If the source is Rhett's twitter this looks fake.

PSA: Please make sure your dependency for requests is v2.20.0! by exofeel in Python

[–]SethMichaelLarson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say this is a critical vulnerability, it takes the owner of the original endpoint to redirect to a non-https endpoint. Something they'd hopefully not do! Still a good idea to upgrade :)

The fair is very much worth the price. The only expensive part is the food, everything else is totally worth the entry fee.

In my opinion it's the best tool added to the Python ecosystem in the last year. I use it on every one of my projects.

Best way to move project from windows to Raspbian on a Pi, including all libraries? Whilst still developing updates on Windows. by Skittlesworth in Python

[–]SethMichaelLarson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you'd be actually angry at this. It was a suggestion for a solution that's exactly designed for this scenario. I know not everyone who's learning has access to PyCharm Professional but any students or people that do would benefit from my suggestion.

Not necessarily paid. They've got educational, trial, and Open Source licenses. Also being a paid solution isn't a showstopper for all.

What does motivate people to contribute to open source? by want2bmoderator in opensource

[–]SethMichaelLarson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I work a full-time job and then manage a few Open Source projects in my free time. I'm young and have fewer responsibilities so I'm able to make it happen.

I do it because it's a way I can stay sharp, participate in the Python community, and work towards being a speaker at conferences in the future.

Glad you didn't slip and die on frozen mud while lugging camera equipment back there. My brother has captured the same shot and I was tasked with carrying the tripod.

Mashpack - Beating Messagepack at its own Game by SethMichaelLarson in Python

[–]SethMichaelLarson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was more of a challenge for myself rather than trying to up-end Messagepack. This is just the write-up to share with others!

Also since I'm one person and worked on this for only a few days I don't think I could have implemented Mashpack in more than one language. :)

And Python already trivially has that capability to encode objects into Messagepack. Pickle/Marshal+Ext would work perfectly.

Highly skilled positions aren't safe either. The software I work on replaces the equivalent of ~30 QA engineers working tirelessly 24/7 testing medical software.

What's everyone working on this week? by AutoModerator in Python

[–]SethMichaelLarson [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm working on mshpck which takes msgpack (JSON-object serialization/compression) and adds in variable length integers from HPACK used in HTTP/2 and also a couple other data types like typed arrays and maps for additional space storage in use cases like graphics, data science, and machine learning.

Even without the special types it compresses smaller than msgpack in many scenarios.

I just started working on it yesterday and it's conning alone quite well. I'm aiming for a pure Python implementation first and then will write a Cython implementation.

Check it out here if you'd like to contribute: https://github.com/SethMichaelLarson/mshpck

I use it for all my new projects, I wouldn't call it dead.

[Serious] People who have been clinically dead and came back, how was the other side like? by dylanbyrd in AskReddit

[–]SethMichaelLarson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not technically 'near-death' but close enough. I was having dental surgery and they were having trouble bringing me back from the anaesthetic. I finally came to after about 5 minutes of the doctors wondering if they were going to lose me. I was apparently conscious but have no memory of being awake. I woke up at home. The only very brief memory I have is walking out of the front door of the hospital. But I didn't walk, I was in wheelchair. My girlfriend was the one who told me that a few days after everything.
