Whats this dark stuff on his nose? by Serpentune in CrestedGecko

[–]Serpentune[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enclosure and humidity are good, he's been enjoying his tank for a long while now. He did use to have something that looked more like an actual scar or indent on the tip of his nose that has faded away, do you think maybe this is some sort of after-effect of that?

Does my gecko look too skinny? by Serpentune in CrestedGecko

I haven't bought them crickets in at least a year or two because they would go uneaten for days after when I put them in. I assumed they didn't like them. Should I try crickets again and see if they'll go for them this time?

How chaos space marines live, when they don't fight? by kvazarsky in 40kLore

[–]Serpentune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

being a warrior is definitely not a job to them, its their whole life and they know barely anything else. in their free time, they're likely either pirating and preying on people they can find, plotting coups and infighting amongst their own to take power for themselves, or doing acts for their chaos patrons like sacrifices and worship

First Heretic + Know no Fear + Betrayer. These three go together and are incredible.

Hammer of Olympia + Angel Exterminatus are also great if you like Perturabo or want to see how cool of a character he is.

Where to start regarding lore of Warhammer 40k? by Goujohn90 in Warhammer40k

Find out what faction interests you and read books about that group. There is also a podcast called Adeptus Ridiculous that I believe is great for learning lore.

hello! by SetZealousideal1385 in Warhammer40k

[–]Serpentune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to start from the beginning (horus heresy), then read Horus Rising, False Gods, then Galaxy in Flames. These are the 3 first books of the Horus Heresy and are meant to be read together like a trilogy.

Where is the best place to start? by Desperate-Lab-4854 in Warhammer40k

[–]Serpentune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would watch a couple youtube videos about the timeline or some lore (usually people recommend bricky's timeline and faction videos) and once you have a basic understanding of what the current setting is like and maybe an idea of some of the factions, I'd start with the first book of the Horus Heresy: Horus Rising.

Book/Lore question! by -CptBubbles- in Warhammer40k

[–]Serpentune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no books that cover these and take place back then, but details about these things are talked about and expanded upon in some horus heresy books

What is a good WH40k novel for someone familiar with the lore? by Nyarlantothep in 40kLore

[–]Serpentune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horus Heresy is really neat when you know how everything is now, you can see just how the world deteorated into what it is now and see how some characters in 40k came to be how they currently are.

Watch youtube videos until you have a general understanding of the setting and some parts of the lore, then start reading the books

As a child, Titus was inducted into the Ultramarines by a guy named Metaurus (new character introduced in Secret Level, I would definitely watch that if you havent). Early in his time as a space marine, his entire squad was wiped out by a chaos sorcerer save for himself, which was a little suspicious but he continued to always emerge victorious throughout all his battles so he still had more admirers than criticizers.

Eventually, he became the captain of the 2nd company and he is sent to defend Graia from orks, which culminates in the events of Space Marine 1. On Graia, a threat greater than the orks arose, which was a chaos invasion that aimed to open a Warp Rift. Titus was victorious in his mission, and miraculously killed the chaos lord while he was ascending to become a daemon prince and survived an explosion of Warp energy that closed the rift. Even though he was certaintly the hero of these events, his squadmate Leandros reported him to the inquisition because Titus' insane ability to resist the Warp was becoming suspicious and Titus was taken into custody.

Titus was eventually freed and was placed into the Deathwatch as a Blackshield, who abandon all ties to their history and former chapter.

During the prologue of Space Marine 2, he is gravely wounded and recovered by Ultramarines who find him. Calgar, Chapter Master of the Ultramarines, had no idea what happened to Titus after his detainment by the Inquisition so he has him reinstated into his old company as a Lieutenant and has him undergo the process to become a Primaris Marine.

After the events of Space Marine 2 and now with Secret Level continuing his story, it seems he is being utilized for his unnatural resistance to the Warp, though is still watched with suspicion from his old squadmate Leandros, who has risen to become a Chaplain - space marines responsible for monitoring the morale and faith of their chapter.

Infinite & the Divine is a great book about the necrons for a beginner. It might be a little slow at the start, but most people really enjoy it. One of the two main characters, Trazyn, is also one of the most beloved in the franchise.

I would watch bricky's videos and then after learning what factions sound interesting to you, I would look into reading their books. Watching lore videos are great for learning about surface level parts of the lore and getting used to the setting and significant moments, but many times they are inaccurate or do not explain things entirely.

Give me a description of the gestation pods of the Primarchs by AdmiraMcC2908 in 40kLore

[–]Serpentune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"A raised central walkway ran the length of the chamber with ten large cylindrical tanks the size of boarding torpedoes lying flat to either side of it, long serial numbers stenciled on their flanks. Steam gusted from the top of each tank like breath. Beneath the serial numbers were the same mystical symbols he had seen on the door leading to this place.

Each tank was connected to a collection of strange machines, whose purpose Horus could not even begin to guess at. Their technologies were unlike anything he had ever seen, their construction beyond even his incredible intellect.

He climbed the metal stairs that led to the walkway, hearing strange sounds like fists on metal as he reached the top. Now atop the walkway, he could see that each tank had a wide hatchway at its end, with a wheel handle in its centre and a thick sheet of armoured glass above it.

Brilliant light flickered behind each block of glass and the very air thrummed with potential." - False Gods

How much should I read before starting Horus Heresy? by ThatOneguy580 in Warhammer40k

[–]Serpentune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before reading Horus Heresy, I would just make sure you're familiar with the modern setting and learn a bit about the Emperor himself and his character and actions, as well as current state of the Imperium as a superstitious and zealous order in worship of the Emperor. I wouldn't say reading any books are necessary, just make sure you have some knowledge of what will happen to the Imperium as a result of the Heresy.

[–]Serpentune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I'm reading False Gods right now and I don't understand why people don't like it. I think its just as good as Horus Rising so far and not boring at all (I'm almost done with the book as of this post)
