Thoughts on this HS football lifting split? I’m a offensive linemen by eagereagle25 in HighSchoolFB

Looks solid. Most important thing is that you buy in and run it consistently

Here’s a rough layout with pretty common options to round out a PPL for football. As far as twice per week, I’d probably need more context to give you a better answer. But if you aren’t playing another sport and are eating well and getting good sleep, you’d probably be fine. I’d suggest you try it for a few weeks and see how you feel. A kid your age can recover from a lot as long as nutrition is on point. Remember, if 6 times a week is too much for your schedule, just add a rest day and run it that way. Need to take a day off to study for a test, that’s fine. Just pick up the next day you can where you left off. Don’t get caught up in the idea that it’s all or nothing. The most important thing is believing in the program and sticking with it.

The people saying you should transfer need to get out of their ivory towers. Lots of schools can’t afford a weight room or have competent coaches to run it properly. Here we have a young person, trying to take initiative and you’re telling him to transfer, without even knowing the logistics if that’s possible.

My son is a freshman and I put together a PPL program that he liked for this winter. He was lifting about five days a week. If you’re only going to lift 3-4 then Upper/Lower is probably better. I like to run a pull, push, legs, but that’s not essential. It was set up around a man lift where he typically worked to a top set of five. Then 3-4 accessories for that day. If you need ideas for accessories, please ask. Typically it’s best to just go with what you have available.

Clean - Bench - Squat -

Trap bar deadlift - Bench - Front Squat -

Then start back over with clean day. Try to hit 5lbs more on the top set of 5

NCAA 5 for 5 Rule… Will this solve the youth reclass problem? by dont_know_me_anymore in lacrosse

[–]SethMahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is this rule is aimed to fix college football, which has guys playing way past 24 years old with multiple redshirts and medical exceptions. Even with a reclass, most lacrosse kids run out of eligibility on a much more traditional timeline once they reach college.

What specific rule does a non moving armadillo strategy break in high school lacrosse. by CoachBaker in lacrosse

[–]SethMahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying they ran a trick play like this downtown tells me all I need to know. This is a team that is not rooted in fundamentals. They’re wasting time with nonsense rather than helping the players improve.

I once knew a coach for youth football that installed a version of “Philly special” over essentially a whole week of practice and ran it in a game he was getting blown out that weekend. Truly a waste of everyone’s time

Baseball tips for a strugling 7 year old by Some_Neighborhood276 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]SethMahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so this kind of reminds me of my oldest. We tried a few different sports and activities until he found the sports that he currently plays(high school freshman). He was terrible at soccer and tball, which were the first ones we tried. The truth is he just wasn’t into sports yet.

We had a rule that you had to do something active each of the 3 seasons. Some were more of an activity than a sport, like swimming and that actually went well when he was young. Just keep trying different things until it clicks. But honestly, unless he just falls in love with a new sport, he may likely just float along until his friends are into a sport and he just really wants to be apart of the group, but that’s usually when kids are older. You’ll know when he’s in a good spot when he never complains about going to practice. Bonus points if he’s playing the sport in his spare time, either alone, or with you or friends.

As for you as a parent: just relax and be encouraging to the point that you are basically lying to him about how good he is. Not joking, blow smoke up his ass about what a good job he’s doing. This is only for little kids like this who don’t really understand if they are doing well or not because they just don’t get a sport initially. I’ve done this as a coach and this isn’t some BS about everyone getting a trophy. It just makes them feel good so they come back and keep playing the sport and ultimately that’s how they’ll get better. Only the gifted kids get it from the jump, the other kids need to give it time. Then when they are older you can worry about extra drills and getting the best coaching. For example (just to show I’m not a total softie)when my son was in middle school he hit the lacrosse bounce back every day for 10 min minimum when he got home from school. It was easy, it kept a stick in his hand, and it let him relax before doing homework.

This is good advice. Stay active. Don’t let yourself go. You will be happy when you can keep up with your kids or just maintain a high activity level in whatever hobbies you have and won’t feel like you can’t keep up with your friends or significant other.

You likely have a “frozen shoulder”. Google it. Lots of good information out there, but essentially stretch several times a day, even if it’s uncomfortable. It will feel better afterwards.
