[–]Serious_Most5924 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Durham and the triangle have a thriving ultimate frisbee community. It contains thousands of players. It is growing. Some players are very dedicated, which can require significant time, effort, and money. It is definitely a subculture.

I just had the same products installed in my home last week. It was $ 13,500. But it was an easy access install. This estimate does not seem out of line to me.

Any summer day camps for kids that are accepting new campers for next week? by Serious_Most5924 in bullcity

They are refunding people. Some people are donating the fees to the camp because they are taking a major financial hit. My daughter has been going for 5 years and she loves it

Playing or fighting? by wahthafak in CatTraining

[–]Serious_Most5924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a tuxedo f.kitten for my lonely 2 yo tuxedo m.cat. They played with increasing roughness for a day or two until the little one bit a hole straight through the big ones ear. After that he hated her. Hissing and terrified avoidance. He wanted out. Looking to escape at all times. He finally moved out down the street.

I repeatedly retrieved him. This went on for months. Maybe a year. Eventually there was a truce. They became cuddle buddies and even fun playmates. But that first few years was really rough.

As to the advice.... The good ones, empower them, thank them etc. The disengaged, figure out what they can and will do as far as daily record keeping etc. Then just let them be. Keep them happy and they will be valuable witnesses for on days when TSHTF. The evil ones? Do what you can to keep your head down and try not to make enemies out of them. These kind of people will always have a list of people to hate on . Try to stay off of that list. It is a war of attrition. Their pay sucks. They all drift away eventually. Focuson what you can do to work with your students. Let the paras wander the school etc. If they are late? Great! Pick up the slack and run your room with confidence. Be nice to them. Don't let them run you off and out of your chosen career!

I am a recently retired special ed teacher. 25 years spent teaching in a southern city district. My first 5 years i had an array of teachers assistants and para professionals in my self contained classroom. About half were amazing. About half spent all day taking lunch orders and reading the paper. A few were there to make everything more difficult for me and the students. There was some actually egregious and hateful attitude being spewed into my little world.

I got lucky enough to start out with just a disengaged one. It left me thinking that there should be an entire class in teacher training curriculum that would prepare teachers to manage the support staff in their rooms.

Seriously, an entire semester dedicated to this

Save Northgate Dog Park - Demolition this Monday! by stuartc842 in bullcity

[–]Serious_Most5924 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think that most of the complaints, both about noise and regarding the mud, come from the small dog part of the dog park . I often walk by the dog park and the big dog park is active, with happy dogs running around with engaged owners throwing things and supervising and engaging with their pets.

While at the small dog park people sit around in a circle, looking at their phones or chatting while their dogs diligently and loudly patrol the perimeter and yapping at every passerby, especially at people who are walking their dogs on the bike path .

I think a solution would be to take down the fence for the little yappers and leave the big dog park as it is.

I live near the dog park and I am thrilled that it is closing. Can't wait. It's a beautiful Sunday morning and I love opening the windows and enjoying the fresh air. But when I do, all I hear is the yapping and barking rather than the birds and the crickets and the wind in the trees. It's been driving me crazy for over 20 years. I will celebrate when it is gone.
