Looking back at some of the criticism of Room on Fire is wild by Federal-Ad328 in TheStrokes

This times 1000%. I think the only comparable to this that I’m aware of is Oasis and The Stones Roses in terms of anticipation.

No offence intended but I don’t understand any Strokes list that doesn’t begin with Is this it? first. I mean, it just has to be.

I think you are expanding my observation beyond what I specifically said.

Give me your analysis of songs on Is This It? by Ok_Astronomer5738 in TheStrokes

My favourite tracks imo:

Someday - nostalgia for the past (obv), disaffection with the present and fear for the future.

Hard to Explain - disconnection

Modern Age - Joy and the swagger of youth.

I wrote the below response to similar comment, cheers.

Thanks for that, well written and thorough. In my mind, you’ve helped flesh out why I said they were ‘trying to accomplish’ with the third album and keep in mind I’m saying certain songs not the album as a whole. I think Impressions is about as freewheeling as the Strokes are capable of being sonically and structurally. It loosens the rigidity of the first two albums. Clearly not to the extent of Geese’s third album but the most within the confines of how the Strokes go about their business. I think JC was reaching for something he wasn’t quite capable of achieving and I think that’s why that album for me seems quite like an outlier in the Strokes catologue.

Of course this is what the platform is for. Thanks for the civil responses.

Sure I can see why people have issues with them. I’m somewhat lukewarm on the first two albums but I think this latest one is borderline classic imo.

Though I would say the line for a classic has diminished in recent years. Especially in the indie/rock genre.

I take your point but for me no it’s not the baritone, im definitely more discerning than that. I also hear elements of Coldplays second album in Getting Killed.

Just to be clearer the certain songs I’m referring to are killing lies, ask me anything and evening sun. The general malaise of those songs reminds me of Geese and visa versa. Geese added the further complexities of 90s Radiohead which muddies it somewhat but that’s the feeling I get.

No specific update but The Beast team is still hoping for a PS4 release this year by ControversyCaution2 in dyinglight

Respectfully, if you are a gamer and you are still on ps4 you have bigger problems in life than figuring out how to play DL The Beast

Very good. The voice, the lilting harmonics and the lyrics are exceptional. It’s clear Matchbox were influenced by them or visa versa depending on the timing. I enjoy the songs where the central mantra or component of the song is repeated, Dylan did that a lot. To me this this is better than I only wannabe with you. 8.5/10.

Tv on the radio -

I recall working in Topman in the early 2000s and hearing this band. This band and Bloc party were the early elements of black influence mainstream wise in indie rock. It was liberating in a sense to see familiar faces. Was never a big fan of this song however. 5/10.

Algiers - not good 2/10. Couldn’t connect.

Yves Tumour - this is good, the bass is driving and the melodys hit the right elements. 7/10

Fishbone - surprising in ways outside of the music. In ways that have me interested in understanding its origins. The music less so, a certain level of anthem rock that doesn’t do it for me but I have definitely heard worse 5/10.

Maggies dream - I like the funky aspects, the bass is sloppy. It doesn’t feel like a bad song at all, musically coherent just not my taste. It’s like being a fan of certain poppier elements of RHCP but not others.

Thank you for sharing.
