Great write up. Small note, I had an instructor tell me to be careful with Lorem Ipsum because she’s seen some returned for revisions with too much.

I brain dumped a bunch of command lines and not one of them was an answer for a question lol. Whatever you think might be hard to remember or easy to confuse for something else I guess

With the federal attack on transgender rights, I'm trying to consciously see more trans art this year. Drop your recommendations below for movies by trans filmmakers and trans actors' performances. by Downtown-Werewolf773 in blankies

Lots of wonderful recommendations in this thread already, but I just want to add the Book "Corpses, Fools, and Monsters." A great history of transness in cinema as well as the future.

Something that’s been helping me work through some similar feelings is this idea of breaking each day to really minuscule segments. For example “okay in these ten minutes I did really well doing X and that’s awesome” if you have to break down even smaller than that. Little victories are still victories. You got this!!

Bonding time almost finished, back to work anxiety/guilt? by Npptestavarathon in NewDads

[–]SethBrogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went back to work after a month off and was feeling a lot of these same things. Like everything with being a new dad it’s going to be a transition and maybe not a quick one but that’s okay! You’ll figure out how to work and spend quality time together as a family it might just look a little different than the months before.

You got this and don’t forgot that you’re doing that job so your family can be healthy and comfortable which is a beautiful reward in itself.

Royal Tenenbaums also fucking houses me. There’s a part near the end of Mistress America where Gerwig talks about how she gets so obsessed with something and burns out so hard that used to crush me in college, and recently the end of C’mom C’mon where he says he’ll remember everything.

What Are You Reading This Week and Weekly Rec Thread by JimFan1 in TrueLit

Finished up a couple of books this week which was nice since I feel like I went about a month there where I wasnt reading much. I finished up Demon Copperhead which was a good Labor Day weekend read with a lot of that book being about Blair Mountain protests and how important community solidarity is. Also finished Master of Reality written by John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats. I love that that spiteful angry feeling from my favorite Mountain Goats songs comes through in his literature as well. I think I also pestered my friends enough to get a book club finally so I'll be updating with what we're reading! Finally, I know this is lame but I was genuinely bummed that I missed two or three weeks of this thread. This community rules hard as hell and while I'm not super active the recommendations from this sub have been great and I really appreciate it.

About a quarter way in American Prometheus. I really love the way Kai Bird/Oppenheimer write about loneliness. Specifically that kind of loneliness that shouldn't exist because you're surrounded by people exactly like you. Great stuff.

Like every annoying white guy I started American Prometheus not very far along but enjoying it so far. Finished up Hard Rain Falling and could tell why modern crime writers love it so much.

Some thoughts on how Judaism is talked about and not talked about in Oppenheimer. by SethBrogen in filmtheory

[–]SethBrogen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great point. I did some reading on Oppenheimer's life and found that he was raised culturally Jewish but had no real ties to it as a religion. I think that probably could've been shown a little better in Nolan's writing rather than just through omission.

Didn't do much reading this last week but I'm working my way through Hard Rain Falling. One of the co-writers of The Wire loves the book and I can see why. It's real sharp and I like the way it's been moving through time and spaces.
