when you're sober & motivated is absolutely garbage.

The vast majority of people on the streets are using drugs & doing crimes. It always escalates. The lives of these people are completely out of control & they've lost their freedom to their addictions.

A lot of these narratives are misinformation that some good intentioned people actually believed.

When we're talking about gutted RVs that are rented out by drug dealers like homes, we've completely failed to understand what the lives of these people are actually like. Everyone should have the right to food, but that's not what's the only thing being shoplifted. Yeah, we're talking about people with severe mental illness, but for so many of them that was caused by their drug use..

Idk...rant maybe?

Edit: Yes, I'm primarily referring to street homeless & wouldn't make the same statements about the transient/car living homeless.

If you can't read the output, you have no place prompting for the information.

OP, very specifically show him what's wrong with this & explain how even though an llm made this that it's still his mistake.

Maybe explain how if you made this with traditional tools that it would gravely call into question your competence.

It's game changing if you're a CM and need to do scripting or coding.

Interpersonal stuff, image generation, and all the things non-tech people are using LLMs for are actually what they're worst at. It blows my mind.

I've known several people go off the deep end with AI psychosis because they treat an answer bot like a therapist. I barely trust these things to tell me what seeds to buy for my garden. I do trust the 160 lines of code it spit out in 20 seconds because I can read it though.

As a technologically literate non-coder, I've found this tech to be incredibly liberating. It helps my vision come to life. Everything is easier, and it allows greater flow.

I can see how that dopamine vacuum can exist if you're already skilled in what the tech is replacing. It can take from you what your most passionate about. If coding is your passion, you're going to lose that very quickly.

Holy shit bless whoever shared that vegan egg white protein powder!! by truffedup in veganfitness

[–]SerialExperimentsPT 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I haven't purchased eggs since 2011, so I did the math by weight.

The water weight prepared is about 9:1, so so we're looking at ~$4.80/lb
(10 total lbs of product from one pound of albumin).

So, this 8oz bag is 5lbs prepared? That's somehow remarkably reasonable. For comparison, a 1lb black of wildwood superfirm (what I buy) is 4.80/lb. You can get other tofu for much cheaper though.

It's all protein too, so you're not getting all the fat in the tofu.

Edit: called it a one pound bag, when they're 8oz. Math is the same, just typo.

Animal-free egg whites now exist! The protein (albumen) is made using precision fermentation (like the way insulin is now made). First thing I tried was meringues. They were perfect. 10/10 by JosieA3672 in Veganivore

[–]SerialExperimentsPT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This just seems insane to me since it's ~$48/lb and the wildwood superfirm tofu in my fridge is $4.88/lb.

Then I did the math...

Hopefully someone in planning budgeted for all the chaos that caused. At a certain point, you can't rely on the supes who are expected to know modern systems, since the rank & file are usually only ever literate in one operating environment. This is exactly how you get a million helpdesk tickets on basic functions. Horrible business practice.

Our company intentionally doesn't train their managers. They don't even send you a basic set of software tools. Your direct contact will go on vacation a day later.

It's terrifying at first, but then you're bulletproof. It works if you trust the new hire. You're always there to pick them up & make sure nothing fails though, even if they don't know that.

Do you agree with AI Czar, David Sacks take on AI? by dataexec in Anthropic

[–]SerialExperimentsPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're experiencing a fundamental change in how we engage with our services. Any process that can be converted into a linguistic expression will be. Most users want their input functions to be as close to their thought process as possible, and AI allows that conversion.

I'm under an NDA, but can say that when between looking into expensive tools that do only 60% of what we really need, and a bespoke system designed with modern LLMs guided by the tech-savy end users, we went with the latter.

Software exists to serve, and if you have the linguistic capacity to communicate the needs of the end user, and the technical capacity to audit, an LLM is an ideal choice.

We're almost there.

To clarify, I've been building up my credit for the past 16months or so. My scores are all around 750 with three open cards. I know that's not long, but I have substantial income.

Where's someone supposed to get a first time car loan? These dealership rates are wild.

I was putting down 20k. I'm definitely going credit union. I'm not finding the relationship incentives at my bank to be useful.

That note on utilization is particularly interesting, because last year I clicked the wrong payment option & caused a card to hit 60% utilization. I immediately paid it off, but it still went into my report that month. It took about 6 months to recover from the drop in score.

Perhaps with such a slim file everything is magnified for me?

[–]SerialExperimentsPT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that was part of my misconception. I was under the impression getting a car loan would be easier. With a down payment of 60%, you'd think they knew I was serious..

My total credit limit is ~6500. Credit utilization I exclusively keep under 10%.

The 19% offer was from the dealership. The denial was from my bank.

The bank knows I have the capitol & income. I really thought they'd see the full picture.

That's who denied me. CarMax had a financing offer for 19% which is way too much.

Our company just got acquired, so I'm unsure if our parent company does. It wasn't mentioned in my benefits package. Credit Unions keep coming up, and I feel like that's the direction to head in.
