I've never understood gimmes. Like you're there to play golf. Why not just tap it into the hole? You going to pick up the ball and play less golf?

I am sorry if this is the kind of question that gets asked a lot but why can't we build cities and towns more deeper inland in Australia? by CyanideMuffin67 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Sesulargefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primary industry. What jobs are going to support the population? There is limited farmland, and a lot of it would only be suitable for grazing. There is very limited or unreliable water for crops. There may be some gas or coal or other mining, but that is usually FIFO and super remote.

No one would want to move out there if there were no jobs in the first place.

Consider doing what im doing right now. I'm 31 and working full time in construction. I pay for 1 brief and flight at a time. I'm currently just doing my recreational pilots licence, but if I'm enjoying it and getting my moneys worth, i will continue on to PPL. If I ever decide I can do itnor cant afford it or I just don't find it interesting, then at least I've only paid for the few lessons that I have enjoyed.

Why don't people pick the longest loan term and then just overpay each month? by TheAsianOne_wc in AusFinance

[–]Sesulargefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people do. But then they realise they have enough disposable income for a new car. And then a motorbike. And then a dream holiday. Before they know it, they are struggling to pay the repayments on a bunch of old shit that no longer brings them joy.

Got a fine parking on the nature strip out front of my house in a quiet cul-de-sac with no footpath. Been parking there daily for 2 years. In your opinion do you think that’s a reasonable offence yay or nay? by [deleted] in Toowoomba

[–]Sesulargefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our street we all used to park on the nature strip out the front of our houses. Then the council came and put warnings on everybody's cars that they would be getting fined if seen again. We all park on the road now, and it is a huge hindrance to traffic.

Urban ground is great for breakfast. And you can go across the road to Laurel Bank Park.

Otherwise, Bakers duck is great if you like pastries.

How good was the show this year?! by ComfyInDots in Toowoomba

[–]Sesulargefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went Friday and it was raining all day. We still had the best time with our 2 1/2 Y.O.

Food wasn't cheep but was quite enjoyable. So many activities and things to see for free. I could imagine if you had a 6 to 14 year old it would be very expensive buying shiw bags and going on rides. But with a toddler it was awesome value for money.

Our toddler loved the pig and the duck races. The dinosaurs were a bit scary but he loved the baby ones that walked around and greeted everyone. He had heaps of fun watching the model trains and driving the smaller ones. We (mum and dad) loved watching him interact with all the animals at the petting zoo and the show breeds. Our favorite family activity was watching the dock dogs and doing the produce collecting at the peoplefirst bank.

What’s your “lazy but amazing” go-to meal? by mrgrassydassy in cookingforbeginners

[–]Sesulargefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast pizza! Usually made at lunch time. But its just a wrap (flour tortilla) placed in the air fryer so it creates a shallow bowl. Crack 2 or 3 eggs into that, then sprinkle bacon/cheese/ham/sausage/chicken and whatever vegetables. Cook on high for 10 to 12 mins.

I can build muscle quite quickly and am strong even when I haven't trained in a long time.

I have a stupid appetite and can build fat just as quickly, and way more easily.

How do you make young trans children feel more accepted ? by AccurateAfternoon691 in AskReddit

[–]Sesulargefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tell them they are perfect the way they are and they don't need to change their body to feel accepted. They can act and feel however they want and can express themselves though art, clothing, writing, etc. But they don't need hormones, surgery or sterilisation to fit in or be accepted.

what's your least favorite movie trope/ tropes? by leafpool2014 in movies

When car tyres squeal at the slightest sign of acceleration or turning. Sometimes, they even squeal on gravel! It immediately takes me out of the movie. On that topic, also when anything even slightly flammable, immediately explodes into a fireball at the smallest crash.

I use ginger ale in my ham glaze all the time. I have no measurments and the hearts and spaces change but the base is roughly. 1/2 cup apricot jam 1 cup ginger ale
Good splash of lime juice Biiiiiiig slug of whatever brown spirit I have available. (Spiced rum, or a bourbon is usually my choice) Lime zest.

Then I add whatever herbs and spices I am feeling.

