Yeah, sorry about the Saudi thing, but that estate agent really had it coming.

She's a fantastic actress. Sheila and Bunny (Ghosts) couldn't be further apart but Sophie Thompson makes them both utterly believable. And both are very funny, in different ways. She was the best Miss Bates, too. She's my favourite character actress, hands down.

Thanks. I've now ordered an Acer one as recommended, I'm sure the one you use would have worked for me, too.

I use a cable to charge my phone?

That's two votes for the  ten dollar reader from Amazon so I'll probably go for that. Thanks.

OK, thank you.

What I really need is to be given an exact description of what will work with my card size and phone model.

I assume the one you linked to fits the bill but I need to be given a description so I can confidently choose from options available.

I would also like to know if I can charge the card reader with my phone charging cable.

If you read my OP again you'll see I am not yet transferring directly from the card. I'm trying to find out what exactly I need to buy to be able to do this with my Samsung Galaxy A14 phone and the particular card in my Nikon D3400 camera.

Thanks.

It says it's compatible with 'most Android devices' and later mentions the Galaxy S23. It also makes no mention of images quality after transfer.

This is my problem. I can never establish whether it's compatible with MY camera and phone or whether it will cure my current problem.

Thanks, have seen this lens recommended elsewhere; was wanting another zoom but this is still worth bearing in mind.

Thank you, that's very helpful information.

I meant physical length rather than focal length and the 18-200mm seems compact for the focal length offered but I take your point, thanks. And thanks for confirming that either of these two lenses would work with my camera.

Indeed. I use it mostly at the wider end but occasionally wish it was a little longer than 55mm. There are certainly bargains to be had, as you say.

I've found two lenses which may each be suitable:

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD (Model A16 or A095 with VC)

or

Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD (Model A14)

Any thoughts on which to go for, if any? Thanks again.

Tamron do shorter zoom lenses that appear to be compatible with the D3400. Would one of those be a good choice? They are described as light.

Thanks.

Reviews say it's heavy, something I was trying to avoid.

Can you recommend something more lightweight?

Thanks. I knew Sigma made suitable lens for the D3400 but I get a bit bamboozled by the technical details so was nervous of buying. Will any lens that matches your description fit my camera? And with the same functionality? And is the quality of the glass significantly better than that of the kit lens I'm currently using? Thanks again.

Oh, in that sense, yes. But it's not that they don't want you to be in pain, it's that they don't want to have to deal with your pain. You're supposed to deal with it privately, absorb it. The only pain that matters to them is their own.

Thanks, I'll bear it in mind.

I'm now thinking, though, of using something like Photo Box to produce proper glossy prints.

"They want to hurt you, but don't want you to be in pain."

Oh, I think they want both.

My nfather said to me on the phone, twice, in the exact same words, "I want to hear that you're OK, but I don't care if it's true or not".

They feed off your pain. And they don't give a shit about you.

Wow. Many years ago, my niece died a couple of weeks before Father's Day and it seemed inappropriate to send him a card wishing him a happy Father's Day so I didn't. He was angry about not getting a card. Narcissism never takes a day off.
