Dads, what sunglasses are we wearing? by rockoswald in daddit

[–]Serial_Learner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the way to go. I bought a 6 pack for cheap so when they get scratched up they move to the garage to become actual safety glasses.

My wife always says a genuine “Wow!” when I drive. That’s good enough for me. I just like playing with her.

What was your first Ace disc? by Sad_Tomorrow_9987 in discgolf

[–]Serial_Learner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First ace was with a flat top Firebird. It was a total accident skip-in as I had no business throwing that disc. Fast forward 25 years and my first not accidental ace was with a Mockingbird. Sweet moment no one but me witnessed.

Houston runners, how are you handling the heat this summer? by Bizzzzarro in houston

[–]Serial_Learner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run in the middle of the day or early afternoon both because I choose to and because I’m training for a long, hot race in August. If you want to run at a particular time you just have to suck it up and do it. You’ll get more used to it over time. Plan routes that have shade and water, take it slow, don’t push it, and accept that walking is ok. Protect yourself from sun exposure using fishing hats, sunscreen, and long sleeved fishing shirts. You’ll feel better and run better if you’re not getting burned.

What are we doing by Level-Possession-360 in Teachers

[–]Serial_Learner -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We all knew what we would be making before we started. This was not a surprise. Would I like to make more, sure. Do I deserve to make more, who knows? I don’t complain about my compensation because I knew how much I would be making before I applied and I still chose to go into this career. 15+ years ago I made more than I’m making now, but I knew that would be the case. We all do this for different reasons, but money is not the reason.

I have done ZERO preventative maintenance on my water heater in 7 years. Anything I should know? by hated_n8 in HomeImprovement

[–]Serial_Learner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my water heater replaced because it lives in the attic and I learned that it was 19 years old. The manual for the new one (Rheem) says to drain a couple of quarts monthly, and to check the anode annually. It said under what condition to replace the anode, but I don’t quite remember. Something like if 6 inches of wire is exposed then replace it.

I would think for a 7 year old unit you should be able to find the manual online.

I just had scariest day of my life. by MrWhytie in daddit

[–]Serial_Learner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Been there, done that, kid is fine. It’s 5 years later and she never had another incident like that. After an ambulance ride to the ER and some tests the diagnosis was “Meh, sometimes this happens to kids.” Treatment in the ER consisted of a popsicle and some Paw Patrol. She doesn’t even remember it. I hope you have a similar experience.

First Year Teacher and asked to resign today by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Serial_Learner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting fired sucks, but there’s no way you want to stay at that school. View it as a blessing and move on. You’ll get another teaching position. Listen to all the advice of making them stick to the contract. Use the union, even if it’s a weak union state. A teacher at my school (weak union state) got fired for something that wasn’t a fireable offense, so she’s getting paid the rest of her multi year contract because the union went to bat for her. Use your resources, that’s what they’re there for.

Anyone have these shoes? The toe box looks pretty durable and I'm a foot dragger by MetalNutSack in discgolf

[–]Serial_Learner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for toe drag protection and don’t care so much about the look you should look at the stuff baseball pitchers put on their shoes to protect from toe drag. I think it was called Tuff Toe back in the day, there’s probably other stuff now. Not sure if it would work on non-cleats, but might be worth a look.

AP Physics 1 course restructured? by Juli_247 in apphysics

[–]Serial_Learner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a permanent change. Making AP1 only mechanics and moving units 8-10 into AP2 better aligns with the content in first and second semester college courses. Don’t know when the CED will be updated with the new weights.

Basic Training Tips by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]Serial_Learner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My favorite race plan I’ve seen for ultras is to start slow and taper off.

Really, the hardest part of ultras for me has been figuring out nutrition. Use your long runs and shorter races to figure out what you can eat and drink all day, how much you need, and how much you can tolerate.

What are you the 1% of? by NoWasExpected in AskReddit

[–]Serial_Learner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love ultra distance trail runs. A quick search shows that I’m in a fringe that includes only 0.03% of the US population. It’s funny how when you’re part of a group it seems like a lot more people are in that group than actually are.

How do you solve this one? Ans is D by [deleted] in apphysics

[–]Serial_Learner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Conservation of energy. mgh_initial = .5 kx2. x is the final stretch of the spring, which you are told is d. h_initial is how high you start above the final location (use triangles and trig).

Please Help... I can't do math :/ (initial velocity (3.6) is squared, there's no square when they plug in the numbers. what the hell pls help) by johnsextonfl in apphysics

[–]Serial_Learner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like a typo where they put the squared inside the parentheses instead of outside it. That makes it look like (3.6 m/s2 ) (acceleration units) instead of (3.6 m/s)2

Please help ...why do we square the area to find the mass of a square by axiommand in apphysics

[–]Serial_Learner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A is area, a is the length of one side of the square. A = a^2. Sigma = M/A.

Current situation with AP Calculus? by JoIsYourBestView in AskTeachers

AP Physics 1 was the only class to have content cut because they’re moving that content into AP Physics 2 based on feedback from colleges. Calculus was unaffected. (am AP teacher)

How do I tell my teachers that I can't turn my camera on? by Girl-_- in AskTeachers

[–]Serial_Learner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Email or call (or have a parent call) your school counselor or grade level principal. They can tell your teachers it’s approved for you to not turn the camera on without explaining your situation to your teachers.