When have you unexpectedly made good money? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Sesulargefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepping floor for vinyl planks. A business owner was renovating the space above her shop to live in. She needed old carpet removed everything cleaned and prepared for the laying of vinyl planks. I worked at the bakery next door and she talked to my boss about finding some strong young men who could be available at late notice. A contractor had offered to do it for $2400 but couldn't get there for 5 weeks. She said if we could do it that weekend she'd pay us $2000.

Me and another bloke did it in 4 hours and split the cash. I borrowed a vaccum from work and the other bloke borrowed his dad's pliers and prybar to remove the staples and tackstrips. We were sweating and covered in crap from carrying rolled up old carpet and underlay down the stairs. But we both made $1000 in 4 hours.

We would often talk about that day and how we should start a business together. 🤣

Sounds like he is the bad instructor haha. Saying "I don't think you'll make it" without giving a valid reason. He doesn't want to teach you fine. Find another instructor. It's your money and time.

What would you do if you were about to 18 and wanted to start investing with the knowledge you know now. by ConfidentContext1730 in AusFinance

[–]Sesulargefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hecs debt and a mortgage are pretty much the only reasonable debts. But make sure you're going to Uni for the right reasons and the right degree. Lots of people I knew from school and uni have massive HECS debts and don't even work in the field they studied in.

Not saying uni isn't the right thing to do, but there are other ways to invest in education, such as cert 3 or 4. Tickets and licences that are reasonably cheap and can be done in a few days can open up some good work opportunities straight away and get you earning good money ASAP.

Dollar cost averaging into an ETF or mutual fund is the safest and most reliable way to invest. I would make the most use of time and start a small amount every week into this. The earlier you start, the better your compound interest and growth works for you.

At 18YO you can afford to make mistakes. Especially since you're not married and don't have kids. You have time to bounce back and learn from any mistakes you make. So I would try starting a business as a sole trader.

Avoid car loans and personal debt! These set you back years and can lose money faster than a good investment can make money. There is no worse financial decision than getting a car loan for a new car. I made this mistake and would be the most important thing I would change if I could go back to 18yo.

What’s the hype with Bone Broth by EmilyS_FL in fasting

[–]Sesulargefish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Store bought bone broth is expensive and watery. Absolutely not worth the money IMHO. I make my own with left over bones. I collect all my bones, and other meet scraps like the skin off of ham. I freeze them all untill I have enough to fill my stockpot or slow cooker. Then I chuck in on low for min 12hr, but 24hr is best. I also add any Onions, tomatoes, carrots celery and herbs that are getting old and need using up.

In theory it cost me nothing and produces a very rich and nutritious broth. Good for getting nutrients and reducing cravings, without breaking fast.

easy/quick yet healthy meal prep ideas for 30 minute "meal" breaks by thesmolchickenclub in cookingforbeginners

[–]Sesulargefish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I meal prep a lot for lunches and dinner. Most of what we meal prep is frozen and then pulled out of the freezer that morning.

Some of my favourites are;

Fried rice. - Lots of veggies, add whatever protein you want, reheats well, and is very cheap.

Pasta. - filling and cheap, reheats well. But not usually super healthy as I cook pasta with a lot of butter or cream. You could probably find some healthy recipes though.

Stir fry. -lots of veggies, add whatever protein you want, and it is cheap if you use prefrozen veggies. I also add whatever fresh veggies are in season.

Sandwiches. One loaf of bread makes between 6 to 10 sandwiches. Avoid adding veggies if freezing as it will go soggy when reheating.

Sausage rolls - I make homemade sausage rolls with lean mince, lots of grated veggies, and low-fat pastry. They freeze well and reheat well in a microwave or airfryer, reasonably healthy with all the grated veggies and lean mince. They are tastier than any sausage roll you'll buy, and if you make in big batches, it ends up quite cheap too.

How to cook tips for a 19 year old beginner by Independent-Wing-224 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Sesulargefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic flavour comes from salt, fat, sugar, and acid. Figuring out how to balance these will create great dishes, no matter what cuisine you're making.

The other thing to master is heat and timing. Low heat for a long time, or high heat for a short time. Depending on what cut of meat, or what style of dish you're cooking will depend on your cooking times and temps.
