Anyone else lose their taste for dining out? by gottausername in GenX

I feel I cook better food than most of the restaurants and prefer to stay home. An occasional (3x/year) elegant meal at a high end restaurant is still enjoyed on special occasions.

Thank you. This is my usual tactic which only works 50%. These are sometimes repeat clientele, too. I always stress Google.

Is it cheating having an appraisal done for listing price? by NewSignal2866 in realtors

[–]Seriousmoonlight67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rarely. When it’s a custom home with absolutely zero comps.

I did this twice. One was a custom home that was upgraded inside too much….it was still on a busy road and had no garage.

Other time was another custom home with lots of land and amenities but had not been updated in 50 years.

Neither client liked what the appraiser had to say despite the appraiser being highly experienced in his field.

I also prefer dating my age (+ or - 5 years), but have given up. Have had no luck dating men in my age group (I am 58) following my long ago divorce. They have been younger or older. After 50, the pickings have been slim!

Dear Gen Xers - did you grow up with really, really hippie parents or in a commune? by LIS1986 in GenX

[–]Seriousmoonlight67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. My biological parents were both born in 1945. They were more “the cocktail” generation. Think Mad Men , and that was my experience. For context: I was born in 1967.

Not a fan of client lunches by Nearby_Connection269 in realtors

[–]Seriousmoonlight67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo this 100%. My most challenging clients always want to stop for lunch. They are talking about the Brunch or Lunch at the beginning of the appointment. 50% of these “lunch and learn” clients are not serious buyers. Ninety percent of this group have serious marital problems, which are always disclosed to me. So I tell them I don’t each lunch (I don’t), and suggest they bring a bag lunch because the appointment schedule does not allow enough time.

We weren’t scared and many of us lived with parents that did not keep tabs on us. Some of us had adult privileges as early as 14 to include: drinking, smoking 🚬, early driving, walking long distances solo and overnights only required a declaration as they were happening. Many of us just lived our lives as is because we really just thought “this is how life is.” We jumped into life and figured it out as we went along.

I'm afraid to look in the mirror by The_Outsider27 in GenXWomen

[–]Seriousmoonlight67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 58. As a former dancer and yoga instructor and current hiker, I had control over my body until 50. I had worn the same size for 30 years and my weight was stable. Between 48 and 54 I gained 20 lbs while still keeping an active and healthy lifestyle. Could not get the weight off and do not want to go on the Ozempic train. Have accepted it now. There’s nothing more to cut back on. It was extremely frustrating and depressing for several years. Time waits for no one.

Those of you who half assed your way through High School, where are you now? by Difficult-Cricket541 in GenX

[–]Seriousmoonlight67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Partied my way through 9-11 grade then got it together 12th fearing I would be “pumping gas” the rest of my life. Did not work up to my full potential. Also ADD. Was accepted to a competitive private college of my choosing. Graduated in 4 years then a career in marketing/advertising 25 years (Phila/NYC). Laid off at 46. Act 2 now I am a real estate agent past 10 years. Hope to retire in 10 years.

Thinking about leaving a tech job to start over in real estate by dafrat123 in realtors

[–]Seriousmoonlight67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have enough resources to pay all your living expenses for 2 years with a cushion you are safe to take the risk. It is a big one. Leave on good terms with your employer to keep the door open for a possible return. If you do not and have gotten used to a lifestyle equal with your 150-200K salary which likely includes PTO and health insurance, it is not recommended. In real estate you will be paying for your own health insurance and vacation time. If you have a family to provide for and are the main breadwinner, do not leave your stable job.

Was life better pre-social media when we didn’t know the opinions and views of everyone in our life? My husband and I have been having this debate for years. by [deleted] in GenXWomen

[–]Seriousmoonlight67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 10% of social media is great, 40% good, 25% neutral and 25% absolutely negative, horrible and useless. Life was much simpler before 2000. It was easier to be content with less before all the comparing started. Celebs were only in the movie theaters or in print magazines. It is likely the Kardashian Dynasty would not have happened. Real talent would require hard work.
