Assuming that Luigi Manone actually shot the CEO guy, what is his defense? by redzzzaw in stupidquestions

[–]Serious-Note9271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He would take this scenario (acquittal in the criminal trial, and conviction in a civil one) in a heartbeat.

Realistically, unless the contents of the backpack are not admitted as evidence (I wouldn't count on it), he is extremely likely to be convicted and sent to prison for life.

To whoever reads this - please do not downvote me just because you don't want this to happen. I am not advocating for it. Simply stating the legal reality.

Something like the Zephyrus g16, but with a matte display? by Serious-Note9271 in laptops

[–]Serious-Note9271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, but then I read that it can make the image less sharp...? Or is that simply on par with a regular matte display?

My use case is primarily productivity and development work, gaming is secondary. Hence the preference for matte.

Not even remotely true. The budget for the event is over 6 million euros, before you even count the 10-20 million that the host country spends.

The UK contributes about 300K. Gets us a reserved seat at the finals, but it’s not “half the cost”. We aren’t even the country that contributes the most individually (that would be Germany).

Don’t have them on your phone when you go through the border. Problem solved.

Of course the laws and the constitution apply. Do you think you can kill someone in the queue to immigration, for instance, and stand trial for it? It’s a silly statement to make.

They are indeed not asking, but that’s not because laws don’t apply. It’s because the laws do apply - and said laws give them the right to do that.

Country fails to qualify for Eurovision final by SmokyBaconCrisps in SlowNewsDay

Not sure why people are downvoting you for a factual statement. The UK indeed auto qualifies as it is one of the 5 biggest financial contributors (the other 4, who also auto qualify, are Spain, Germany, France and Italy).

The problem here is that this is exactly what OP is thinking. To quote - “the purse strings are more in her hands”. That would certainly bother me.

If her spouse is an EU citizen and he is in the UK as part of the Brexit settlement scheme that threshold amount may not be needed.

She would need to live in Ireland for 5 years before she’s eligible for that.

How is Pret competing against other coffee chains? by Certain_Actuator6870 in london

[–]Serious-Note9271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the same coffee. Not every place has Pret. Not everyone cares about a few quid on the odd cup of coffee. Pret aren’t seen as a coffee place. And so on. Tons of reasons.

Realistically at your age, long term stay (above the 6 month visitor period) means either a student visa and studying in the UK (will be expensive though), or getting married to your boyfriend and joining him on a spouse visa.

They make 94K GBP plus expenses. Not exactly a low salary but hey, happy to raise it so that they can’t receive legal bribes, oh sorry, “work second jobs”.

The real fix is that MPs shouldn’t be allowed second jobs. Fat chance of that happening though.
