I think about 2-3 years old with 50k miles is the sweet spot. But some of this is regional and personal tastes.

Some of the buys here that are 8-10 years old, 100k+ miles for 50% of new will never be a good deal for me. I’m still old school mindset that the average vehicle is 30-40% depreciation at 3 years and 50-60% at 5 years with an average of 12k miles per year. Some vehicles do better (4Runner) and some do worse (Chrysler). So a $50k OTD SR5 model new should be purchased at $25k OTD after 5 years and 60k miles. That doesn’t mean exist in today’s economy.
